School Registration Form - pushing gender identity

BreatheAndFocus · 29/03/2026 18:14

DC has been accepted at a secondary school and I’m filling out the registration form (name, address, etc etc). What has pissed me off massively though is the questions about gender identity. They’re asked in such a way to imply that everyone has a gender identity, and there’s no way to say DC hasn’t, or to omit the question (because it’s online and you have to answer all questions).

The choices are: Male, Female, Self-Describe. That’s it. No way to say you don’t have one and don’t believe in this crap stuff.

Surely this isn’t neutral? It’s pushing a belief. Is this allowed?

(Note - ticking Self Describe didn’t bring up a box I could type None in, it just stayed a tick. My concern with that is that activist teachers will be rushing up to DC and asking whether they’re enby, Otherkin, etc etc.)

One minute you think a child has adult responsibility - then the next you don't think they can articulate anything for themselves?

Apparently only speshul children are capable of clearly articulating their truth. Those speshul children being all the more remarkable as apparently they can speak their truth as toddlers.

LaraLiving · 30/03/2026 10:30

This for real?
female and male are sexes. Not gender identity.
you are either one of the two sexes. Until you aren’t. But you can have a fluid identity to your hearts content.

Imbrocator · 30/03/2026 12:16

Not sure if it’s already been said, but another way to tackle it is to email the school concerning not being able to skip that question and point out how uncomfortable it made your child to be forced to describe their identity before they were ready. Ridiculous that they even asked in the first place as it’s not relevant at all to their role, but if they are asking they should at least do so with a modicum of sensitivity. This approach might be a better option if you’re worried about coming at it from a sex realist perspective.

Shortshriftandlethal · 30/03/2026 09:57

It works the other way round too. 'Trans/gender identity' is an adult concept foisted onto children in order to validate adult ideologies and fantasies.

I left teaching in 2010 - and nobody had heard of 'gender identity' let alone have one. It simply wasn't a thing.

Edited

I didnt ever say it didnt, did I? As your re saying, it works BOTH ways. One way, AND the other.

No I just think 11 year olds wouldnt even be thinking about this unless their parents obsess about it.

What child do I think has adult responsibility? Are you stalking wrong?

I cannot work out what your post is trying to suggest?

Transgenderism is an adult concept foisted onto children to satisfy adult feelings and political ideologies - including by some schools and activist teachers.
No child understands what 'gender identity' means without an adult explaining it to them first.

You suggested the mother in question had hot housed her child to reject 'gender identity' and that given free reign to fill in the form herself, the child may well have understood what it meant. Is that what you are suggesting?

Given free reign, the child would just tick female or male and habe ignored the other bit and got on with their day

Bobbymoore123 · 30/03/2026 12:40

Just cross out or ignore "self-describe" and move on with your life.

I have a 10 year old granddaughter and of course she's intelligent enoughto to be aware of this as an issue....especially since she's aware that both her mother and I have been involved with it to a large degree.

Forms sent from schools for registration purposes are meant to be filled out by the parent or guardian, not the child......although I can well imagine the mother wanted to share in the excitement her daughter must feel for moving up to secondary school and getting the school they have chosen by including her in the form filling session. ( personally, I'd be nervous/cautious about a school that used forms which included the concept of 'gender identity' on them)

Why are you making such a big deal out of this issue. You know this board was meant to serve as a community for women who reject trans ideology. and child transition; and the mother in question wanted advice and thoughts from others.

Sorry, what? The school is the one asking children non-evidence based and politically motivated questions, not the parents. Why on earth shouldn’t a parent respond? Do you expect parents to keep quiet and allow such thinking to be normalised in their children?

Yep, when my DC were 10/11 they had no idea until the school brought it up about 3456 a day in every lesson in really bizarre ways by incorporating pronouns and trans stuff into every lesson.

I was glad though as id been wondering what their stance would be but didn't really want to broach the subject.

I think you are very wrong. This stuff is everywhere; schools, youth activities online etc so it’s very likely that lots of 11 year olds have an opinion on this shit.

Utter bollocks. It ‘s not the sign of an obsession on the part of a parent for an 11 year old to recognise that GI is bollocks.

Kids are capable of watching the news, other stuff on TV or reading and watching stuff online (so few people buy news papers these days but it’s possible that it could be newspaper articles).

Kids also talk about this kind of stuff especially if someone at school is claiming a trans ID.

The school asked make, female, other. They didnt mention any words about gender identity or your feelings about that term.

If you cant see that you are just as likely to have your children immersed in this simply through your own obsession with the subject, then I pity them.

Unlikely they are. Just an obsessed parent.

They wouldnt volunteer that when simply being asked if they are male or female. Not unless they were seeking validation on the topic from an adult who they know will be pleased with what they say from previous experience.

Your kids school brought up issues around gender identity and trans identity several times a day?

Be honest here. Are you telling the truth?

Is it? Can you point to somewhere it says that please? Last I checked mumsnet HQ adamantly said it is to discuss sex and gender and not aimed to supprt any particular viewpoint. I'm pretty sure the owner has said that in the media.

And what 11 year old would not be WTF about “other”? That alone would be sufficient express an opinion. No requirement for an obsession. You seem rather overly invested in trying to prove that OP is not telling the truth.

What exactly is your motivation? I can only assume it's to shut down the discussion which isn't your place to do.

You can disagree (forever it would appear) but have no right to silence anyone here.

The OP clearly stated the facts; a form has two mandatory fields, one for sex and another for gender. Everyone saying that this is wrong from a gdpr pov is correct and we should all push back against ideological claptrap being used where it has no place.

But be honest, you're here to teach anyone GC a thing ot two. You're continued use of "obsessed" is telling.

Male and female aren't gender identities though, are they.

Do you believe 11 year olds should be asked misleading or inaccurate questions on forms?

TheAutumnCrow · 30/03/2026 17:01

GlovedhandsCecilia · 30/03/2026 07:41

I just know the majority of 11 year olds wouldnt care unless they've been hot housed by a obsessed parent.

Oh no you don’t
