So the 2011 code is revoked on the same day, I’m assuming. It mentions a separate instrument for that.

Theeyeballsinthesky · Yesterday 10:24

Hurrah 💃🏻💃🏻

also laughing that kier & Bridget have left burnham to deal with the fallout

Ereshkigalangcleg · Yesterday 10:25

Yes they really have, haven’t they!

Ereshkigalangcleg · Yesterday 10:26

But perhaps Burnham will remove her education brief and keep her in that role. He can find her something else to go with it.

Find a local service provider you think may not comply

Write them a letter, quoting this code

Inform them of the consequences of non compliance.

Pop the whole thing into ChatGPT to write it for you if you need to

But - DO hold them to account, we're going to have to force compliance in this, they won't all go quietly.

Oh yes! I'm sure if they were wavering, the plotting fir over a year by burnham and his allies coming to light will definitely have focused their minds

MrsOvertonsWindow · Yesterday 10:32

Worth asking organisations (and delusional politicians) what other laws they're proposing to ignore? Employment law? Sexual offences law? Parking / driving legislation?
I'm sure they'll be swift to reveal their thinking.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · Yesterday 10:36

I'd say great 🥳, but we know damn well the zombie army are not going to use it, it'll take more threats of legal action to get them to, reluctantly, begrudgingly, and with absolute bad grace comply. 😤

In accordance with section 14(9)(b) of the 2006 Act, the Secretary of State consulted the Scottish and Welsh Ministers before making this Order.

Interesting, I wonder what Welsh Minister said, given that the Senedd are tripping on KoolAid.

Good. But yes, I agree, there will be a lot more court cases and a lot more grief for women before it’s implemented

PeppyHam · Yesterday 11:14

All good, but I wish the official term wasn't "coming into force".

The phrase suggests that the guidance is legislation, rather than an explanation of the existing law.

"Officially published" would avoid giving ammunition to these who seek to misrepresent the nature of the guidance.

BridgetYourFortyDaysAreUp · Yesterday 11:39

Good. Bring it on. (and about bloody time, Bridge)

Let the tantrums commence.

Cailleach1 · Yesterday 11:47

The law is in force now though, isn’t it? And has always been the law.

So, I suppose if someone has a case, it doesn’t have to wait for guidance on the current law.

The code isn’t going to change anything. Dr Stephenson said she isn’t expecting spaces to be policed, and trans people have been using these spaces for decades so that isn’t going to change.

It absolutely is going to change things because women now have a code of practice which says women's spaces are for women and we will have the power to complain to service providers if, for example, toilets marked 'women' 'female' or 'ladies' have a man in them.

EmpressaurusKitty · Yesterday 12:11

Heaven forbid transpeople should obey the law without being forced to.

I suspect that you are right, sadly. What I'd like to see is judges ruling quickly for the affected women and telling the councils / gyms etc:

"You were breaking the law, you chose wilfully to break the law, why is that?" and awarding the maximum costs and damages, even when they protest that they don't think it should be the law; after all, burglars don't have that option, do they?

Obanotters · Yesterday 12:12

Does that include the false statement that you can’t ask someone’s sex and that it counts as sensitive data?

That's quite right people don't have to police spaces etc and businesses don't have to change the way they operate.

However, it is now far clearer where businesses etc are in breach of the law. Generally businesses are risk adverse so if it is pointed out to them that they are in breach of the guidelines and leaving themselves open to expensive discrimination claims then it is likely they will put things in place to minimise those risks.

This is offensive! It should come into force right now! There should be no wait.

Well the spaces absolutely will be policed and I know women will be holding these companies to account and calling the police on the males. So it certainly does change everything. And no, male people have not been 'using these spaces for decades', because until the last 10 years, they were charged with indecent exposure and sexual voyeurism and exposure offences whenever they entered a female space.

You're right, the delay is just despicable. We should not be here in the first place.

Bloody far left.

Ereshkigalangcleg · Yesterday 12:25

Goodness, how could the police turn up at Hampstead Ponds when Man Friday tried to use the men’s pond then?

Keeptoiletssafe · Yesterday 12:25

Hopefully there’s going to be a lot of schools doing building works on their toilets over the holidays.

The law is already in force. It’s up to organisations whether they want to follow it, but it might prove expensive if they don’t.

That is such an absolute fiction. Find me one case of a trans woman being prosecuted for just using the women’s toilet.
