Among regular posters, it will probably be considered courteous to avoid discussions that could inadvertently stray into contempt for some of us. I'm not in Scotland either but consider it an "us" situation because there is so much solidarity between us on similar issues.

Makes sense. I feel it's ok to comment on the polycule and the weirdness in general, e.g. posts on the kidney crowdfunder are fair game, but best to stay away from the charges and any motivation for that.

They may be asked for IP addresses and log in details etc. They've said no in the past but if it's prejudicial to a court case I suspect they'd comply, and that would be fair to protect the site as a whole.

Also they've gone through a world of shit allowing us this space when there was really no other space that would allow such discussions, so maybe let's not put them in the firing line on this one.

If he uses "passkeys", which are a kind of cryptographic key or certificate on his computer, to secure his accounts, he mighy have forgotten his password. If he uses a password manager that is protected by a passkey, he might not know his passwords (because the password manager generated and stored them without him even seeing them) and be unable to get into the password manager to retrieve them.

And he can't get into his email to use the reset links, because his email password is in the password manager.

I have no intention of risking the site but am intrigued about the situation. Is MN responsible for what we write? I think the fact that discussions are moderated means that MN are taking responsibility for the content. I'm pretty sure that if there were contentious content that MN would remove it on request as MNHQ are very definitely not free speech absolutists.

It's an interesting one. But given they own the content to the extent that they can choose to put it on Facebook, or allow to newspapers etc, they'd have to own it if it came to court cases. Once you type it out It's theirs, as I understand it. So they could be in the shit. And moderation seems to act on report, I.e. retroactive not proactive, so things might not be deleted because they don't see them if they're not reported.

MN would delete this thread. And then delete any subsequent thread. Nobody would be able to discuss any aspect of HH, not just this alleged court case. And that would piss off a lot of FWR members. Is that your intention?

I think (and I hope this isn't straying too much into speculation) that it's significant the police haven't told us what HH has been charged with, and I think it's been premature of all the free speech warriors to leap in and defend him. No doubt we'll know more in the next week or so.

The charges aren’t made public because it’s up to the PF how to proceed - if it’s a fine or warning or the PF does not proceed then they stay confidential. If it goes to court then the charges become part of the public record.

Thanks. Is it normal to know the charge exists? As if it were to be NFAd, we'd still know it happened in this case, which is what's done the reputational damage to the University of Aberdeen. Do charges normally only become known if it goes to court? Genuinely interested in the system!
