Astonishing.

Independence for Scotland Party reports with images from email from National/Herald. The editor/s say after 'strong feedback from readers' they refuse to carry adverts from this small political party in the National, but will carry ads in the Herald if the word 'woman' is removed.

Attaching images, hope they will work.

'This statement responds to the decision by @ScotNational
to refuse future advertising from the Independence for Scotland Party following so called “reader feedback" and to the conditional offer from The Herald to carry an advert only if it removes any reference to women. This raises serious concerns about censorship, political gatekeeping and the suppression of legitimate debate in Scotland’s media. '

This sounds like something that would happen in Afghanistan.

That’s actually offensive to the poor women living there. Jesus 😱

Eva Comrie, gender critical, is lead candidate for the list vote for the Alliance for Scotland in the Fife and Mid Scotland area.

That made me chuckle.

I keep checking this thread in the hope that someone with legal expertise will confirm what I suspect, which is that newspapers are free to refuse advertising, including political advertising, if they feel like it. It happens often enough that media refuse to carry ads they think would damage their brand. Different rules for broadcasters, I think.

t's also entirely predictable that a tiny outfit like the ISP is trying to game the refusal to gain attention and make political hay.

Doesn't mean it's not outrageous that an ad mentioning women's rights is deemed undesirable of course. I

Would it be similar to a business being able to refuse to serve any customer they want - except if they are doing it on the basis of the customer having a protected characteristic?

I beg you to look at the only party left in the “alliance”. They are completely against women’s rights.

Ms Comrie is definitely not against women's rights.

Sheridan's an arse, but - fortunately - he's not standing in Fife.

Have to agree to differ given her alliance with the worst of men.
