A coffee chain in Canada will be releasing a few Harry Potter themed things like donuts in August and a few people are losing their minds over it, making nicknames like TERF Hortons.

Hello! Waves from secret TERF location in Cardiff. I didn't realise it had shut. I was just thinking I should keep my eyes peeled in case they go on sale at the branch in town.

If I was in Canada I'd definitely be choosing myself a Hufflepuff donut, they look delicious.

For one thing, Canada has gender self-id, this means that a man can go into any women's space like a changing room and simply say he is a woman and he can be there. It doesn't come up in everyday talk perhaps but it's absolutely deep in society. There are men in women's prisons, there was Amy Hamm's case who is a nurse in BC who was disciplined for her remarks on trans stuff, Jordan Peterson was disciplined for remarks about it by the college of psychologists and it was upheld by the court of Ontario, to volunteer for things I am asked my pronouns on the form, there are girls who are uncomfortable with using their bathrooms at school because boys use them (like my niece), there are biological males in women's sports, changing rooms, etc. Also, gender identity is written into our human rights code now, which is it's own big problem.

I am also Canadian, it's everywhere where I am. The only reason it doesn't come up in conversation is because people just accept it and aren't fighting it. It's like they accept it as the truth.

I have to say the logic is on a par with

"Every time you eat a Tim Horton's doughnut, a transperson dies".

As if transpeople are bloody Tinkerbell.

Given that saying "but you haven't changed sex" apparently "erases trans people's existence", they appear to think we're actually Voldemort.

"Transwomen are men = Avada Kedavra"

Given I've seen serious discussions on MN about Ron's background and upbringing...

So yes we are all real life Voldemort because you say we are and you can't prove differently, is definitely a special kind of 'logical' process.

Might not have been because of the trans issue - probably wasn’t. There are places that are actual filming locations for the Harry Potter films that can’t advertise themselves as such - Warner Bros are very strict on copyright and have very expensive lawyers on tap who write nasty letters. If you see a venue advertising itself as “magic/myth” and not using the HP title, it’s almost certainly fear of being sued for copyright violation rather than some cross comments on social media from TRAs.

It was the signs condemning JKR with the Mermaids donations, not just the theme.

For me, this is an example of what happens when a country gives into male demands. The focus of the transgression becomes smaller and smaller to the most inconsequential of actions and events. Where we find ourselves in the ridiculousness of a HP themed donut being the literal death for some.

This example highlights how the event doesn’t matters to TRAs. What do they care about donuts?! The driving motivation for activists lies in the ability to control. Being able to force others to acquiesce explains how the current status quo will never be enough.

The power of being able to control others must be quite intoxicating and they’ll forever be on the lookout to be outraged or offended in order to continue to make demands to force others, primarily women, but also organisations, govts and firms, to bend to their will.

And we must admit, they’ve achieved a lot of power so far.

Maybe they should do a Harriet Potter version too to keep the freaks happy.

It's mainly women supporting the trans movement and driving all the woke bullshit though.

This is not true... i know many men in real life on board with this. but also hear stories of how many gay men push this ideology and we see men in charge of institutions and organizations pushing it, or in charge of countries: previously Joe Biden in America, the prime ministers and party leaders who pushed it in Canada. You can find an endless amount of men pushing this and many women pushing back against. It is true that women's empathy has been weaponized, but it's hardly mainly women, and men in power have rammed it in.

When Canadians see others losing their jobs over this it's hard to fight back. I dont know if there any Canadian politicians prepared to say its gone too far? Billboard Chris is Canadian so there is some opposition.

If I was Canadian I'd be buying a lot of the doughnuts - and I dont eat doughnuts!

I recently read this in the Guardian and it made me think of of JKR. A historian has written a book about how financial independence made women vulnerable to accusations of witchcraft in 17th century. I’m sure that subconsciously a lot of the hate for JKR comes from the fact that she has achieved the ultimate financial independence - not through industry, but from her imagination.

A certain sector of society hates how JKR is richy-rich-rich, made her money herself entirely through her own talent and ploughs a ton of it back into women's causes. Total financial independence = she must be a witch!
