Labour draws up equality law revamp that will inflict ‘socialism’ on Britain

Sir Keir Starmer’s government is drawing up new statutory guidance that critics say amounts to a “war on the middle class”.

Under the plans, public sector bodies will have a new “socio-economic duty” imposed on them, meaning that all decisions they make must strive to reduce inequality in society.

The policy would lead to benefits claimants and deprived families being prioritised for taxpayer-funded services, with the middle classes pushed to the back of the queue, according to the Conservatives.

The socio-economic duty has been dubbed “Harman’s law” after Baroness Harman, the former Labour deputy leader who originally brought it in as part of the Equality Act in 2010.

It included a clause that required public bodies to “have due regard to the desirability of exercising [their functions] in a way that is designed to reduce the inequalities of outcome which result from socio-economic disadvantage”.

The Tories kept the Act when they won the election later that year, but scrapped the socio-economic element, with Theresa May, then home secretary, describing it as “ridiculous”.

What there are is people who, for whatever reason, have adopted a contemporary, post-modernistic identity. Nobody is the opposite sex to that which they are. We are all either male or female.

People can present as they wish, but it doesn't make them into a unique or specific category of human being. People have experimented with self expression for millenia - before the trans concept was invented in recent decades.'Trans' is nothing but a framing device; a catalogue of terms for describing feelings and imagination.

I live in the NE where socioeconomic conditions are lower than most of the rest of the country and rates of lots of lifestyle diseases are very high.

When they were relating Covid death rates it was always highest up here.

Taxi driver was ranting about the ‘myth of white privilege’ the other day and quite frankly, after 25 years of teaching the bottom 1% of the bottom 1% socioeconomically and SEND speaking, I agree with him.

Right here, in a nutshell, is why so many ambitious, highly qualified, skilled and well-paid people are leaving this country - because they are constantly clobbered by this wretched government and punished for having made a success of their lives.

When you continually reward the net takers while picking the pockets of net contributors you perpetuate a system where it pays to sit at home and not contribute.

The poorest are working for poverty wages often in grim working conditions. Looking after our old, working in insecure jobs etc. , ensuring the wealthy can make bigger profits.That's how the poorest subsidise the rest of us and in particular the billionaires who avoid tax by offshoring their wealth.
Remember the richest 50 families in the UK own more than the poorest 50 per cent of the population. 34 million people.
