Advice on speaking to MP about sex and gender policy

Hello all
Longtime lurker
Am going to speak to my MP about this whole issue.
Not public IRL about this at all (job and personal cowardice reasons).
I'm so angry that something so absurd has become the required public belief. My MP is female labour not said anything public that I can find.
I don't want to sound mad and I want to have my facts at my fingertips. Any advice on best approaches? Part of me wants to make a list of the most unreasonable things eg Isla Bryson , Lia Thomas and work back logically but I think this might be too confrontational? Has anyone had good effects? At this point I am so furious I think I will come across badly. Also any advice on specific asks?
I actually want a wideranging apology from the government and an enquiry into the institutional failure that allowed it as well as all the obvious stuff. But recognise I may have radicalised myself ..
Thanks in advance

Aye, righto.

You've just had the ear of Governments through lobby groups being given unique and unprescendented access to influence legislation and policy (SPS, Scottish Trans, Engender) and organisations being captured and advised to break the law because they are being handed eye wateringly huge sums of money as long as they follow the party line. Poltical groups having to whip their MSP's to follow their women hating policies.

As opposed to ordinary women having access to legal funding in order that they are not financially ruined by having to defend women's rights in court.

It’s always “ordinary women” right up until the billionaire funding, media platforms, lobby groups, and political influence get mentioned.

Then suddenly power apparently doesn’t count when it’s on your side.

I’m openly trans and perfectly happy to say so in public. You’re the ones still hiding behind euphemisms, polling, and fantasies of the apology you think is just around the corner.

Posts that gloat and laugh at women for feeling frightened in a male-centric world, when the power that men have over them has been made so clear and personal, and weaponised by bad actors with an agenda.

Not a good look. And proof again that no male can ever know what it is like to be born a girl and live a woman's life.

Well, quite. It's very revealing.

Good luck OP, and please come back and let us know how you get on.
My mp is Carla Denyer, and there's no point addressing her on this, as she doesn't respond to her constituents on any issue.

teawamutu · 02/04/2026 09:01

My MP is one of the worst transactivists in Parliament. On the rare occasions he deigns to reply to me he takes months, man/transplains and essentially refuses to represent my/other women's views or interests.

My one consolation is that he's a near-certainty to lose his seat at the next election. Given his likely replacement is either Tory or Reform I am genuinely puzzled by his decision to treat his constituents with such contempt.

The self-pity would land better if your side didn’t have a billionaire’s private legal fighting fund behind it.

Meanwhile trans people have had to live openly through this level of hostility for years, and we’re still here: public, proud, and loud.

So spare me the cosplay of "brave dissidents".

That's what really bothers you, isn't it? That there is, for once, a feminist who has money who can take on the vile misogynist bigots and patriarchy. And so feminists are still here, public, loud, proud and winning this war. And we are not going anywhere.

Transwomen are the ones giving us rape threats and death threats like these images here, so spare us your concocted victim mentality. You are no victims, you're the antagonists and bullies and evil. Get back to us when your sacred caste of powerful, privileged and protected males get anything anywhere remotely near this abuse, from feminists:

Well you’re not that loud and proud are you? You’re hiding behind anonymity. So why are you berating women for not posting under their full names? You can’t be public if you’re hiding under a pseudonym can you?

He's a troll foldyroll and that's how we know he's cosplaying. He needs to go back to the manosphere and leave women alone.

To be fair…. I don’t think it needs that many words.

I am? I got doxxed on this website about 5 times now, if mumsnet users can find it, it cannot be hidden that deep 😂

Ah so you’re not that proud then of your opinions? I mean, surely if you were, you would put your full name as your user name? You can’t berate people for doing the exact same thing as you are doing without outing yourself as a sexist hypocrite. And if you’ve put enough info on the internet that you can be doxxed 5 times….. er…. Most councils do internet safety classes, have you thought about registering? And no, the guy offering you £400000000 is not a real Nigerian prince. Don’t send your bank details.

There were some good points being made at the beginning of this thread before we (and I guess I’m in that group too, sorry) started listening to the man and going off track like Atalanta after the golden apples.

MPs are always being yelled at by people without much self regulation, so I agree they do tune out on that. A personal story, a couple of irrefutable facts, and a simple question to make them think about eg how would this work in practice, what are the problems, might be effective. You need something that they will engage with either emotionally or via a thought process, for a few moments, which means it needs to be immediate, simple, and memorable. And not too confrontational because they will just tune out, see above.

CassOle · 02/04/2026 09:45

I think that Aida has demonstrated exactly what the issue is. This is why we need the EA2010 as clarified to be adhered to. The guidance needs to be approved by Labour. The MP in question is Labour, so this is a good opportunity to bring that up.

BlueLegume · 02/04/2026 09:53

Hi all, @AidaP attemps to derail threads similar to these on a regular basis. Best stick to giving each other sound advice and not respond.

Good luck @Tempanonymouse do let us know how things go. Someone else mentioned Sex Matters for resources. Genspect is also good and Nick Wallis the journalist has been running a blog on the subject.

Then why are people in this thread still scared to say it publicly under their real names?

Edited

The same reason women have always had to be scared, or at the very least cogniscent of the dangers from males and the society males have created. The same reason some women deal with it by internalising misogyny. Choosing fawning, instead of fight or flight. Patriarchal society. You wouldn't understand, being male.
The veneer of equality for females is very very thin, as is shown by trans ideology, which fundamentally is just pushing for men to gain even more rights than they have already.

soupycustard · 02/04/2026 10:37

Sorry @BlueLegume I hadnt seen your post. You're quite right. I'm usually more circumspect about engaging, but sometimes these clueless, self-absorbed toddlers really grind my gears! I shall make myself a cup of soothing tea!

Yes me too. I forgot alll my mother’s mantras about not mocking the afflicted. I think it would be much kinder if we did not engage.

The walls of gender ideology are a-crashing down. It's happening in real time.

I don't think tbere's an apology coming. Entitled, women hating men don't tend to do that. I'm just enjoying seeing the world wake up and men being told no.

Waitwhat23 · 02/04/2026 11:54

And to ignore the entitled dude and get back to the OP.

I think you need a hook to hang it on. General "Men can't be women" stuff doesn't count with many in Labour. Do you have a local or personal example that is relevant?

And, kindly, you can forget an apology OP 😄The most we will get it a slow backing-into-the-bushes as the tide continues to turn.

Reading with interest. I emailed my MP about my concerns about the erosion of the rights of women and girls. All very reasonable. I received a page full of word salad template letter about how vulnerable trans people are and they must be protected. Since then she has not replied to two emails I've sent on different subjects. MPs have to wake up to the fact that they simply cannot wave away legitimate concerns by waving the transphobia flag. I'll be interested to hear if anyone is able to elicit a more constructive response.

Some day I'll do a nice data visualisation of how terminology that comes from (and makes sense in the context of) gender critical analysis gets picked up by TRAs through a sort of subconscious "oooo that sounds like a bad thing and they are bad people so they must be it haha" osmosis and regurgitated back as a criticism of gender critical feminists in a way that makes no sense whatsoever.

Actually now I write it down, it's exactly what they do with the words "men" and "woman" isn't it? Disconnect them from their original meaning then throw them around as if their new hollowed out form still has significance and authority even though there is absolutely nothing behind it any more, just a free-floating word
