Bloody hell. How to miss the point of Wonder Woman and the Amazons. Though I am pleased that the commentators are having none of it.

FFS. At one level this is trivial. At another, it is yet another demonstration of how much people don't realise that women are real people. [And yes I know WW is a fictious character, so not 'real'.]

How is a cartoon character openly transgender without saying “this is a bloke really”?

I daresay it's the costume that attracted the notion of "Mander Woman" being a thing. Short skirt, small waist, prominent boobs, long hair, shiny headdress. See, it's classic drag getup.

Wonder Woman is supposed to be a powerful woman. Surely the idea of a trans character as a superhero should involve a bit more thought other than "ooh let's make her trans" - that's so lazy. Get your own character and keep your mitts off the women!

However, if you insist Man-Woman must stay, let's have a trans-identifying female taking the place of Hulk (little Hulkie) or Thor (shorter Thor), shall we?

I do think the whole superhero franchise thing is really flogging a dead horse at this point. I don't think I've watched any of them in the past 15 years and nor has anyone else I know. I think even the latest star wars film flopped at the box office. I suspect this is a desperate stunt to appeal to a "niche" audience.

Little girls, no aspirations for you; everything exciting and strong has been grabbed by men, for men.

I'm not too worried about this sort of thing, because the more "trans and drag queens with everything" is pushed, the sooner a lot of people and enterprises will get bored with it and rush off after the next big fad.

Becoming "so last season", will weed out the fashionable element who have jumped on the bandwagon. Then we'll see what we are left with in terms of genuine social need.

In all honesty I think the response from most at this point is an eyeroll, muttered 'fuckssake' and walking away. The issues with overselling has never been something this movement have cottoned onto.
