Well done with the due diligence, @MyrtleLion ! It's a shame, but sounds like you missed a bullet there.

Sorry it's late, just catching up.

DeanElderberry · 05/07/2026 09:09

So: I was on the orbitting ship and there'd been a boarding attack and two of our people were unconscious but it was all going according to our cunning plan and protocol said I should go on ahead to Canada and attend the conference so I did that but after registering I had to catch a bus into town so I set out to do that but missed one and decided to walk along a dark roadside footpath to catch the next one which seemed like a bad idea but it was okay the bus came and other people got on too and a fellow passenger told me the fare was 3.50 and then the alarm clock went off.

Commas? You'll be asking for some of those AI long dashes next.

Morning all.

I have been known to include "this is all one sentence!" in my marking comments.

"this was all one experience"

I fear that waking up was a break in the agreed protocol, I hope they're all okay.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/07/2026 10:20

A stream of unconsciousness?
Morning all.

MyrtleLion · 05/07/2026 10:21

I was exhausted and went to bed at 9.45pm.

Then woke up at midnight. I fell asleep at 2.50am and woke up at 5am.

So much for the long sleep I was anticipating.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/07/2026 10:24

I don’t usually remember my dreams but the tail end of this mornings featured various of the people I’d met again at the big celebration/reunion I attended a few weeks ago, except we were (despite being adults) all sixth formers and one of the teachers - who for some reason was standing on on leg - was the one from the first series of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder which we watched fairly recently.

Morning All,

Just thought I'd give this thread a boost for anyone who hasn't seen it. It refers to a book/diary written by a MN-er. There were some doubts at first as to whether it was genuine, but it has proved to be so and several of the posters from the tribunal threads whose views I have come to trust, have recommended it.

Hoping to get some advice here. Mumsnet admin - please don’t delete as am not posting link or details! I have 5-10 PR copies of my new non fiction TE...

A grey morning here, but dry so I've got washing on the line and watered the poly tunnel.

Off to an outdoor concert with MrPasta and my best mate later.

EdithStourton · 05/07/2026 10:36

I don't dream as much as I used to. Which is a pity, as they were a lot of fun.

Stuffy and cloudy here today. We saw two hares on our morning walk (well, I did, the undergrowth got in the way for B&B). There were several yellowhammers complaining about their last meal ('Littlebitofbreadandno cheeeeeeese!') and some very pink bindweed (aka bellbine in East Anglian) in flower. It's a shame it's such a nuisance in the garden as it's very pretty.

So much for the long sleep I was anticipating.

That was me the night before and I was shattered all day yesterday in consequence (not helpful when dealing with freezer-related disruption), Last night I was asleep shortly after 9.00pm, awake for less than an hour some time after 3.30 and fast asleep and on an important mission when the alarm clock went off at 6.15.

Must return to freezer fray.

I used to keep pencil and paper beside the bed so I could record my dreams as soon as I woke before I lost bits of them. Must start doing that again. They can be entertaining, and occasionally enlightening.

ShinyBlueTractor · 05/07/2026 11:11

Sometimes my dreams are annoyingly straight-down-the-line - like, last night, we were all in a hurry to get from A to B so I had to FLY THE PLANE but I didn't know how! And even when that seemed to be going ok I was worrying about how I would LAND THE PLANE!!
Plane was full of colleagues and family relying on me and so on 🙄

Crashingly obvious metaphor 2/10 DO BETTER SUBCONSCIOUS

ErrolTheDragon · 05/07/2026 11:14

I just caught the end of Desert Island Discs; the castaway was Liz Morris who is a leading glaciologist. She said how nice it was on her last trip to the Antarctic to walk into the bar and find it being propped up by a group of middle aged women. Smile

I had something very similar earlier this year. Team had to do something VERY IMPORTANT. While I was trying to work out what was going on, rest of team got on with it, achieved VERY IMPORTANT THING without any input from me. Bearing in mind I was only a few months into my current job at the time, the metaphor was absolutely blindingly obvious!

MarieDeGournay · 05/07/2026 11:32

Dreams -
Edith, I've heard that we always dream but we just don't always remember them, so maybe you're still dreaming but forgetting them.

In some cases, forgetting them would be good - like poor Tractor having to land a plane!

I've thought about noting them down too, Deano, but I find that I remember the really significant ones, and the others are usually just 'busy', not dramatic about flying planes or sailing ships to Canada - e.g in a recent one I was walking from one end of the town centre of Dun Laoghaire to the other end for no apparent reason, though there was something about finding a new coffee shop I'd heard about.
I suppose that could be because these days I could not walk from one end of Dun Laoghaire to the next, so maybe I was reliving my more able-bodied days in my dreams.

One thing I am 100% sure of: my dreams always take place in towns and cities.
I'm guessing that's because it's where you interact a lot with other people, and that must be something that my mind is always working on, unconsciously and consciously. And they usually involve public transport [like Deano's bus] which I suppose is coping and finding ways to get on with things in a practical way.

The image of walking into a bar in the Antarctic was 🙃enough, but finding the bar propped up by middle aged women was 😀,Errol!
Tough material for a joke, eh? 'Glaciologist walks into bar...'
I suppose the punch line has to be the barman asking 'Ice?', it's the bit in between that needs work😁

My best bus plus subconscious being unsubtle was the dream where I was travelling on one with my father (then very frail) and when it stopped, rather than getting off, he went down the stairs (of a single decker) and when the bus drove off he'd disappeared!

Lol!
Yeah it's like - don't waste my time with this extremely obvious dream😛

DauntlessDamson · 05/07/2026 11:47

Like Errol, I don't usually remember my dreams, but reading about some of these I can't help thinking someone ought to be having a word with the dream gerbils to send out some better dreams!

AngleofRepose · 05/07/2026 12:12

Afternoon, everyone (just)! It's really humid today, muggy and warm. The heat is building (yay - not.)

I never have any dreams anymore (or, of course I do, but I never remember them), but the ones I used to have were always worry dreams about leaving luggage or something else important on a train. And one recurring dream about something very upsetting happening to my cat (too upsetting to go into detail). So I am glad I no longer remember my dreams.

@MarieDeGournay I think it's sounds like a very funny joke, if we could put it all together!

Q- if I talk to the very tame male blackbird when he comes to investigate what I am digging up, or to the ridiculously tame robin who sits on my gardening fork (while I'm using it!), does that make me a bit mad?

DeanElderberry · 05/07/2026 12:15

No of course not! I talk to random creatures all the time and I'm eminently sane.

YES I AM

😀Good! Not just not just me, then. How many times does one have to say "That is not a good place to sit, robin, I'm digging here!" to a robin, anyway?

Chickadeeinme · 05/07/2026 12:19

I rarely remember mine. But my sleep is generally not as good as I’d like it to be - I seem to wake up about every two hours.

I had a phase over the past couple of years just like that, but thankfully it seems to have gone for now.. Happy Belated 4th of July, BTW! (I forgot again, but it was also the 250th centennial- I remember the bicentennial year vividly!)

The day after a works do where I inadvertently drank a rather stronger lager than I was used to, one of my colleagues said "You were well drunk last night, you were talking to the dog in the car all the way home" (we'd had a lift).

I had to point out that I talked to animals all the time, that proved nothing. What did show that I was drunk was that I hadn't been able to find my way out of a building I'd worked in for eight years.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/07/2026 12:25

It’s rude not to talk to robins etc.
