How about anyone with a Y chromosome is banned from women’s elite sports. Is that simpler and easier to understand? Yes there are some males with a DSD who don’t have the same attributes as other males. Unfortunately that means that, as a result of their genetic code, they will never be able to be elite athletes. That also applies to the vast, vast majority of the population - a point which seems rather lost as some people whine about inclusion. The Olympics isn’t an inclusive event.

Sharron Davies said that women’s sport currently receives 5% of total sports funding - but female athletes are still expected to share that with some men who aren’t good enough to compete in the men’s events?

Or have the Y chromosome athletes compete as men. Simples.

Individuals with 5-ard and pais will be excluded from elite gender-affected sport because they won't be good enough to compete in the male/open class but can't safely or fairly be included in the female class.

I dont understand. Are you saying that these conditions mean that the SRY gene test (I think it is called) would be inconclusive and not be able to say someone was biologically male or female?

Personally I think we have a good case for 5ard and pais sportsmen to have a category at the Paralympics which they'll have a hissy fit at the prospect of for various reasons. Some of them pretty discriminatory.

However the point remains that disabled athletes are extremely unlikely to ever make it to the Olympics but no one has a shit fit about this.

Hard agree. Not ‘or’, but ‘and’

ie, anyone with a Y chromosome is banned from women’s sport and is able to compete in men’s sport

As usual they go with the big lie that transgender people are subject to a blanket ban.

The IOC’s new guidelines, announced on Friday, mandate genetic sex tests for all athletes competing in its women’s categories, as well as blanket bans of people who identify as transgender, intersex or with sex differences.

This comes out every time single-sex spaces or sports are discussed. Even Sean Ingle's article doesn't get this right, saying:

The International Olympic Committee has banned transgender women and DSD athletes from the female category of events at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and future Games.

I'm assuming that female athletes with DSDs are not actually banned from the female category. I usually assume that this kind of statement is deliberate misinformation, but I think in Ingle's article it may be because a slip.

The test will show that they are males and so can no longer unfairly compete as females despite having their sex misidentified in infancy and therefore in some cases ‘raised as girls’.

But whereas these males could unfairly beat elite women they have no more athletic prowess than any other man, and doubtless in some cases less. Well, so what? There are many genetic/developmental factors which mean an individual will never be an elite athlete! Peoples thinking has become clouded because the misidentification ever allowed males with DSDs to compete as females.

This Telegraph article does it too, starting with the headline: Olympics announces transgender ban in all women’s sport Exclusive: Ruling will also prohibit women with differences in sexual development, and going on to refer to The blanket ban on transgender and intersex competitors in women’s sport

Olympics announces transgender ban in all women’s sport

Exclusive: Ruling will also prohibit women with differences in sexual development and is almost certain to filter down to individual sports

Thanks for clarification.

So athletes will be tested to get the biological evidence of whether they are male or female.

Yes, of course. What else could the purpose of this test be?

GriseldaandMike · 30/03/2026 18:43

Gosh why can't the IOC just be kiinnnnddd and ask people who want to complete as women if they like pink and if they have a twirly skirt? That way those are the very bestest at womaning will be in and any rubbish women who don't like laydee things will be out and so they won't offend the sensitive ones with lady feelings with a lack of lipstick or wearing of trousers. That will go a huge way to knocking the stereotypes on the head.

moto748e · 30/03/2026 20:01

The IOC are now playing fair. It's other sports orgs that are the concern.
