Appreciation for J K Rowling in sex and gender discussions

Whenever I see her posts the world suddenly makes some sense to me, J K Rowling is a beacon of sanity and reality, always on the side of women and girls. Her words always help me to remember that I'm one of the normal sane women in the world who understand the tide of misogyny that tries to drown us with the "trans" nonsense. Hallelujah and thanks to the goddess for J K's existence.

Has she acknowledged she was wrong to call Lin Yu-ting a man yet?

Why would she? She’s not been proven wrong afaik?

If he provides proof that he’s actually a woman then I’m sure we’ll all hold up our hands and admit we were wrong. We’ll wait for that proof though.

CornishDaughteroftheDawn · 06/04/2026 18:09

JKR is an absolute Queen and we have so much to thank her for. Bravery in spades. What an inspiration.

JK Rowling taught me with her success and strength to not back down even in the face of misogyny even before the discussions on gender. Seeing her when I was younger not give up and keep succeeding even with especially male critics trying to degrade her and her work as lesser kept me going through everything from recovering from bad jobs with horrible coworkers to leaving abusive relationships and finally finishing college. She's one of my biggest inspirations.

That's lovely.

She's an absolute heroine. I love her books and I love her bravery to stand up and say what she believes. Sadly DS was in London today and he sent me this photo. Looks like someone is spraying grafitti on the floor. I hope no one felt intimidated.

I do find these Potter tantrums very amusing. A wee sideshow - the bathos is just pitch perfect.

Swallowdoubleandrunamile · 06/04/2026 20:10

JKR is some woman for one woman. Absolute legend.

I read that is someone stating their legitimate opinions.

I'll tell you what is hate though, someone posting on Bluesky that they'd like to see JK Rowling raped with a splintery rolling pin:

The brass neck of someone who makes sexual and aggressive threats towards women (and who has a history of violence) to come onto Mumsnet and try to gaslight us into feeling shame for standing up to men who don't respect women or women's rights, legal protections and boundaries.

Says it all really - it's the fecking Platonic ideal of the type of man who doesn't see women as human beings and who thinks womanhood is a performance of a collection of sexist stereotypes.

I think one of the things that really angers me about Aida's post the most is in the comments on here, Aida says something to the effect of "its just telling jkr to fuck off". So just say "she can fuck off" no need for graphic rolling pin rape fantasies like ones a rude but not graphic rape imagery. There are many people I'm not a fan of openly but you don't hear me saying they should be violated with splintery kitchenware. Maybe I'm a bit sensitive as a rape survivor to phrases of this but rape as punishment even as a joke is disgusting work.

You are absolutely right to object to such disgusting threats, TheCozyWyvern, and if the poster in question had an iota of decency he'd apologise to you in particular, to all survivors in general, and to women as a group for making such threats of horrific violence.Flowers

Re calling Lin Yu-ting a man - one of JKR's many alleged transgressions.

LYT has a DSD called Complete Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome (CAIS), which means he has XY chromosomes and is male, so if JKR called him a man, she was correct.

For now, LYT is considered eligible to box in the next Olympics. The justification is that because of CAIS he didn't go through male puberty, and did not gain the physical advantages associated with that.

It's controversial, but at least a coherent explanation/justification has been offered, i.e. that the IOC's rationale for excluding men from women's boxing - safety, fairness, etc - does not apply to a male with CAIS.

This is an improvement on 'It says 'Female' on his passport' which was the only eligibility rule at the Paris Olympics!

It will be interesting to see what happens if Imane Khelif takes the IOC test, and tries to compete at the next Olympics. The test will show what previous tests have shown: he is male with a different DSD, 5-ARD not CAIS, and has been through male puberty, so the argument used to justify LYT's eligibility will not apply to him.

Sorry for the derail into Olympic eligibility!
More to the point, I repeat: if JKR called LYT a man, she was correct.

thank you all for your posts here- I had just gone down a head fuck rabbit hole of identity politics and reading all this has made me feel sane again .

Has she acknowledged she was wrong to call Lin Yu-ting a man yet?

Why do you think she was wrong? As I understand it this individual is a biological male.

CassOle · 09/04/2026 22:52

Hs it been officially confirmed that the DSD that Lin Yu-Ting has is CAIS and not PAIS (or a different DSD)? Or is this the one that is most likely given the current information that is available?

What in the 2010 free video editing program was that? Surely no one uses those naff transitions anymore.

I'm saying nothing about the narcissistic content - that speaks for itself.

There is no detailed report on this. But the BBC article below said that Lin was tested by World Boxing as having the SRY gene (i.e. genetically male). The Taiwanese boxing association then appealed, with additional medical documentation, and Lin was reinstated to the female category:
"The World Boxing Medical Committee considered and evaluated the medical documentation presented and determined that the boxer was deemed to be female and eligible to compete in the female category," it said.

So CAIS seems the likely, from the little info given.

It also explains why Lin and her national association kept a low profile during the Olympics and afterwards. They knew that a proper testing and appeals system would most likely reinstate her to the female category.

A couple of years ago on Twitter, in response to my comment that female rape survivors should not have to share their therapy spaces with males, a TRA told me that I was 'not raped hard enough' and that I was 'dick obsessed'. JKR completely unexpectedly entered the chat - she was fucking brilliant and tweeted me later to ask if I was okay.

She's a hero on so many levels. I love her.

2Hot2Greedy · 10/04/2026 10:10

@AidaP JKR is a philanthropist, founded and funds a DV shelter, founded charities for disadvantaged children, uses her platform to campaign for the rights, safety and dignity of women and girls...

...while you go on social media threatening to rape her with a splintered rolling pin.

And you get your boxers in a bunch wondering why women don't want to share their spaces with dangerous men like you? Seriously?

oldtiredcyclist · 10/04/2026 11:01

J K Rowling is a brilliant author and a real heroine, who stands up for girl's and women's rights. My wife and I started reading the Harry Potter novels in our 40's and then enjoyed the films, before moving on to the later "Strike" books. She donates huge amounts of money to charities and in my opinion, is a true "National treasure".

I think the issue is there is no transparency in how this boxer was tested.

Until that is resolved it is actually more likely that the boxer has PAIS and someone has challenged a finding of CAIS which World Boxing has then backed down on. Until this is resolved, there can be no confidence that this boxer who is genetically male has the CAIS profile.

I think they knew there might be reasonable wiggle room to challenge and in this case they have won. I wonder if it was taken to CAS whether a panel of independent experts would find to uphold this decision.

Of course Lin-Yu Ting is a man. He can’t have complete androgen insensitivity syndrome because he clearly has evidence of some androgen sensitivity on account of him looking like a man.

The following from The Wire, clearly shows that the tests carried out in the Delhi labs, revealed that both Khelif and Lin had the following condition, exactly the same one as Caster Semenya and other athletes who should not be competing in the women's category have - 46m XY 5-ard DSD.

https://www.3wiresports.com/articles/2025/6/1/xxyetyl1aewfij823hnfdrsbi1sqjm

Last October, in an account that built on what I wrote from Paris, a French outlet, citing a June 2023 medical report, reported that Khelif has a difference in sexual development – formally called 5-alpha reductase type-2 deficiency – with XY chromosomes, internal testes and a “micropenis.”
A hormone test showed a “male-type testosterone level of 14.7,” the French story said, “while the female gender does not exceed the maximum level of 3.”
As an official U.S. government website, the National Library of Medicine, explains, many people with 5-alpha reductase are “assigned female at birth” but are “genetically male.”

I think that they only clarified the DSD that Khelif had. Not what Ting had. It just confirmed that Ting had a XY Chromosomes in that article not the condition that I can see. Have I missed it?

I assumed that it would have to be exactly the same condition, based on the half a dozen (at least) track athletes who have the condition. Here is another article which details when the testing was done.

"The disqualification was based on two tests conducted on both athletes as follows:

  • Test performed during the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Istanbul 2022.
  • Test performed during the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi 2023.
For clarification
  • Lin Yu-ting did not appeal the IBA’s decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), thus rendering the decision legally binding.
  • Imane Khelif initially appealed the decision to CAS but withdrew the appeal during the process, also making the IBA decision legally binding.

I understand, but I don't think that anywhere has said they both had the same DSD condition. And we did have confirmation about Khelif but never confirmation of what Ting had, that was assumed. Using logic, if he has been allowed to compete at the moment I doubt that WB would be allowing this with such a clear cut DSD such as 5ARD. The experts have also gone quiet on this one and with all the discussion about the Olympics and CAIS, I am thinking that this is one of those cases and it could be PAIS but WB are choosing not to challenge whether CAIS, if you know what I mean.

If you find anything definitive or clearly speculative that they are the same, please let me know cos I might have missed it.

Timestamped, with direct quotes.

Highlights include comparing trans women using bathrooms to enabling pedophiles, declaring "there are no trans kids," deliberately misgendering named individuals to provoke arrest, and comparing being trans to claiming to be a different race. She also wrote a novel featuring a male serial killer who dresses as a woman to murder victims.

Let me know which of those you'd like to discuss specifically.
