Does anyone here remember this thread, and other similar ones around the time, in which Aja and DJ Lippy were said to be tainted by association because they went on a march about two tier policing and took some LWS leaflets.

its interesting to remember this in the context of this weekend’s news that FILIA have attended an omnicause march, yet we’re supposed to take it as read that these women can pick and choose which of the positions held by other marchers, they align with.

Its hard not to see this as being about how silly working class women can’t be trusted to be exposed to other view points without being beguiled into fascism, yet superior middle class left wing women are safe.

Yep. This ridiculous idea that, if anyone agrees with someone else about anything at all, they must agree about everything. I think SM has spread this silliness from the USA. It divides the opposition & greatly reduces any chance of success. Those at the sharp end of social change are fully entitled to express their opinions, whether I like it or not.

As has come up on earlier threads, although initially FiLia was almost a political vacuum and was as much about having a good day out as anything, it has now been infiltrated by various members of WP UK and AGCL. These groups certainly aren't omnicause, but are very entrenched in the far left analysis of what real left right politics is, ie virtue signalling and demonising any woman or women's group that doesn't agree with them.

So I'm not surprised they were on the march and want everybody (well actually only the right ie left sort of feminists) to know they were. If you see their facebook page it is almost pathetic how knee jerk they are now to let the head girls know they are toeing the line.

FiLia never was very political. It was much more a sort of fan club event to allow "ordinary" women to rub shoulder with well known women. Many of whom weren't strictly feminist but had aquired that name because they had written a book. So in MSM terms that makes them a feminist.

Professional left wing feminists will always, always always, choose 'left' over 'feminist'. They always sell women as a sex class out if they think they've got a chance of pleasing the big boys.

Given the vitriol Aja and Lippy received on here I’m surprised nobody is turning up to defend the double standard. Did Cassiemaddocks get banned eventually?

Having been at the last Filia conference - I was horrified there by the antisemitism- which got so bad that most of the Jewish stall holders were absent by the final day. Any feminist organisation which cannot instantly condemn rape (of anyone), isn’t really feminist to me.
There were really good talks but for example their Trade Union campaign is now lost by association.

After all the business I read about with the conference last year - people being allowed to drag Gaza into everything, hijabs for sale, antisemitism, some sort of altercation at an evening do - plus the criticism of Aja and DJ Lippy for daring to have some views or go to an event with which people didn't agree, I'm just not surprised.

They don't seem to have responded to any of the TwiX criticism though, they just reposted a tweet over and over again.

Shame, but the parallel between them and WEP that @TeflonBoot referenced is spot on. Naice middle class liberals just interested in being - and being seen to be - progressive and correct. I guess the warm embrace of "being on the right side of history" and the praise that comes with it is just too hard to resist for some.

My best memories of FiLiA are of sitting round a table with friends afterwards, chatting & laughing. So much laughing. And of a fabulous second hand bookstall which I think was at Salford.

FiLiA used to be the main place we all met up. Not any longer.

Yes, plus it was a wonderful opportunity to meet feminists from around the world and to hear about some of the less known groups and organisations, and individual women, working in more niche areas, both here and abroad.

It is such a shame that they lost their way.
