Birmingham Pride Withdrawal

The UK legal system has become so compromised that an ambulance service showing up at Pride with LGBTQ+ people is now treated as a breach of “political impartiality”.

Public solidarity with LGBTQ+ people has been recast as a partisan act.

We're already 2nd worst score for LGBTQ+ rights out of all of Western Europe (worst for transgender rights) and stuff like this moves the needle further into the red. 😡

Absolutely agree with this, they're the best £10 a month I've ever spent. If you 'd told me back in the day that I'd be donating to a charity to try to undo the incalculable harms inflicted on the lesbian community (I know they look after the GB bits as well, but £10 doesn't go very far and we are the most affected and most skint part of the acronym, on average) by Stonewall I'd have wondered what drugs you were on.

I see OP still hasn't returned. One of these days, someone is going to take a stab at answering The Question.

As a lesbian, even back in the day at pride parades before there was any mention of trans people, I used to roll my eyes at the likes of the ambulance service, the police (who are well-known to have a culture of bigotry in many forces), and big corporations like HSBC, participating in pride parades. It was all for publicity, so fake, and didn’t actually say anything about how inclusive they were or weren’t as an organisation. It was just their PR departments trying to make them look inclusive/welcoming/progressive. I don’t understand why the emergency services have pulled out of Birmingham pride though? Is it because they don’t want to align themselves with trans activism? As that’s what pride is about these days. No one gives a shit about LGB people anymore (which tbf, why should they, the war on gay rights has largely been won in the west). I’m happy for trans people to have pride, we don’t need it anymore, but don’t pretend it’s about LGBTQ people. It’s not, it’s about trans people, so call it what it is - trans pride, or better yet, stick to your own trans pride (of which there are many up and down the country and leave ours alone, or at least don’t try and take it over). It’s a positive step if they are pulling out because they don’t want to align themselves with GI values, finally, an organisation that is being honest about their values and refusing to pander to whatever the latest (and in this case, damaging) new trend in society is. But is that the reason?
