Bluestocking Women’s Pub - it’s Maytime!

Welcome to any women who want the company of women!

Thats it really….ok so this place is staffed by gerbils with the occasional quokka or capybara but it functions like a friendly pub where you don’t have to know what’s going on all the time.
The drinks don’t intoxicate and the food is delicious yet healthy so please do come in.

Interview went well.

I'm normally to the point of remembering some of my answers and cringing but that isn't happening today.

Another stage to go then a recommendation is made followed by a decision.

EmpressaurusKitty · 13/05/2026 17:19

That sounds really hopeful, @MyrtleLion.

AuntieMsDamsonCrumble · 13/05/2026 18:32

That sounds quite positive, fingers crossed for you Myrtle. You can relax in the Bluestocking now and Gertie will be along for your order shortly. Smile

Excellent news!

In "just how stupid am I", eagle-eyed denizens of the Bluey may have noticed that in my list of cookery there was mention of a dinner for ME.
I'm a total dipstick.

I did wonder…do you really have no dinner after all that cooking for others?ShockSad

I've just served myself a slice of the dauphinoise with some peas. I'm not actually all that hungry after all

I am feeling a bit smug - I bought myself a new dress, but had to do some alterations - it didn’t have sleeves, so I’ve taken the sleeves off a t shirt and attached them, and I had to take it up about 3” - all dresses are designed for women who are 5’8” and over, so at 5’4”, I fall over the hems of everything. The dress has been sitting on the side for a week, waiting for me to get round to doing the work, but I did it yesterday, and I’m wearing the dress today, and it looks good.

Even better - it has pockets!

Nah, many dresses are designed for shortarses...
Plus I like my dresses on the long side. I wear maxis as midis and that seems to work...

Trousers are a nightmare. The fun styles and colours never come in leg length 'Giraffe'. 😡

For some reason MN is advertising Danish endurance knickers to me.
I do not need endurance knickers. I didn't know such things existed. I don't do marathons (nor even half-marathons). Nor do I spend entire days on horseback very often (which reminds me that I am overdue for a pony trekking holiday... haven't been for years).

EdithStourton · 13/05/2026 19:27

Everything crossed for you, Myrtle.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/05/2026 19:34

wtf are ‘Danish Endurance knickers’? Are they specially reinforced so you can eat a huge number of breakfast pastries without straining your trouser seams?

Im 5'8" and dresses are all too short for me. The waistline is an empire line on me, hence they never fit. This is why I make my own.
The average British woman is about 5'4".
Also sleeves are too short and shoulders too narrow. Boo.

FuzzyPuffling · 13/05/2026 19:56

I think i need endurance knickers. They sound as though they might give me a great deal of support. Maybe even emotional support?

They'd keep my nethers warm in January!

Magpiecomplex · 13/05/2026 21:04

They do look warm and cosy! Mine are slightly less voluminous.

I tried a dress on in J C Penney this morning - drawstring waist sat about two inches above my waist and the hem dangled just above my ankles. I’m 5’7” and slightly chunky so it made me resemble a potato sack, and even though it was a bargain price in a sale and had pockets, I put it back.

EmpressaurusKitty · 13/05/2026 21:38

I’m 4’11.

I found a maxi dress in a charity shop last summer that I think is supposed to be knee or mid-calf length but works nicely for me, but that was a one off. And perfect for my cousin’s party.

In general though, I’m dependent on petite sections having stuff I like.

Advice on buying in a sale. Copyright me.

If you would buy it at full price if you had the money, you should buy it.
Otherwise, just don't.

@MarieDeGournay Some wasps came in down my chimney last summer. I committed murder with insecticide after I saw them crawling out from behind the electric fireplace.

I have one of those chimney caps, so I'm hoping I don't get a bird down it, though I did have to remove a bird body and bird skeleton when I had the old back boiler removed from our old house. I then had that chimney capped.

I'm the same height. Dresses are frequently too short in the back for me, so I have to select styles with care. My inside leg measurement is only 31 inches.

Long Tall Sally frocks don't work for me.

I'm similar. I have such a long body that I can't wear swimsuits with underwired support because they end up at the bottom of my ribcage.

But I'm still 5'7" and a bit. So I wear tankinis - my stomach hasn't been exposed to sunlight since I was a child - and dark tights with dresses.

But since I've had orthotics which can't be used with sandals, and wear compression socks daily, I'm just in trousers these days - or attempting to rock long black socks with black ankle boots (think similar to DMs).

MarieDeGournay · 13/05/2026 22:01

Just popping in because I've been tidying/clearing space - having waited yonks to get some jobs done on the house, they'll be here tomorrow at 7.30 to do them😬
So a day of mad tidying, and an early night.

Glad you feel positive about the interview, Myrtle - crossing everythingSmile
Thank you for the baby panda, Pasta - not floofy only, but roly-poly as well!

Endurance knickers sound like an excellent idea for getting through the disruption of work on the houseGrin

I also wear tankinis. I have the sandal problem for the same reason - orthotics.

<sidles in>

Is there any champagne on the go to celebrate FayeRC's tribunal win? I'm as parched as a cuttlefish here.

I'd also like a word with the sleep gerbils: last night I dreamt I was driving through a fire storm where the wind was so strong it was setting fire to the trees. Then I got home to find strange people in my house who had replaced my fridge with a tiny cupboard and placed the most hideous plastic swing bin in my kitchen. And THEN my ex turned up to discuss his impending heart surgery.

If we could not do that again, it would be much appreciated, particularly as I woke in a cold sweat at 2.30am. Thank you in advance.

p.s. Endurance knickers? Endurance for...what?

WearyAuldWumman · 13/05/2026 22:07

I'll add that I tried wearing compressions stockings with my leggings at the gym, but couldn't stand the pulling at the back of the knee, so now wear Sweat Betty compression leggings.

Usual K. Le Guin (Goddess): 2 people can do 3 full time jobs but one person can't do two full-time jobs.

Speaking about his job, her job and their job which is child rearing and housekeeping. I deliberately said his job because I think relationships with women would probably get this immediately.
