School Registration Form - pushing gender identity

BreatheAndFocus · 29/03/2026 18:14

DC has been accepted at a secondary school and I’m filling out the registration form (name, address, etc etc). What has pissed me off massively though is the questions about gender identity. They’re asked in such a way to imply that everyone has a gender identity, and there’s no way to say DC hasn’t, or to omit the question (because it’s online and you have to answer all questions).

The choices are: Male, Female, Self-Describe. That’s it. No way to say you don’t have one and don’t believe in this crap stuff.

Surely this isn’t neutral? It’s pushing a belief. Is this allowed?

(Note - ticking Self Describe didn’t bring up a box I could type None in, it just stayed a tick. My concern with that is that activist teachers will be rushing up to DC and asking whether they’re enby, Otherkin, etc etc.)

Teachers don't get to see these forms I don't think, they are for diversity figures. But surely your child is male or female? Otherkin has never been considered a gender. it's a whole other (batshit) thing.

BreatheAndFocus · 29/03/2026 18:25

But Male and Female aren’t gender identities. They’re sexes - and they know this because the question before this asks about Birth Sex.

No, it’s not an Equality Monitoring form for anonymous statistics, it’s the registration form that goes on the school’s records, contains name, address, parent/guardian, health, etc.

Let your child fill it out how they see is best for them.

I did it with their input. They wanted to put they had no gender identity - but the form assumed they did. That’s the issue.

So your 11 year old child wasnt happy with jusg ticking male or female, but THEY wanted to specifically note that they do not believe in gender identities and don't have one?

Schools have a legal obligation to collect Sex info but Gender is not a compulsory category for data collection so I would complain to the school and get them to update the question to optional.

SirChenjins · 29/03/2026 18:47

I'd complain to the LA and school. GI is a belief, not a fact, and so should be optional - are they insisting on pupils declaring themselves religious or political beliefs on the form?

Thank you 😊 No, there are no questions about religion or politics. Just name, address, birth sex, gender identity, pronouns, parent details, health, emergency info.

I do wonder what they do with the data.

Yes. I filled in the form alongside them and they gave me input like their preferred name (their forename can be shortened various ways) and so on. DC said they didn’t have a gender identity. Why would they tick male or female??They’d already ticked that for the Birth Sex question.

And they’re 10 not 11.

No idea what your FB link is because none of us are on FB.

There's lots of information online and on MN about why asking for pronouns and GI are not neutral acts, especially when it forces people who might be gender questioning to declare them before they are ready to. This article might helpful https://www.legalfeminist.org.uk/2020/07/19/pronouns-compulsion-and-controversy/

It's just some passive-aggressive BS about parents who think their children are gifted. It doesn't reflect well on the poster that they think 10-year-olds can't recognise the silliness of gender ideology or decide that they aren't going to engage, after all, it's not complicated.

Oh! 😂 I wasn’t expecting it to be that! 🤣 How silly to think that a Y6 child can’t contribute to a form 😂 DC has their own opinions and is perfectly capable of comprehending questions. What a daft link to put! My DC isn’t gifted, just a normal 10yr old!

Ooh, nod nod wink wink, eh? 🤣 🤣

A PP has kindly explained the link and it’s irrelevant and actually reflects badly on you if you think children about to move to secondary school are incapable of answering questions or forming opinions.

It’ll form part of their submission to the National Pupil Database:

Looks like it. OP - it's under 'demographics', so maybe worth contacting them via the email address in that section to point out their error?

StillWeRise · 29/03/2026 20:55

that link refers to 'gender' not sex 😮

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 29/03/2026 22:31

Under GDPR they shouldn't be asking for any personal data that isn't necessary and relevant, especially potentially sensitive data. "Gender identity" also isn't a protected characteristic for EqA purposes, so they wouldn't be able to use that to justify it (at best, they might be able to justify asking whether someone has the PC of "gender reassignment", but the two are not the same). So you may be able to challenge it on that basis.

MrsColinRobinson · 29/03/2026 22:43

I had to fill one recently for a school residential which had clearly been created by the teacher organising the trip who hadn't set up the MS form to restricted inputs.

I patted myself on the back at my restraint by simply added 'sigh'. Passive aggressive admittedly but it was about as polite as I could manage.

I just know the majority of 11 year olds wouldnt care unless they've been hot housed by a obsessed parent.

yes, gender ideologues absolutely hot house their kids and impose their activist language on them. Its definitely an obsession with them.

One minute you think a child has adult responsibility - then the next you don't think they can articulate anything for themselves?

Shortshriftandlethal · 30/03/2026 09:57

GlovedhandsCecilia · 30/03/2026 07:41

I just know the majority of 11 year olds wouldnt care unless they've been hot housed by a obsessed parent.

It works the other way round too. 'Trans/gender identity' is an adult concept foisted onto children in order to validate adult ideologies and fantasies.

I left teaching in 2010 - and nobody had heard of 'gender identity' let alone have one. It simply wasn't a thing.

This is important! The school is on very dodgy ground, keeping this kind of information on children.
