If we were to play safeguarding and ask a difficult question or two, a good one to the DfE among others might be:
'why might it be that transactivists wish so much to access children and provide them with materials etc? At a time when they are separated from their parents and families? And when there is no one else there attached to the child who is providing balanced wider perspective and critical insight into what is being said to them?'
Perhaps with a bit of sharing some of the specific information in some of activist documentation available on line about exactly why they want to tell things to children when they're separated from their families and adults with more life experience and critical thinking/knowledge of how political lobbyists lacking ethics go after their goals, from any balancing input, or anything that might dilute the success of the messaging they want to implant?
Another might be 'how do children benefit from being exposed to political lobbyists in school, where there is a duty of care and adults inviting those lobbyists in - and setting limits on behaviours and responses - are enabling this one sided, uncontested political downloading/influencing to occur? In a place where children trust the adults and the information they are being given?'
How is this in any way ethical? Acceptable? Respectful to the children and their families? Compatible with safeguarding? Is the only boundary 'do the staff quite like the politics of the people they are exposing the children to and think intentionally taking advantage of their position, the children's vulnerability and their families being excluded is a 'good thing'?
'Would we let the Conservatives or Reform pop in with shiny slogans and spend a couple of hours workshopping with our kids to influence them towards voting as those groups would like? Shall we expose the kids to using Conservative or Reform shiny resources that push the messaging and influence and advertising further into normal, accepted 'this is the way to think and act?'
It is quite fantastically fucked up from multiple angles.
