Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Honestly, the comics publishing world has been ridiculously woke for years and, as a result, has been losing money and circulation. Like a lot of entertainment/publishing media they've tried to attract the woke audience as a deliberate strategy for growth but that particular market segment is not that big. (Hollywood has discovered this too to their chagrin 🙄)

For some reason, they're circling the wagons and producing more of this daft stuff that only appeals to them and their mates to the point where I'm not sure comics will survive in the future.

Plus there's the increasing growth of interest in Japanese manga (publishing that definitely is NOT woke) that is also contributing to the death of the comics industry.

Seems apt:

Wonderwoman is now WonderTransWoman
Noshowlomo · 01/06/2026 20:01

Meh. It will completely tank

So no longer Wonderwoman - now it's Wonder-if-it's-a-Woman.

🤣

danglethedingle · 01/06/2026 20:19

Is it a Bird? Is it a plane? No! its Autogynephilia-man!

dinodart · Yesterday 02:34

what era does this story exist in? this dude will be able to get all the hormones, the implants, the eunuch surgery?

This is the fictional character that carry's a lasso that compels people to tell the truth, right, what if he gets tangled up in his own rope. 🤣
Are they going to draw 'trans' WW with a six o'clock shadow, a large Adams apple, receding hair line and a HRT patch on his arm. 🤣

Women must have nothing for themselves 😤

I think that’s going to upset a large part of their audience. Especially the men 😂😂😂😂

QuintadosMalvados · Yesterday 07:20

I imagine that Wonderwoman is a sexual fantasy figure for a lot of young men. Well to be honest men like the look of her full stop. No real surprise on that.

Thus she must look like a woman, and not just a woman warts-and-all but an idealised one.
How they're going to take it if Wonderwoman has any male features?

And if WW Is the idealised woman? then how to know she's trans in the comic universe?

Nutty just got nutter.

KnottyAuty · Yesterday 07:42

I love the idea of Trans Hulk or (S)He-Man

I wonder why they decided to re-write WW instead of one of the many many male characters?

Iamnotalemming · Yesterday 08:39

The comments under that nonsense article are brilliant. Made my morning.

SinnerBoy · Yesterday 13:23

Yes, mostly saying what a load of pish it is. This one caught my eye:

A man elbows a woman out of her opportunity?
Can you not see how regressive this is?
Will we be getting a White Panther next?

GingerBeverage · Yesterday 13:35

Don't they do this sort of stunt every year for pride?

Backstory of the co-writer, born male, a twin, with ADHD, and adopted:

TWETMIRF · Yesterday 13:42

I think it's very appropriate. Men see female thing, must take over female thing. It's just gender ideology.

They could have put the effort in to build something from scratch but took what belonged to women instead.

ElenOfTheWays · Yesterday 13:49

So what's next?
Xeno the Warrior Prince?
Buddy the Vampire Slayer?
The Bionic Enby?
Charlene's Angels?
The possibilities are endless

He Man and Hulk both already have female counterparts though

I think She-Hulk is a lawyer. Good luck taking HER identity; she'll rip your head off then sue you 😂

They picked WW because she’s one of maybe 3 iconic female superheroes who also has broad market appeal.

TRAs always take for themselves what little glory women have been allowed to have.

nocoolnamesleft · Yesterday 22:13

Oh for fuck's sake. There are so few strong female superheroes, so they decide to trans one of them away.

This. Take a world women are underrepresented in, take one who's already over-sexualised in costume compared to her male counterparts, and replace her with a man in a sexualised woman outfit.

Going to misfire, because either he looks like a man which is 'transphobic', or he looks like a woman and needs to repeatedly establish he's trans by tedious preachy narrative, which the audience will hate.

DialSquare · Yesterday 23:09

WW’s looks are an AGP dream. I bet my house there will never be a Trans Blunder Woman.

Incidentally, I’ve had the theme tune as a constant ear worm since I posted yesterday!

Yes. It doesn't fit in in terms of how superheroes work, either. They have superpowers. Super strength or x-ray vision or super speed. Sometimes they have been amalgamated with some sort of other creature, not human. The trans human is not of interest in this kind of narrative. Superheroes go through some kind of transformation anyway, often when they first acquire their superpowers, then again when they need to become super to sort out whatever problem in the world needs sorting. They don't need to have already transformed into something in advance, that doesn't make any sense.
There we are! A tedious explanation right there Grin

The trans superhero in the CW Supergirl series never made sense either: that female superhero’s superpowers were explicitly based on being female and were transmitted through the generations from mother to daughter but the CW writers decided that somehow the powers skipped going to his sister and went to him instead because he was also a woman 🤷‍♀️ Oh and they wrote everyone as believing the sister to be a big meanie for being annoyed about it too 🙄

I stopped watching Supergirl that year because it was tedious in the amount of proselytising it did.

Silvertips · 01/06/2026 14:37

I do think the whole superhero franchise thing is really flogging a dead horse at this point. I don't think I've watched any of them in the past 15 years and nor has anyone else I know. I think even the latest star wars film flopped at the box office. I suspect this is a desperate stunt to appeal to a "niche" audience.

It’s a comic not a film. The DC comics remain as popular and collectible as ever.

Ditto. Although I did last long enough to see the sister came to see 'the error of her ways', that's when I switched off in disgust. 😤
