He's obscure and very local, so I'll leave him un-named. We're at the start of a couple of weeks of pilgrimages to wells and mountains, and picnics and horse races on beaches, in wha has been describes as 'the Festival of Lughnasa', late summer/early harvestide customs.

DSD has been turned down for PIP on every ground, even though she is a danger in the kitchen and can’t cook a simple meal.

I am so angry.

But also if the Walrus and I were dead she wouldn’t survive a year.

So worrying. Can she appeal?

That must be so frustrating, Myrtle, especially as you have to jump through hoops just to apply!

The job centre said she should apply, and it took a long time to get her to do it. So it’s galling that they allocated her 0 points for everything. It’s like disabled people should get by on ready meals.

She can have a mandatory reassembly. We had the face to face interview on the 9 July and the nurse submitted his report that day. The letter was dated the 15 July which is about 3-4 working days turn around when they said 4-8 weeks.

I never believed the quota argument as an explanation for refusal, but we were all so shocked she wasn’t allocated any points at all. I wonder now if there is a quota.

DH is well off pension age and already has the fallen arches. And keeps moaning about his knees. But won't wear inserts in his everyday shoes. It's as if he thinks there is no connection.

My arches... so far so good. My father kept his into his 70s, so I live in hope.

But my eyesight is crap. I could have a very deluxe holiday on the ££££ I have shelled out on glasses and contacts over the years.

Oh thank you. We don’t have a faith but Mr Hussy’s mother most definitely does so that’s very welcome.

From what I can tell, the system lacks all transparency. Nobody seems to understand how the hell it works.

Thank you for the prayers @DeanElderberry - I’m not religious but I think good wishes cast into the ether are always a good thing.

The system is really tightening up on PIP. My DS1 had it for a while but I guess they thought his autism had got better and cancelled it. However it’s true to say that for the last year since he’s been in his current job he’s been ok without it and I haven’t had to supplement him. Your DSD sounds less capable though.

My other excitement yesterday before holy well calm was going to the cash machine and realising I couldn't find my card (got money out with my other card, phew), rummaged though my shopping bags, no luck. Did my Lidl shopping, went home, looked round the kitchen, nada.

Checked (there is something to this phone banking nonsense after all) and saw that it hadn't been used since I went to Aldi on Thursday.

Drove back to Aldi and asked - and YES! I'd left it in the machine. I usually use cash for various reasons and have got out of the routine.

I increasingly prefer Aldi for most stuff and for the absence of attempts to make me use tracking apps, but Lidl do better cat litter.

So relieved not to have to deal with the card cancellation crap.

Thank goodness about your card, Deano! I've done similar a couple of times, and each time I've been amazed that I've gotten it back.

Much cooler this morning, almost chilly, and I think it's supposed to reach only 24C today. Remember when that was an extraordinary temperature for July?? 😮

The two weather forecasts I’ve just looked at predict 24°C or 28°C here, but it feels very hot already.

I work in Celsius/Centigrade because that’s all we seem to be offered nowadays, but I’ve just tried converting to Fahrenheit. 28°C is 82.4°F.
Anything over 80°F used to make headlines, if I remember my childhood correctly.

DH told me that two sets of degrees C were easily reversible to get F. 28C is 82F and 04C is 40F. I was getting used to C before I came to the USA in 2002, but sadly I’ve lost the intrinsic feel for what a temperature number in C means as they only use F over here. I’ve more or less kept the concept of grams and litres and centimetres but the need to use them is quite rare, and American pints and gallons are not the same as Imperial pints and gallons so that’s been a learning curve too.
