Midlands Partnership University NHS trust tells trans staff they can use women’s toilets

Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT) told staff on Wednesday that there would be “no immediate changes” to its policies or practices while it awaited further guidance from NHS England.

Patients can access single-sex facilities, including hospital wards, according to their gender identity rather than biological sex, under the Trust’s Trans Inclusion and Single Sex Accommodation policies.

Staff are also allowed to use toilets and showers based on their gender identity.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission’s (EHRC) revised Code came into force on Wednesday, more than a year after the Supreme Court ruled “sex” in equality law means biological sex rather than gender identity.

It says single-sex services must be provided based on biological sex. Transgender people should use facilities intended for their biological sex or separate or mixed-sex alternatives.

An email from MPFT to staff this week said: “We understand this may be a difficult and anxiety-provoking time for our trans, non-binary and gender-diverse colleagues, service users and communities, and we want to reassure you that we stand by you, and remain committed to being an inclusive organisation.”

Bollocks to women who might feel anxious or have a difficult time sharing single sex facilities with men then. It's all about the men and how they feel, as usual.

Grammarnut · 08/08/2026 22:32

They are wide open to being sued because they are breaking the law.

IwantToRetire · 08/08/2026 22:53

We should really be keeping a count of just how many organisations go on and on and on and on about everybody under the sun needing protection and safety, blah blah, blah blah. But - surprise surprise - not one of them even refer to women, let alone women needing safety, or even admitting that women have rights.

So even after decades of women campaigning, when it comes to day to day reality, women just dont exist. Or if they do are so irrelevant people just feel they dont need to even acknowledge their existence.

I would love to say that they should go to the union with this but most have sold their souls to the trans lobby.

The issue is not them being 'trans staff' it's them being MALE staff.

Sorry not to nitpick language and I'm not trying to have a go at you OP, just the rhetoric often used by TRAs.

Yep, more NHS money will be wasted defending the indefensible instead of treating patients.

RedToothBrush · Yesterday 00:07

Well the admission that they know exactly what they are doing and how and why it's unlawful will make it easier for anyone bringing a claim I guess.

Worth noting that this is not what I said. It is the newspaper headline.

And sadly apart from how TRAs talk / write we also have to accept that how the media reports is also a distortion.

Thanks for clarifying. Again, it wasn't meant as an attack on you, or even really the editors. It's on TRAs who claim that they are being denied access because of being trans-identified when the reality is that it is because they are male.

I usually use newspaper own titles because not only is it that their articles can be of interest (for the wrong reasons) but to be aware how their presentation of issues is what the majority of the public takes as being the case.

Not sure if this article has a comment section. I can only access it in its archive version. But is there is a comment option this is where it would be worth the point being made.

Excellent. Transphobia fixes nothing and endangers gnc cis women. It makes trans people targets for vigilantes while doing sweet fa to solve the issue of male violence. Good to see the NHS supporting their minority staff as attacks against them rise.

As for patients: 14 years of Tory government has meant a massive drop in staffed beds which hasn't ever been corrected. Corridor care is normal, with people actually dying undiscovered in A&E.

Mixed wards are a reality due to a horribly overburdened service.

There is no money to implement this transphobic guidance for patients.

Friend of mine is an NHS exec. She says the main issues affecting the hospital's catchment are poverty, chronic illness, DV and modern slavery. No mention of hordes of men eagerly throwing on dresses to gain this magic 'access to women' in toilets, oddly enough.

Suing the NHS will deprive it of cash and make services worse. It will kill people.

Okay, you women. Please resolve, in no particular order, the problems of
poverty
chronic illness
DV
modern slavery
NHS underfunding

and THEN you may be allowed to worry about women's rights.

TIA.

Oh fuck off.

Women at work have the legal right to single sex toilets and changing rooms.

Female patients have the right to have their privacy and safety considered at all times.

This trust can tell men in dresses whatever they like, but they're wrong. How they can push this rubbish, in the wake of the Sandie Peggie and Darlington Nurses cases is a mystery, they absolutely know that it's illegal.

Could you cite any instances in the UK where ‘vigilantes’ have targeted trans identifying men or women? Either as a result of the Supreme Court’s decision, the subsequent EHRC guidance or any of the recent employment tribunal rulings?

Are there even GC ‘vigilante’ groups similar to… oh I don’t know… Bashback? Do actual women like to piss on buildings in ‘protest,’ threaten violence, (including rape and sexual assault), against trans identifying people or gather en masse to violently interrupt ‘trans’ speakers?

Have GC women engaged in lawfare and used the more gullible amongst our police services to harass and intimidate their ‘opponents?’

As for “hordes of men eagerly throwing on dresses to gain this magic 'access to women' in toilets…” at least TRY to make your point in good faith. The direction of travel, UNTIL the SC confirmed what the law had always stated, was that men didn’t need to bother to cross-dress to gain access. They could just tap their heels three times, declare they were ‘trans’ and bully their way in.

So the NHS should follow the law and not make itself a sitting target for legal action.

NHS trusts should be instructed to follow the law or their CEOs be sacked. It is very simple

You want women to ignore the law on single sex spaces because the NHS is understaffed? What other laws should we start ignoring until corridor care is sorted out? Given that telling trans people to use the facilities based on their sex or gender neutral facilities costs precisely £0. I'd say this particular illegal position would be pretty easy to sort out.

In which case, since these hordes of men apparently don't exist, why doesnt the NHS address those issues instead of faffing around pandering to a few men identifying as trans. How about a statement about what they are doing to tackle DV just as a starter?

Good point.

How does TPA justify the amount of money, including legal fees, spent by the NHS and similar bodies in other countries to appease a tiny minority of potential service users, i.e. the tiny % of the population who are transgender?

Even if the NHS was rolling in cash, ' poverty, chronic illness, DV and modern slavery' are more deserving of funding than protecting a very small number of people from the horrific injustice of .... what was the horrific injustice again?
'having to pee in the toilet that corresponds to their biological sex.'
Oh the inhumanity..

Ah, ye olde tactics:

The One Where They Deflect: there are more important issues (than trans-identifying men in women's spaces)

The Faux Concern (or Squirreling): look at all the other issues women should be fighting for

The "It's too expensive to implement"

The "It doesn't mean anything" (we'll do what we want until someone complains)

The "It's too hard to implement" (don't take them to court, we must change hearts and minds first)

Yes, we see you. And, we're keeping track.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · Yesterday 15:13

Mixed wards are a reality due to a horribly overburdened service.

That might have something to do with the many millions of people we've let into the country. The NHS was set up to deliver a health service from cradle to grave for 30 million people not the 67 million we now have. The funding that the NHS trusts get should be spent wisely, and not wasted on fighting to defend the un-defendable in court.

They had single sex toilets and wards up until a couple of years ago and it worked fine, all they have to do is go back to the way they were doing it, when they were doing it right, problem solved.

If they have staff who are delusional then they can be redeployed to the Mental Health service, perhaps they can get the help they need while they're on the job.
