Don't Call Me Queer - The LGB and TQ+ Must Split Campaign

IwantToRetire · Yesterday 17:57

We have long argued that lesbians, gay men and bisexual people have little in common with those who identify as TQ+.

We believe that the forced teaming of same-sex attracted and TQ+ people, through the use of the aggregate term LGBTQ+ suggests, wrongly, that these distinct groups have common objectives. We don’t, and this umbrella term serves both groups badly.

The Government has abandoned its use of the aggregate term BAME (Black and Minority Ethnic) and we call on them to do the same with LGBTQ+.

Same-sex attracted people must have specific representation.

Because LGB are to do with sexuality, right? But then is Pansexual included in the plus, and should that be included with the LGB, or by excluding the T+ are you saying that pansexuality isn't a thing? I'm a straight, cisgender ally (my DH isn't straight), for what it's worth. I like words and language though!

Yeah, I’m saying that pansexuality isn’t a thing. Because humans are either attracted to the opposite sex, the same sex, both sexes or neither. We already have words for all of those (heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, asexual). I can’t think of any other possible attractions or lack of that a human can have (apart from obviously paraphilic ones, which I wouldn’t term as sexualities).

So I don’t believe that pansexuality is a thing. But those who do can celebrate it under the TQ+

All power to LGBA, it's about time they split from the Gender Loons, I think the government should do what they ask, they're the representatives of LGB now, not Stonethecrows.

Under that, I'm part of it, asexual but I'd never call myself that, I just say I'm happily single, or single by choice, and am I queer, No the fuck I'm not, nor do I need trains painted for me, no one has ever asked if I'm in a relationship and having a shag in it because why would they?
It's attention seeking nonsense.

I think I may have had a very special teacher at school because sexuality was explained to my class as attraction to same, opposite, both or none. I'm not even as old as dirt for this to be an ancient concept.

Teaching that now would make life for so many young people less of a struggle instead of trying to convince them they are born wrong.

I think Bi covers that pretty well

Also if you are female and your DH is male then he's straight. If you are male and he is too, you're both gay.
If you are female and your DH is a transman (so female) you are both gay.
If you are male and your DH is a transman (female) you are both straight.
In no scenario are you straight and he isn't.

Unless it's a lavender marriage I guess. Is that what you meant? But in that case, why would your DH identity as "not straight"?
Or is he not out despite you being an "ally" ?
It's all very confusing. 😕

The fact that he's married to a woman doesn't change his sexuality from pansexual to heterosexual.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · Yesterday 21:05

You can be pansexual and heterosexual you can also be pansexual and gay or a lesbian or bisexual. Pansexual is about gender not sex so says nothing about their actual sexuality. All it really means is I like you as a person irrespective of how you present.

I'm also a straight LGB Alliance ally - only I'm a woman and don't use the fucking 'cis' word. Do announce your pronouns too?

I’ve always found LBGQT+ such a contradiction. How does homosexuality exist if gender is fluid?

In their eyes, are we all gender fluid then?

I'm not sure that's accurate... Bisexual means attraction to two genders (male and female) whereas pansexual is attraction to all genders (male, female, trans, nonbinary, etc). I don't think you'd bother to say "oh, I'm a pansexual man currently in a relationship with a man... I must be both pansexual and gay" because pansexual already covers homosexual. That's my understanding, anyway. Maybe you're pansexual and can explain it better...

BonfireLady · Yesterday 21:15

Waheymum · Yesterday 21:01

The fact that he's married to a woman doesn't change his sexuality from pansexual to heterosexual.

Very true. Obviously pansexuality only means something in the TQ+ world.

Equally, being married to a woman doesn't change his sexuality from bisexual to heterosexual. I think that's why Elen said I think Bi covers that pretty well

The difference here is that anyone who is bisexual can "identify as" pansexual. In the TQ+ world, anyone can identify however they like. But in legal terms, for the purposes of discrimination protection, they remain bisexual. The law doesn't care about all these different identities. Even the PC of gender reassignment doesn't legally make a male into a female or vice versa.

Waheymum · Yesterday 20:11

All words are made up 😂

If your language of choice is Esperanto. Which is so rarely spoken for the very same reason almost nobody except 15 year olds on social media uses "pansexual".

Nope bisexuality is an attraction to both sexes. Nothing to do with gender at all. Obviously whether a specific person is attracted to someone can be affected by their gender presentation but that has nothing to do with their actual sexuality which is based on sex only.

I make similar jokes about pans every time I hear the word pansexual 😂

Yes it is childish.

I think you are mistaken, and will find that Bisexual means attraction to two sexes (male and female) whereas pansexual is attraction to all genders.

I am a straight man, I am only attracted to women - but I don't particularly care about their gender so I'm apparently pan.

Bit biphobic to announce you are 'het' and then tell everyone that bisexuality doesn't mean what all the bi people think it means 🤔 ie attracted to both sexes, no shits given about gender.

I mean, the clue is in the name: bi sexual. Gender not mentioned.

In that post I specified "male and female" as those two genders. You're allowed to use 'sex' and 'gender' interchangeably within the bounds of the English language. I was not saying "attracted to men and transwomen", don't worry.

There are two sexes. There are three sexual orientations - gay, straight or bi.

these are objective realities.

everything else is fashion and nonsenses

You can use them how you like but it doesn't make you right.

Male and female are sexes not genders.

Male means of the male sex.

Masculine means being like the gender stereotype of a man or having the typical physical characteristics of man.

Female ditto but for women.

What do you mean by pansexual? Is he attracted to other biological men?

Just want to flag up that the LGB Alliance link in the OP is 2 years old. Not that it makes it any less valid as a campaign. LGB ✂T

Yes, in the TQ+ world 'sex' and 'gender' are interchangeable. It's definitely allowed within the bounds of the English language.

In the LGB world, all you need is the word 'sex'.

'Gender' is irrelevant in the LGB world unless it's being used to supersede sex. That's a sleight of hand moment and is very relevant. It's that sleight of hand that has opposite-sex attracted transwomen (males who are attracted to females and who identify as women) demanding that their 'gender' means they are accepted as lesbians.

Assume husband is bisexual but has married a woman. I'm straight but have had bisexual long term partners, they just happened to be with a woman in that relationship, didn't make them straight.

@Waheymum pansexual is still bisexual if that is why you're questioning it.

Yes. Sorry I suppose I was meaning in the context of the relationship. I ended up confusing myself 😳
