Don't Call Me Queer - The LGB and TQ+ Must Split Campaign

IwantToRetire · Today 17:57

We have long argued that lesbians, gay men and bisexual people have little in common with those who identify as TQ+.

We believe that the forced teaming of same-sex attracted and TQ+ people, through the use of the aggregate term LGBTQ+ suggests, wrongly, that these distinct groups have common objectives. We don’t, and this umbrella term serves both groups badly.

The Government has abandoned its use of the aggregate term BAME (Black and Minority Ethnic) and we call on them to do the same with LGBTQ+.

Same-sex attracted people must have specific representation.

More power to their elbows!

AstonCanKissMyArse · Today 19:22

Sounds sensible! The TQ+ interests are diametrically opposed to the LGB.

Waheymum · Today 19:42

Because LGB are to do with sexuality, right? But then is Pansexual included in the plus, and should that be included with the LGB, or by excluding the T+ are you saying that pansexuality isn't a thing? I'm a straight, cisgender ally (my DH isn't straight), for what it's worth. I like words and language though!

Waheymum · Today 19:47

Also the Q can mean questioning.

IwantToRetire · Today 19:50

All of which is irrelevant.

If you read the campaign material, although would have thought you would be aware of LGB Alliance, it is about SAME SEX attraction.

The campaign objectives are really clear.

It's like asking why you are having a campaign about women, what about men.

Bisexuality wasn't just same sex attraction last time I looked

IwantToRetire · Today 19:56

In which case let me spell out the really obvious point, which is what this forum is about, ie biological sex, not about "gender" or "identity".

Just to repeat I can believe you are that ignorant of the reason why LGB Alliance exists!!!!

OP posts:
EmpressaurusKitty · Today 19:57

Being LGB is about which biological sex you’re attracted to, regardless of whether someone identifies as a gender.

Being T is about what gender you identify as, which is very likely different from your sex.

Two completely different concepts.

If you want to be an ally to LGB people, don’t derail the thread with a load of talk about cisgender & pansexuality.

Under that, I'm part of it, asexual but I'd never call myself that, I just say I'm happily single, or single by choice, and am I queer, No the fuck I'm not, nor do I need trains painted for me, no one has ever asked if I'm in a relationship and having a shag in it because why would they?
It's attention seeking nonsense.

What's particularly great about this campaign is that everyone who wants to "identify" as queer, asexual (or not, if that doesn't feel right) etc can continue to do so. All of that fits really well in the TQ+

I'm straight but I fully support LGB people making a line in the sand. Sexual orientation/attraction is totally different from gender identity. They are two totally different concepts, as has been said above.

If they get muddled up as concepts, someone's sexual orientation can end up being altered by someone else.

For example, I am a woman and I am married to a man. Neither my husband or I have ever had same-sex relationships. If I identify as a man (which is only possible in the TQ+ world) and we stay married, my husband has now become gay or queer (in the TQ+ world). My actions have changed his sexual orientation, in TQ+ terms. Sex, sexual orientation and gender identity have all become an interchangable muddle.

In the LGB world, even if I do identify as a man this hasn't changed my sex. Which means I'm still in a heterosexual relationship.

I'm very happy for TQ+ people to enjoy and celebrate the muddle that results from not worrying about the difference between sex, sexual orientation and the idea that everyone has a gender identity, as long as they aren't impacting anyone who doesn't consent to it. For example, males identifying into lesbianism and expecting lesbian* women to be OK with that is as much a no as males identifying into women's sports and expecting the same accommodation.

*There is no such thing as a lesbian who is attracted to males.

Theeyeballsinthesky · Today 20:26

of course they should split - the Emma corrins of this world for example appropriating the genuine discrimination faced and still facing LGB people because they is queer & non binary and sad they gets called she sometimes except when winning awards where they bravely puts aside their ongoing oppression to accept the awards

trans ppl do face genuine discrimination as well but they are still not the opposite sex and gender identity and sexuality are not the same thing

LGB ppl need their own support
T ppl needs their own support

and the "Q" if it doesn't fit in either of the above needs to grow the fuck up

I’ve always found LBGQT+ such a contradiction. How does homosexuality exist if gender is fluid?

WerewolfOfLoudon · Today 20:32

Waheymum · Today 19:54

Bisexuality wasn't just same sex attraction last time I looked

Being bisexual includes being same sex attracted or you would be heterosexual. The element covered by LGB is the same sex part.

Pansexual is still bisexual. There are only 2 sexes to pan.

It can't.

If gender comes into play, there is no such thing as homosexuality. The gender bit ends up trouncing all over it e.g. lesbian women are expected to be OK with "her penis" because "she" is now a "woman".

In this example, the lesbian woman has been forced to consider herself bisexual, while also gaslighting herself that she remains lesbian because it's transphobic to say no to "women" with willies.

To be clear, if there are queer, lesbian-identified women (in TQ+ speak) who really aren't bothered about "women" with willies, great! This is why separating from LGB makes sense for them too.

It all makes a lot more sense for straight allies like me too, because it's clear what I'm supporting.

Everyone's a winner when LGB and TQ+ split 🌈🥳

I think Bi covers that pretty well

Also if you are female and your DH is male then he's straight. If you are male and he is too, you're both gay.
If you are female and your DH is a transman (so female) you are both gay.
If you are male and your DH is a transman (female) you are both straight.
In no scenario are you straight and he isn't.

Unless it's a lavender marriage I guess. Is that what you meant? But in that case, why would your DH identity as "not straight"?
Or is he not out despite you being an "ally" ?
It's all very confusing. 😕

No-one thinks this.

WallaceinAnderland · Today 20:40

LG is related to same sex attraction and B is related to both sex attraction.

TQ doesn't believe in sex.

So I have no idea why TQ was ever added to LGB. It makes no sense at all.

It’s interesting some people use bisexual/ pan sexual interchangeably so possibly a foot in both camps. There is going to be degree of overlap of people who are same sex attracted and also embrace trans ideaology. That’s ok people are generally belonging to many groups simultaneously.

I do think it makes sense to have a seperate LGB as same sex attraction is not the same as ideaology. Just because some same sex attracted people support the ideaology doesn’t mean it should be lumped together.

Assume husband is bisexual but has married a woman. I'm straight but have had bisexual long term partners, they just happened to be with a woman in that relationship, didn't make them straight.

@Waheymum pansexual is still bisexual if that is why you're questioning it.

IwantToRetire · Today 20:47

I think someone just wants to de-rail.

Doesn't even understand that "pan" is not about biological sex:

Pansexuality is a sexual, romantic, or emotional attraction to people regardless of their gender identity. Often described as being "gender-blind," pansexual individuals are drawn to a person’s qualities and personality rather than their gender. The prefix "pan-" comes from the Greek word for "all"

ie you are wanting to have sex with an idea.

So nothing whatsoever to do with people what are attracted by someone's biological sex.

And yes the Q means nothing other than Queer ie F'ing everything up because it is just so sophisticated to challenge norms.

Thank goodness there are still sane groups based on reality like LGB Alliance.

Just because some same sex attracted people support the [TQ+] ideaology doesn’t mean it should be lumped together.

This ⬆️

"Cishet" allies can continue to support queer people, gay people, pansexual people, bisexual people and so on. It can all remain one glorious fluid mix for anyone who wants it to be. Anything is possible on the TQ+ side of the line. Everyone is who they say they are because only they get to determine their own identity.

Meanwhile, on the LGB side of the line everything stays the same: lesbians are only ever attracted to females, gay men only to males and bisexual people to either (no pansexuality required as there are only 2 sexes).
