Legal Gengar v Stephanie Hayden - Criminal Case - Nick Wallis live tweeting

Nick Wallis - journalist and he of the Gender Blog is live tweeting the Criminal Case brought by CPS.

Per Nicks blog post:

I am attending R v Matthew Heath, at Stratford Magistrates Court. Heath - known to many on X as Legal Gengar - runs the Grift Watch website. He is charged with the harassment of Stephanie Hayden.

Hayden has already had a pop at Heath through the civil courts, dropped his case and now owes him £35,000. Payment is due this week.

This case is a criminal case and therefore an entirely separate process. The hearing will start with a bad character application by Heath's legal team with the aim of getting the case thrown out.

If the district judge sitting in this case refuses to throw the case out, Heath will stand trial immediately afterwards.

My criminal trial is due to take place at Stratford Magistrates Court, 9:30am on Tuesday 16 June 2026. I would be grateful for any support you are able to give to me during these trying times. It is a one day trial before a District Judge. As a law-ab...

Yes I wondered that too @Distractable

TheyAreLovelyLovelyPeople · 16/06/2026 13:51

I had missed this was happening, thank you.

Good lord at the ineptitude.

MoistVonL · 16/06/2026 13:57

Are the CPS incompetent or are they so captured they think the defence will fail because of Having Bad Thoughts?

Maybe both? And they've already listened to Hayden, since he made the complaint which led to the prosecution. And ignored the defence.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 16/06/2026 14:06

I don't understand how Hayden can take him through civil and criminal - I thought it was one or the other?

Distractable · 16/06/2026 14:09

Trial not stayed. Boo.

Distractable · 16/06/2026 14:15

But the Bad Character application is accepted by the Prosecution? Does anyone know what that means?

I suspect a mixture of incompetence and various individuals running a mile from this case, a very poisoned chalice

Judge has asked for an in house prosecutor now. Someone will have to take it!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/06/2026 14:23

What’s the significance of an in house prosecutor?

Distractable · 16/06/2026 14:15

I think it means that they have conceded that the complainant's past behaviour is relevant and so can be brought into evidence. In which case, maybe (??) the in house prosecutor will review the case and decide it should be dropped before September. I wonder if the J is hoping so

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/06/2026 14:29

I think there’s a non zero chance of that.

I think ithe idea is to stop them hiring some random barrister on the day so that they can escape a bollocking. J knows it's not SPs fault and that she has little idea what the case is about. Someone from CPS London will have to turn up and face the music/salvage the case so it looks respectable by then, a very brilliant person indeed to achieve the latter

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/06/2026 14:32

That’s good. Would love to see someone from the CPS justify this case.

Wackdemmoles · 16/06/2026 14:32

Then the selection of the in house lawyer will be most interesting. A lot of people go on holiday in September

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/06/2026 14:23

What’s the significance of an in house prosecutor?

I assumed it means that they'll actually pay attention, and send someone who knows the case next time. Today's prosecutor had to ask for time to learn the case history!

Distractable · 16/06/2026 14:36

Hayden is claiming he's unavailable for the new trial date, pushing it back even further. Another holiday perhaps? The abuse continues.

Nope you get both and I think different facts at play in any event.

Maybe its a trans identified birthday - every day that doesn't suit is a birthday for dear Steph.

I have been following the live tweets whilst working 🙈 but they seem to have disappeared and I can only see historical cases. Can someone please direct me where to go? Thanks

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/06/2026 14:53

Think it’s some sort of glitch, you can see them momentarily every time you refresh the page.

Are you not getting the glitch on the tweets for this case? This is the page I and pp are talking about.

CapabilityBrownsHaHa · 16/06/2026 15:12

I had that and did a search. It came up going on chronological order top to bottom. Presumably because it's no longer live.
