I reckon this BashBack business is going to backfire

Thinking about the overreach, the threatening behaviour, the way that Glinner getting arrested made a lot of people go "What the hell?!" and think again...

We on here, and our ilk, know what these men are like. But out there, not so many do. So if they do start showing up in force to things, damaging property and screaming at women, the rest of the world will start see what they're like.

It's all a bit more of the Project Sunlight and #letthemspeak really, isn't it?

Not to mention the damage that the FoxKillah is doing to his reputation (if that were actually possible), by publicly supporting them...

I heretofore dub them Bash Backfire.

This is their definition of the much-used and controversial word 'queer':
We view queer as the blurring of sexual and gender identities. Queer is the refusal of fixed identities. It is a war on all identity.

So basically, 'queer' means pretty much anything, therefore pretty much nothing.

It's a useful label made out of the same stuff whiteboards are made out of, so you can write anything you like on it with a non-permanent marker, and then change it if you want it to mean something else..

More often than not, our use of the term queer is interchangeable with our use of trans, though that is not necessarily true of the way in which trans-whatever is used.

I find myself 'comparing and contrasting' other campaigns against oppression which turned to violence - the ones I'm familiar with used violence as, if not a last resort, certainly not a first resort, after decades, even centuries of other forms of protest.

The term 'boycott' originated in a peaceful form of protest against extreme oppression and exploitation in 19th century Ireland - levels of oppression and exploitation that I guarantee nobody in BashBack has ever come anywhere near experiencing, and yet they turn enthusiastically to

.. bar fights, outrunning lynch mobs, glamdalization, attacking the homes of heterosexist murderers, outright chaos, alleged lootings, theory discussions, self-defense tips, social gatherings, beat downs, the acquisition of large quantities of pepper spray, and attempts at sexual liberation.

The readiness to turn so quickly to violence and the threats of violence - the punching, the decapitating, the raping with objects, the details of painful deaths - seems to be a disturbing feature of the TRA movement.

It is a war on all identity.

I wouldn't go as far as declaring war, but it seems that we can agree that identity is a personal matter that has nothing to do with the state and concentrate on protections for characteristics that have real material consequences like sex.

All this time, I didn't realise they agree with me!!!

Why Bash Back is not being treated as a terrorist group is beyond me.
Inciting violence is a crime, why are the police not investigating?

I suspect BashBack might revel in the publicity and loud would be the cries of victimisation.

They are aware of Bashback.

My assumption is that it's more useful to keep them visible and monitor them than push it underground.

I would expect BashBack to come under 'LASIT' category, which Prevent/etc has provision for.

As someone pointed out on the Heather Herbert thread, Ann Widdecombe was murdered by a series of hammer blows.

It's a very unfortunate coincidence, if indeed it is a coincidence, that Bash Back chooses to publicise itself through an image of a balaclava'd man wielding a hammer.

One problem I see with this is that I think a lot of TRAs would say that 'woman' and 'female' are examples of identities. So if there are no identities, then women can't have 'woman'.

But, I suppose then men can't have 'woman' either?

They just tie everything in knots, don't they?

Absolutely- hope people are onto it.

WrongKindOfFeminist · Yesterday 22:21

Today's posts are a series of pictures of politicians, descriptions of their 'transgressions' and an exhortation to 'bash back'.

Given events of the past two weeks, this is dangerous and well into illegality.

It’s entirely deliberate. It’s terrorism.

WrongKindOfFeminist · Yesterday 22:26

Absolutely.

I wonder if they’re trying to provoke some action against them.

WrongKindOfFeminist · Yesterday 22:45

Quite possibly.

Oh that would be a dilemma for Nadia!
