Is being trans a 'disease'/mental health issue?

I'm asking on this board for deliberate considered responses so please do share your thoughts.

A lady on a local group has described being trans as a mental illness that should be treated with compassion not pandered to because it's a disease.

Looking into it more deeply I believe she's wrong and there is no current diagnostic manual that agrees with her take.

What do you think?

Bodily presentation is an expression of an internal sense of gender an example is when a cis woman wants to enlarge her breasts as an inclination towards feminine expression or a cis man increases his muscular physique via steroids or weights.

Not necessarily, it may be aesthetics, you don't know.

According to you:

Gender refers to the socially constructed categories of behaviours, expressions, and identities of girls, women, boys, men, and gender-diverse people.

You can't have an internal sense of socially constructed categories of behaviours, expressions and identities. Either it's internal or it's external; it can't be both.

But what about non binary? Are they not helpful to your cause any more?

And if I say I don't, I don't, isn't that how it works?

my question on this

if it rains it is still raining even if you think or say its sunny

if the water is cold and you say its hot but its cold to everyone else

then how can you say your non binary when everyone else knows your body is either one design or another ?

Well no, only some of them are, for historical reasons.

Others are called cults.

There are plenty of people who believe mad things which are neither respected with social, nor legal legitimacy.

Except trans identification isn't assessed as 'mad' by global psychological associations but the purely rational phenomena of gender non conformity.

As opposed to those sky fairy religions that are accepted.

i like the Socrates method of asking qestions because then it helps me understand more about this topic especially given how sensitive it is.

Yes, I think she's extremely wrong. This is a really unpleasant view/attitude. Offensive in fact.

Cis is deeply offensive to me. To suggest I am a subset of the category woman is incorrect. I don't expect you to care but I want you to know this is the case.

I'm sorry if facts offend you but the existence of gender non conformity can hardly be disputed.

thank you, personally im in favour of humans equiped with machines its just puzzling

my question for anyone

if anyone can explain how can you take a human body born male or female, and reskin it and then suddenly its the oposite of its design, even when all the inside parts are still the original design

if anyone can explain how can you take a human body born male or female, and reskin it and then suddenly its the oposite of its design, even when all the inside parts are still the original design

Indeed, you can't. It's nonsense.

My body is in no way more male than before I transitioned. It's just a modified female body. It will always be nothing else than a modified female body. How could it ever be anything else??

Baileyonice · Yesterday 00:40

What on earth does that mean apart from conforming to stereotypes?

Typical (common) behaviours to a sex isn't the same as stereotypical (expectations) behaviours.

"Sky fairy religions" can fall out of favour, just like psychological theories, don't you think?

Or do we still believe in the wandering womb?

What does that have to do with big tits?

Well exactly. It's a pointless concept. I'm just me, non binary makes no sense. I'm wearing a pink t shirt, but it's round necked not v necked which according to the Giggle v Tickle case in Australia makes me a man, and I'm going to watch the football in a bit. I must be confused.

Oh wait, I'm not as my biology informs my existence, not some random stereotypes.

There's a massive amount of self-indulgence in the gender identity world, which would be fine if it didn't impact on others and only looked inwards, but it doesn't. At the moment. Sense is slowly returning to the world.

Facts are male and female. Gender non-conformity doesn't alter that. I'm all for gender non-conformity but that doesn't make anyone be a subset of their sex class. Woman is an adult human female. No man can ever be a type of woman.

Plato writing about Socrates.

murasaki · Yesterday 00:44

As in it's Plato's texts about Socrates that we have. His Crito made Socrates out to be a massive manipulative pain, mind.

You can choose which ever one you 'identify' relate to most.
But there are only three choices so you must have one.

I think it’s like being gay, you just are, my dh’s nephew knew he felt differently as a little girl, didn’t know what it was then, long before the current “trend” and transitioned 15 years ago

She’s still a woman. Nothing will ever alter that reality.

Refusing that reality is a mental health issue and should be acknowledged as such not encouraged.

nature in the natural process without any thinking just 2 humans make at it like bunnies

they create 2 types of humans

one with internal organs that are designed to make babies

and one type of human with a rhythm stick so to speak that plants the seeds

how or why and can anyone explain to me where society when down the rabbit hole of alice in wonderland please ?

Baileyonice · Yesterday 00:47

noblegiraffe · Yesterday 00:34

So a woman who doesn't have big tits and no desire to enlarge them is gender non-conforming?

It's a 'internal sense' of gender so its upto the individual's self perception, values & beliefs of how they perceive themselves.

i think my basic understanding was he used the questioning method to try to convice others the facallicy of their points and thats as far as i got.

Yes that's right. The text i mentioned was irrelevant to that, sort of, but enraged me so much I got distracted! I had it for a level Greek and by the end I wanted to put the hemlock down his throat myself.

Good strategy re getting people to think through their positions though. But documented by Plato.
