Zoe Williams in The Guardian on Girl Guides removing Trans Girls

Arran2024 · 27/03/2026 15:34

Did she do any research for this article? If so, she should have discovered that it's not as easy as the Guides just "changing their name". It is all about their charitable aims. Anyway, typical pro trans girl inclusion article from ZW.

Girlguiding didn’t have to do this to its trans members. There was another way | Zoe Williams

Girlguiding’s response to last year’s supreme court ruling is not the humane option – and changes the organisation’s identity, says Guardian columnist Zoe Williams

Stopped reading the Grauniad years and years ago. - at best even before 'trans' lunacy it was patronising towards and dismissive of women. Pretty bog standard lefty bros.

ZW doesn't do research. It's kind of her hallmark, regardless of subject matter. I guess well done her for making a living out of pulling biased opinions out of her Oxbridge educated arse*.

  • Yes jealous, yes chip on shoulder.

Seriously, don't be jealous. I went there and have never met so many psychopaths in one place. A kind of hungry malice stalked the quads: the real-world job market was waiting at the end of the Oxford rainbow, and entitlement doesn't like being forced to compete. Beneath the patina of success, people like ZM are terrified of being cut out of the network - losing their slim footing on the ice-cliff of public opinion. One false step, one failure to mouth the correct opinions, and she'll be another dead climber. And so on she goes, inhaling her own obvious nonsense. Awful fate.

If it's for girls, it's bad and should change and be taken from girls in order to be boy centric eh?

The journalist has a problem. Wider than her woeful awareness of the issues at hand and her apparent view of a world that has no purpose or life for women and girls beyond being a stage for special males to express themselves on.

But it's another reminder why girls need legal safeguards to be allowed access and equality that is free of the chains of this kind of sexism and politics. Boys have lots and lots of options. They do not need this one too, they can tolerate girls having just a little corner of the universe of their own, and a little bit of life that isn't all about them.

Damned right! 👌💐💐💐💐

There's a disturbing article in the Observer today:

https://archive.is/r6cFE

It begins "The parents of a six year old trans girl who tried to cut off her penis with plastic scissors after being told she couldn't join Rainbows..." and gets worse from there.

This would appear to be the source of that story in The Observer:

“Will volunteers be expected to carry out additional checks or ask for proof?” (The good news, folks, is that they won’t; the mind boggles at what those additional checks might be that didn’t breach at least some safeguarding protocols.)"
Zoe suggesting genital inspections! She's a full on transactivist and knows all the pathetic arguments! Idiot.

A birth certificate is all that's needed, surely? You have to show when your child starts school, so it's not that much of an imposition.

Llamamaman · 29/03/2026 16:10

I was a guardian read but stopped about 5 years ago, precisely because of rubbish such as this. My family stopped reading it too. It’ll be over soon id imagine at the rate they’re haemorrhaging readers.

I mean, I get it that the dead hand of the likes of Ian Dunt and Otto English keep flogging this dead horse, but what is it with Zoe? Is this really the fate of midwits in the media from her perspective that has to be identical to misogynists like Dunt and English? She has no humility at all.

RoyalCorgi · 29/03/2026 16:27

Yes. But birth certificates are not dramatic enough for people like Williams, who have to conjure up lurid fantasies to support their otherwise weak point. Previously I'd thought it was just the middle-age male pervert trans activists who were getting excited at the thought of genital inspections. Lord knows what is going through Williams's head that she is parroting this stuff.

So for the second time in as many weeks I am forced to ask 'what on earth is the editor at the Guardian actually for?'

The quality of journalism at that rag is beyond shocking.

This came up on my X feed - she actually said this about women's football a few years ago ! https://x.com/BasilTheGreat/status/2037925838117630216?s=20

Imagine, in the world according to Zoe, men's football would not have existed if the women's league had been allowed to continue after WW1. All those miners and brickies and ex-soldiers and machine workers would have been either obligated to watch the women's game, or no game at all. Or well over half of men in the game would never have made it as teams would have predominantly been women.
No wonder Zoe sees no issue with men in women's sport, they're no risk to women, women would always have been on top.
The woman is certifiably insane.

Llamamaman · 29/03/2026 16:35

That is borderline child abuse. I read a few of the posts from him and it’s disgusting and that child is going to grow up all shades of fucked up and the parents will blame ‘society’ rather than understand their abuse of their little boy. Who looks like a boy and will continue to do so even more as the years go by. Poor thing.

I saw this earlier on SM, my comment was, 'Zoe speaks her branes again'. Even back in the days when I was happily a Guardian reader, she was never taken seriously by most readers, I think.

Reminds me of “send us your reckons”. She’s completely uninformed but definitely reckons something about it. And for some reason the Guardian is publishing it.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 29/03/2026 16:58

trans girls she spelt boys wrong.

Remember the Other Place, where she was referred to universally as Woe Zilliams? I must say, every point I'd thought of has already been made here.

Particularly just changing the name and refusing point blank to consider girls, whi want a boy free space.

She's Queen Chump.

I'm a Guiding volunteer. I am delighted about this ruling however, due to all the hand wringing and appeasing language from Girlguiding, I certainly don't feel I'm openly able to celebrate this. The fact that they don't have numbers to say how many boys/men this will effect means that it's such a small percentage. Again why are we, as women, wasting our time on this issue when the mental health of our girls is at an all time low? Also the waiting list in our area is huge so it's not putting parents/guardians off! Would be interesting to see how many defect to Scouts. No way I want to run a Cubs session!

I’m a Guiding Leader too. I’m relieved about the ruling but the emails and communication from HQ are embarrassing. All this hand wringing and expensive consulting , yet GGUK don’t even know how many members are affected, For any members that do have to leave, I hope they’ll find their home in Scouts and are happy there.

We to have long waiting lists so I looks the the majority of our parents and carers are ignoring HQ and supporting local Guiders who are just cracking on doing what we do - girl lead activities in a girl only space.

Oh agreed - but it's the Guardian, hence my mild surprise.

To be fair the Guardian did have journalists like Bindel, Freeman, Moore, Sodha who all stuck up for women, only 3 of those were driven out by TRAs.
The thing is, they should just fully lean in to being TERFy. At the moment they're pleasing no one. If you go on trans reddit, they hate the Guardian & BBC due to a few critical things being published by each.

Not while Viner's in charge, I think.

The excellent Audrey Ludwig made this comment - hard agree

Good point about Roma girls. Like boys, they are often withdrawn from school earlier and overlooked so guides being open could potentially be very helpful to some who could go

It's such a bad faith piece. It is a single-sex space that has nothing to do with how "gender-neutral" the activities are. The two can and indeed should co-exist. You have to accept her ridiculous beliefs for the whole thing to even vaguely make sense.

@Arran2024 Maybe, but not inevitably, I went to a girls' (state, Catholic) school for the majority of my secondary education and it has had very much the opposite effect on me.

I do read and often still enjoy the Guardian but last year I googled as many of the regular writers as I could to see where they were educated and was really shocked to see that only a tiny minority didn't go to Oxbridge. Not in line with their branding at all and I resent some of these people preaching to me honestly when I feel like I am far more in touch with the actual world than they are.

Yes, I like Marina Hyde usually but I was surprised to find out she's the daughter of a baronet. Wonder how many others there are...🤔

She has made some comments about her school - something like "you think all girl spaces are kind?!"
