Is there less Rainbows Pride marketing shizzle this year?

Fewer? Confused

Just logged on to Sainsbury's and they're a smidge colourful, but iirc in previous years my eyes would have been besieged by Richie York Vainly Battling by this point in June.

Is this trend on its slide down?

Hmm. It's only a small thing, but you prompted me to swipe up on my phone and check my "all the apps" display to see how many have gone rainbow-coloured, and the answer is.... none! I'm sure 5 years ago loads of them changed their icons for the holy month. So that seems like progress?

Theunamedcat · 04/06/2026 18:49

M&s had a bit of bunting nothing massive dont think there is even a rainbow sandwich this year

Yes yes the apps all got colourful in June, didn't they?

Gosh yes they used to have a LGBT sandwich.

I brought up the political nature of the rainbow carrot with Riverford last year, to no avail. It is back. Unfortunately, I like their offer too much to boycott.

waltzingparrot · 04/06/2026 19:21

My Waitrose app has gone all shizzly 🙄

GingerBeverage · 04/06/2026 19:26

Ocado have their flag vans out.

Malariahilaria · 04/06/2026 19:30

Yes waitrose app is rainbowed but I'm not seeing nearly as much. Our place has put up one string of bunting and left a basket of pins for people to wear on their lanyards which hasn't been touched. Hopefully this is the quietning of the madness.

WomanSubjectFucksVerbManObject · 04/06/2026 19:32

"Quitening of the madness"

I love this 💞

The recent confirmation of the law might have made companies think twice. Someone BORN a female is a female, there's no becoming one.

Quercus5 · 04/06/2026 19:49

Nothing on the Tesco app, thank goodness.

singthing · 04/06/2026 19:52

I am seeing less overt posting and rainbow washing, and what there is, is frequently back to the original striped flag. That progress abomination is on the slide for sure. Although I did see one set up that reminded me of that London scene a few years ago that was likened to 3rd Reich-style flagging and it was jarring by its imposition.

(By the by, someone posted on LI that June is also Men's Health Month as well. Till this year I'd had zero awareness of that and would be much happier to support that.)

EnjoythemoneyJane · 04/06/2026 19:59

But it’s still a shame that the LGB pride flag has been co-opted and forever tarnished by a bunch of angry men, in their efforts to overturn women’s rights, and champion the rights of paraphiliac predators.

It’s far less shocking that a load of grasping, immoral, virtue-signalling businesses were quite happy to jump on a bandwagon they thought would pay out long term, and now are quietly shuffling off sideways now the whole thing looks likely to bite them in the arse.

Chersfrozenface · 04/06/2026 21:36

None of the few apps on my phone have changed

The Boots logo on the website has gone all rainbow-y. The ASDA logo on their website is in the "Progress" flag colours - but I'd stopped ordering from them anyway. Ditto the logos in the Sainsbury site, including the Argos logo, but on the actual Argos site it's unchanged. The Tesco site has changed the underlining below the letters in its logo to red yellow, green, blue and purple, so a truncated rainbow. I don't see any difference on the Aldi and Lidl sites. On the Waitrose site the name WAITROSE is in the "Progress" flag colours, as you would expect from the John Lewis Pratnership.

InflagranteDelicto · 04/06/2026 21:50

Just seen my professional regulator has changed their icon to shizzle. That's really disappointing.

Gribouille · 04/06/2026 21:55

The Sainsburys self-scan handsets - which can be changed for Christmas or Hallowe'en or whatever - have got the flag-of-many-colours on at the moment...

musicalfrog · 04/06/2026 21:57

Post Office counters had a poster on the glass this morning. Pride progress background.

🙄

LlynTegid · 04/06/2026 21:59

I wonder if the men's football World Cup starting next week will be more of a marketing focus. Lots of beer to sell.

changingofthenameagain · 04/06/2026 22:12

Is this thread specifically hatred towards the “Progress” flag or is it for the Pride flag in general?

Asking because I don’t venture onto this board very often, this thread somehow popped up.

Hatred? That's a very strong word to use. I suggest you have a read of a few threads in this section to find out why either of those flags can be problematic for women and LGB community.

OP - idk about online but the physical stores seem very muted in their rainbow wares and definitely less bunting hanging down. Pp might have got it right suggesting football tat and beer is more profitable. Although I can't stand that either 😂

Ours is just the usual orange Confused There's a small display of rainbow shizzle for buying by the front door at our store, but the stuff doesn't seem to be shifting.

I don’t have time to do that, and that wasn’t my question. Maybe I wasn’t clear so let me rephrase it a bit.

As a woman I don’t find these flags problematic and I was hoping to understand what the issue with them is, i.e. is Mumsnet still just anti-trans or have people on here moved towards outright homophobia these days.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 04/06/2026 22:44

I miss being able to feel happy and positive about Pride 😢I miss the flag feeling like a symbol of progress rather than something to be wary of.

I try to remember the basic impetus of LGB acceptance and celebration is still a huge part of it even if the noisy pronoun people are currently grabbing all the attention.

It's become for many women a symbol of sexism and repression. It's very very sad.
