I have been trying for a long time to get a written policy out of David Lloyds for about a year. they are still refusing to do so.

Anyone got any suggestions? And What other orgs are refusing to do it?

Is this the next trench we have to fight in? Getting the damned thing written down?

Going to bring this back to David Lloyd's sorry everyone - though it is interesting.

Basically I have been given the massive brush off - again - and as the EHRC guidance could well be in effect Friday - I just can't move the damned needle between now and then so I have not.

however

I am going to put them on the list of local places to get the heavy lean and see what they do. I am 90% sure they will just fold with the guidance now

Letter to the local manager:

Dear xxxxx,

I would like to meet with you to discuss how David Lloyd Brighton will comply with the Supreme Court’s judgment on the meaning of sex under the Equality Act 2010, and with the EHRC’s new statutory Code of Practice.

The Code has now completed its 40-day parliamentary scrutiny period and is awaiting the remaining commencement and revocation orders. It is expected to come into force in early August, potentially on or around 4 August 2026.

David Lloyd’s complaints procedure states that I may request a meeting with the club manager and that the club will agree to this. Please therefore suggest a suitable time for us to meet.

My aim is to understand what practical steps the club will take to ensure that its single-sex changing rooms and toilets are properly operated and enforced as single-sex facilities, so that women can be confident they are using a safe, dignified and private environment.

Kind regards,
xxxx xxxx

Letter to the area manager

[email protected] is the email if any of you want to d the same? please do!!

Dear xxxx,
Thank you for your previous correspondence about David Lloyd’s approach to changing rooms and toilets.

The EHRC’s updated statutory Code of Practice has now completed its 40-day parliamentary scrutiny period and is proceeding towards commencement. This removes the uncertainty referred to in your letters of 10 and 15 June.

I would be grateful if you could explain how David Lloyd intends to implement the Supreme Court’s judgment and the new Code across its clubs, particularly in relation to ensuring that facilities described as male or female are properly operated as single-sex facilities.

I would also welcome the opportunity to meet you face to face the next time you visit the Brighton club. Please let me know whether this can be arranged.
Women and girls understandably want confidence that changing rooms and toilets provided for them offer genuine safety, privacy and dignity. This is a mainstream and reasonable expectation. I hope David Lloyd will approach the clarification of the law positively and confidently, and embrace the opportunity to provide members with a clear, consistent and lawful policy.

Kind regards,
xxx xxxx

Would anyone like to read the letter I got from the regional manager?

Well amidst all that waffle I did spot a commitment to separate male and female changing rooms, which will presumably actually be single-sex.

Ultimately they'll have to obey the law. And they won't have the luxury of procrastination if there's a legal time frame for compliance. Especially as they know you're keeping a close eye on the situation.

We have all learned not to trust words any more though right, what sort of females do they mean after all….

AND they are two days out of date, it’s been commenced, which is what My reply email said!
