Welcome to The Bluestocking, the best (perhaps only) online women's pub. Nothing in the food or drink can harm you, everything is served by a very enthusiastic crew of gerbils, and any curious menfolk are welcome at the Staunch Ally down the road.

'AND WHERE IS YOU PENCIL? AND THE PAD?'
Gobbers is having a miserable morning.

Oh Gobbers, where are all your "Be Kind" friends? They might need to join you.

I feel its like a speed awareness course for those caught flouting the rules.

PastaAllaNorma · 19/08/2026 12:09

Ok, apparently my last night forecast for today as dry had been replaced by morning with thunderstorm warnings and torrential rain.

No grass time for guinea pigs today.

Gobbers, I expect the problem is that you misunderstood Pronouns for Personality. Don't feel too bad, goodness knows you aren't alone.

Now do as Gillian says or else she'll drive us all potty later you'll have to sit through it all a second time

RumNotRun · 19/08/2026 13:40

I am definitely not going to be able to carry on with the book as I'll just be picturing Gobbers at the Bluestocking!

EdithStourton · 19/08/2026 14:01

It took almost to the end of lunchtime, but it looks as if Gillian's Special Course was a success.

She had to borrow a frock from Maud as Gobbers had a selection of clothing which Gillian described as 'not even fit for floorcloths'.

The women in the background are sifting through books trying to find a better name than Gobbers. Gobbers herself asked to be called Faeriedust but Gillian vetoed that, along with the clothes. They're going out this afternoon to purchase a toothbrush and other necessities.

They will need an umbrella, however, as it's bucketing down outside the Bluey.

Having toured various threads on MN over lunchtime, I feel that several other people who insist on posting on FWR could do with a spell in Gillian's classroom.

I've followed @Magpiecomplex leaf and got some of the young gerbils, who complained they were bored, to put the washing out. I did tell them there's a ladder in the shed but they prefer to show off their gymnastic skills

A dress AND a hot chocolate. Gillian is spoiling her now.

I had thought the Walrus left the hose turned on and it leaked onto the patio overnight. But then I saw it was wet on the higher level.

Perhaps the water fell from the sky... 🤔

We had sky water too!

Forgotten how lovely the smell of rain-wet dog is. Well, not lovely exactly, but definitely a change from hot sweaty dog.

Yes! I have just realised today that I have been missing the comforting odour of Eau de Damp Dog wafting through the house.

She wouldn't be able to if you'd given her to me to sort out.
I can do bird=> pie. You just need a sharp knife.

You and Fuzzy are very...erm.... direct about turning birds into pie, aren't you?😱
You'll probably get all brisk with me if I manifest any pinko liberal townie tree-hugging squirming about itGrin

Well here's my bird story for today: while I was out in the garden I heard a terrible squawking accompanied by two sea-gulls wheeling and calling. I spotted a wee seagull fledgling [a bit late in the year, but I googled it and they can breed late in the summer] on a neighbour's roof, crying its little heart out - it looked like it was stuck on the roof and was having a crisis of confidence about this 'flying' business...

I presume the two gulls were parents/carers, but what could they do, apart from shouting encouragement and saying 'Watch us, this is how you fly! You can do it! come on little chick!'

The pathetic squawking went on and on until I couldn't take it any more, it was heart-rending, so I gave up on the garden and came indoors.

I looked out a while ago and it was gone, I checked in the neighbour's garden that it wasn't lying injured. Poor little thing, I hope it managed to remember how to fly.
I certainly hope nobody thought 'Ah, that's tonight's dinner sorted'😧

FuzzyPuffling · 19/08/2026 17:13

I've made chicken PIE for tea. Be afraid, Fennella, be very afraid.

FuzzyPuffling · 19/08/2026 17:14

Marie that was Steve and Sharon, persuading young Susie to take a flight. She will be absolutely fine.

do you think Fennella and fennel would work? Perhaps in a bechamel sauce with a nice light puff pastry top?

For a goblin, don’t you be suggesting it on the Baby Names board.

Yes, Steve and his kin really don’t seem very appetising especially when you think about their feeding habits.

Magpiecomplex · 19/08/2026 17:56

First day back at work today. So of course two mozzies spent last night performing a lovely whiny duet in the bedroom. And then it rained for a bit of variety.
I'm sure all the teachers and ex-teachers will nod knowingly when I say that the first unexpected faecal/ventilation system intersection has already made itself known. We might look like we know what we're doing from the outside, but education is a finely tuned balance between winging it and muscle memory. It seems to work.

I feel like there's a theme to those names, but I just can't work out what it is.

I'm sure I'll work it out just as soon as I've gobbled down my tea and set up my Goblin teasmade for the morning. My concentration is not helped by the gobshites in the alley gobbing off at each other. I think they're pissed, as it sounds like gobbledygook to me.
