The IOC is making an announcement today. Here is the Youtube link for the live stream.

15.15 UK time. Let's hope it is the speculated announcement that they have decided to exclude any male person who has undergone androgenisation at puberty.

Fantastic news for women. What a result!

I'm liking the fight back by some on Twitter. With not much material to work with they're going for "you do realise this aligns you with Trump don't you?"

It’s a bit scary to realise that I have a view in common with Trump; I NEVER thought that I’d be saying that 🙈

nauticant · 26/03/2026 16:13

You'll just have to accept that this makes you evil.

It's conflicting isn't it. Especially when you remember that the only reason he knows what a woman is is because he likes to sexually assault them.

Because it's not a view, it's a simple objective fact.

Something he's got in common with the TWAW shitheads. Male assault in female spaces is fine by them if the man says he's a woman. They know who the women are too.

About bloody time! Not soon enough for all those robbed of medals, records, podium moments, sponsorship deals and places in history though.

And a message to Parkrun UK - COME THE FUCK ON

334bu · 26/03/2026 16:20

About time. How on earth did we ever get to a point where people could publicly state that men were no stronger than women , call anyone who disagreed a bigot and then be acclaimed in the media as enlightened progressives ???

QAOPspaceman · 26/03/2026 16:20

A great day for fair sport, looks like a really comprehensive ruling. Retrospective recognition for the athletes who’ve been robbed of medals would be a good follow-up

Excellent news

I am sure trans reddit is responding well

The fellas over there are having the usual conniptions.

It’s literal genocide and a political decision to appease Trump.

They keep bringing up Michael Phelps, which makes me want to bang my head against a wall. Michael Phelps is an able-bodied man competing in the able-bodied men's category. How is that remotely comparable to a male athlete competing in the female category?

Helleofabore · 26/03/2026 16:24

Loved the answer from Jane Thornton's answer to Tracy Holmes' question about the SRY gene.

Jane Thornton stated clearly that the SRY gene does not 'predict' sporting outcome, but it does predict the development of testes and testosterone. And may need further testing if the body doesn't process the testosterone.

We will see that point of Tracy Holmes' repeated aplenty I predict.

Right - IOC only has jurisdiction over the Olympics. Just as international governing bodies (e.g. World Athletics) only have jurisdiction over international (non-Olympic) comps, and national governing bodies (e.g. UK Athletics) only have jurisdiction over national comps.

But regulations often (not always) flow down, so domestic bodies end up adopting the regulations of international bodies, which end up adopting olympic regs.

Not always the case though - US Cycling still permits males to race in female races for domestic competition, even though this is banned by the UCI for international competition.

And British Cycling banned males from female domestic competition a year before the UCI did so at international level.

Why would you invest money in an athlete in an Olympic eligible sport if they aren't eligible for that Olympic classification?

The UK effectively invests about £1million into the Olympic development programme for every Olympic Medal we win. It's a lot of money. They partly base this on past performance in an event and a failure to convert into an Olympic medal means they defund that sport as it hasn't produced the results expected.

So the UK Olympic programme isn't going to put money into individual athletes who aren't going to produce results. The same will be true of other countries.

It means women won't lose out to men going forward. It almost certainly won't be just for 2028. The length of the Olympic cycle and team development is huge. They are already training the stars for 2032 and 2036 now. This decision isn't just about Los Angeles and Trump.

This will have knock on effects for sponsorship. Sponsors aren't going to be interested in athletes who aren't going to qualify for the Olympics. So sponsorship money will go to women.

Tbh is it worth investing in an athlete who has a question mark over them at this point? The process of taking their case to court will be financially prohibitive for most individuals and countries. It's only those who are currently high profile, where it might be worth pursuing to the death.

This isn't about excluding anyone. Men are still eligible for men's sport. This is about protecting the integrity of women's sport. There's no little to be gained from trying to push through someone who has a DSD.

Where there will be concerns is around labs and getting dodgy results through dodgy deals etc. Given the lengths Russia has gone to with this, it's actually not as wild as it sounds.

Context of why Russia got banned:
The scandal involved the manipulation of urine samples at the WADA-accredited Moscow laboratory, including the use of a "disappearing positive methodology" and the physical swapping of tainted samples for clean ones via a "mouse hole" with the help of the Russian secret service, the FSB.

He's got the perfect swimmer's body (being a man means he gets a wingspan, hand and foot size and hip arrangement that beats any woman; the fastest swimmer's body is a male one, quelle surprise), therefore men can be women.

They basically argue that because top athletes are built well for their sport, it's no different to a man having a man's build in a women's competition. Don't talk to them about the overwhelming advantage of a male build in terms of haemoglobin levels, bone density, fast twitch muscle, body fat percentage, Q angle and all the rest of it. Don't talk to them about how without protected female categories there would be no female champions. Don't talk to them about how elite women still only beat much, much lower ranking men. Michael Phelps has flipper sized hands and feet, therefore women can have knobs and men should be allowed in women's competitions but they still need to be called women's competitions.

I'm done with the stupid.

let’s see Khelif take on a male in their next boxing match.

I hope Khelif will take a sex test so that everyone will have no excuse to claim that he is actually a poor hard done by 'she' but I suspect a career ending training injury will occur and we will never get to prove that the IOC was complicit in letting men punch women knowing that they had up to 100% advantage.

murasaki · 26/03/2026 16:34

Boxing very recently let Lin back in, I wonder if they'll back track now.

I really struggled with him on so many levels. Regardless of thinking he's a woman he cant have that little self awareness to know that he can really, really hurt his female competitors? It's like me as a (light) weight lifting adult saying I'll fight a a non weight lifting 16 year old.

HPFA · 26/03/2026 16:39

The best response to the Phelps argument is to point out that there is a female Phelps, Katie Ledecki.

Ledecki would not win medals without a female category.

So a situation where Phelps gets his just rewards in terms of medals but Ledecki doesn't is just pure sexism writ large.

The Phelps Defence has been (mis)used for years. Phelps has physical features (body dimensions, joint flexibility etc) that made swimming the perfect sport for him, but that’s the same for sport at any elite level - and other factors such as access to coaching and training facilities, parental support, financial support etc, make a huge difference to athletes reaching their potential.

They always seem to forget the Phelps swam against other male Olympic swimmers, who would also have bodies that were very well suited to to elite swimming (if not quite as well suited as Phelps). It wasn't one perfect formed for swimming body v Dave the computer guy, Ian from accounts and Trevor the trucker.

it's also disrespectful to Phelps as it underplays all the hard work he did and the sacrifices he made to become an Olympic champion.
