I reckon this BashBack business is going to backfire

Thinking about the overreach, the threatening behaviour, the way that Glinner getting arrested made a lot of people go "What the hell?!" and think again...

We on here, and our ilk, know what these men are like. But out there, not so many do. So if they do start showing up in force to things, damaging property and screaming at women, the rest of the world will start see what they're like.

It's all a bit more of the Project Sunlight and #letthemspeak really, isn't it?

Not to mention the damage that the FoxKillah is doing to his reputation (if that were actually possible), by publicly supporting them...

I heretofore dub them Bash Backfire.

The bit of information that the public typically misses is what is considered to be transphobia.

I think most people think transphobia comprises of actual harm, hatred or discrimination. When they hold this in mind, many (perhaps most) are sympathetic. If/ when they realise masked men are screaming, shouting and threatening women who want to meet to discuss single sex rape shelters - not so much.

MarieDeGournay · 07/04/2026 20:53

That balaclava-ed Bash Back operative must be very small if they have to use both hands to hold a claw hammer like that.

I also think that, still, a lot of the public assume that men-who-think-they-are-women have had some kind of major physical change. Not just dropped a bit of oestrogen and dyed their hair.

Interestingly, I'm just perusing a Reddit thread about this, and even some of them are having their doubts:

Wait is this organisation a real thing? It legit looks like transphobic propaganda please don’t tell me actual trans people are involved in it

I’m all for vandalism but make it artistic and non violent ffs

There are more comments like that. If even the TRAs think that Bash Back poster is a bad look, it really must be.

Very strange I started a thread about them earlier in the day and nobody responded.

Sorry, I didn't see that! What are your feelings on it?

I think, as I said, it's going to go very badly for them, in terms of public perception of men in dresses who just want to pee.

Not that I'm assuming everyone is doing the same as me of course 😂...

Not that I'm assuming everyone is doing the same as me of course 😂...

I was mowing 😄

But then I had a bit of a look on BlueHairSky, and got incensed by the Bash Back men. The image of a person in a balaclava wielding a hammer is just so VIOLENT 😡

But we actual women should just all #bekind, right?! They just want to pee. We are under no threat from them...

Re your point OP, I think this is worrying.

Even more worrying is that I'm not convinced people will take it seriously enough.

Must be those female hormones they're pumping into themselves, it's making them all feminine and weak. Poor lambs have barely got enough strength to make their skirts go spinny these days let alone go swinging a hammer about.

GallantKumquat · 07/04/2026 22:39

Quite interesting that on the other subreddit 👀 opinion is mixed between

  1. The report was part of the "fascist propaganda machine" making trans people look bad.
  2. A case in point of activists mishandling communications: "Let this be a reminder that when you get information in confidence with the explicit instruction to NOT keep a copy, print or otherwise, DO NOT keep a copy."
GarlicFind · 07/04/2026 22:54

the "fascist propaganda machine" making trans people look bad ...

... by reporting on trans people's propaganda, which calls for violence using WW2-style artwork in red and black. OK ...

Yeah, straight outta Der Stürmer, really.

O wad some Pow'r...

Forresty · 07/04/2026 23:39

Has anyone noticed the very wrong claw hammer, though 😆

No doubt it identifies as a non-AI hammer 🙄

That would be funnier if it weren't so threatening.

There was a thread about it started on Sunday, which ran to four pages:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5513148-the-right-side-of-history-strikes-again

How is anyone supposed to know the subject from that title?!

Honeslty, if I'd known there were already threads about Bash Back I wouldn't have started one.

Think about your thread titles, people.

This is really scary. I’ve just researched Bashback and some old articles come up from 10 or so years ago. They seem very aggressive.

Is this the same activist group? It’s from 2016.

I believe that is the original USA-based group which the recent UK-based children group latched onto, appropriating their name and approach.

That's quite some document @Sarahsduck! Thanks for posting.

I'm not saying there's any connection, but it is erm, unfortunate?, that their picture of the two handed hammer wielding figure is becoming prominent at a time where Ann Widdecombe's murder is due to a vicious hammer attack.

Is this the same activist group? It’s from 2016.

This is their definition of the much-used and controversial word 'queer':
We view queer as the blurring of sexual and gender identities. Queer is the refusal of fixed identities. It is a war on all identity.

So basically, 'queer' means pretty much anything, therefore pretty much nothing.

It's a useful label made out of the same stuff whiteboards are made out of, so you can write anything you like on it with a non-permanent marker, and then change it if you want it to mean something else..

More often than not, our use of the term queer is interchangeable with our use of trans, though that is not necessarily true of the way in which trans-whatever is used.

I find myself 'comparing and contrasting' other campaigns against oppression which turned to violence - the ones I'm familiar with used violence as, if not a last resort, certainly not a first resort, after decades, even centuries of other forms of protest.

The term 'boycott' originated in a peaceful form of protest against extreme oppression and exploitation in 19th century Ireland - levels of oppression and exploitation that I guarantee nobody in BashBack has ever come anywhere near experiencing, and yet they turn enthusiastically to

.. bar fights, outrunning lynch mobs, glamdalization, attacking the homes of heterosexist murderers, outright chaos, alleged lootings, theory discussions, self-defense tips, social gatherings, beat downs, the acquisition of large quantities of pepper spray, and attempts at sexual liberation.

The readiness to turn so quickly to violence and the threats of violence - the punching, the decapitating, the raping with objects, the details of painful deaths - seems to be a disturbing feature of the TRA movement.
