Welcome to the Bluestocking women's pub. Men are directed to the Staunch Ally just down the road. Otherwise all are welcome. Pull up a chair, give your order to the Wait Gerbil or the Gerbil behind the bar.

Don't forget to name change if you wish to.

Magpiecomplex · 01/04/2026 18:37

Thanks ladies. They have absolutely outdone themselves today. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Oh. Magpie, having worked in a school I feel your pain.

I'm sending Geranium over with the hot chocolate bowser.

By the looks of things, you'd better make that room service, Edith😕

Exam time approaching and they haven't done the work?
Complete misunderstanding, en bloc, of what they were supposed to be doing for a key assignment?
Just being such bloody idiots that they should all be sent back to Y1 to start all over again?

All of the above, plus more. Thank goodness we break up tomorrow.

Those two at the back with towels are going to be in there hugging her next. They look on the verge of tears.

They're her personal cheerleaders - they really care.

I love the little magpie cake decorations. The AI is getting quite inventive.

That phone case is very pretty.

Following my 11 years ago theme, 11 years ago I collected the dog crate from the vet, and its contents, a rather groggy little cat who had been declared definitely male, whose nasty infected bite had been cleaned, whose large wurrum burden (he used to live with hedgehogs, they carry weird stuff) had been zapped, and whose testicles had gone where they could no longer lead him astray.

Over the next few days he happily ate his antibiotics and purred at me and the dogs and at Hector and at my mother and even at my father, who by that stage didn't know who or what anything was, except for our new little friend who was pronounced 'a very nice cat'. Quite possibly his last words, he had two weeks left.

I've been reminding Booboo of it today, and singing him a 'happy Oscar day to you' song, and he's been drooling with happiness. Such a darling boy.

And, after a couple of coffee morning Wednesdays of cheese scones I varied the menu with tea brack; that vanished astonishingly fast. Will do that again. Though we are all getting a bit impatient for the pub to re-open so we can go back there. The rumour mill has produced a second potential new owner-manager, but no dates.

I love your cat story, Deano, he's a lucky little cat to have found such a loving human, and it's lovely that he made that connection with your father Smile
So it's his sort-of-birthday today? He shares it with Mr Walrus!
And both of them are being spoilt today, I gather🍾🎂🎉🎈😺

I don’t think that’s AI. It’s real.

Wow!

Definitely not AI.

At least 193 years old though! Wow.

RIP Jonathan, what an incredible age.

He lived on St Helena? If he'd been born a bit earlier, he'd have met Napoleon!

That reminds me of the song The Isle of St Helena:

Now Bony he has gone from his wars all a-fightin'
He has gone to the place where he takes no delight in.
And there he may sit down and tell the sights he's seen of
When full long doth he mourn on the Isle of St. Helena.
...........
So you that have wealth, beware of ambition
For some twist of fate could soon change your condition.
Be steadfast in time, what's to come change you cannot
For maybe your race will end on the Isle of St. Helena.

I love that the Gerbil Emergency Magpie Support team have immediately abandoned Gillian's class in order to support Magpie.

The GEMS team is an elite squad of the best trained Bluestocking gerbils, specifically selected to work undercover (including enduring Gillian's exercise regime), to support Magpie in her hour of need.

Much like the SAS, the GEMS have been rumoured to exist, but have never been seen in operation until now. I understand that the mild-mannered Maud is actually their commander and has been training them for weeks months years. Given that Magpie’s stress levels have increased significantly in the last few weeks, they have been drilling daily, using the excuse of Gillian’s exercise regime to mask their true intent.

Now is their time to shine.

Gillian is fortunately oblivious, assuming her class has been full of enthusiastic gerbils wanting to get fit, rather than a training regime for a crack military team.

Let’s not disillusion her.

😏

'Youse' is 'Ye' in rural Ireland and 'Yiz' in Dublinese.

And I've even heard 'ye' having a possessive form:
'Have ye had yeer tea?'

Happy birthday to Mr Walrus, and it's lovely to know that our Myrtle is enjoying the day too, including taming Virgin Media🍾

Sorry but I am struggling with catching up. Down my way some people use "ee" in place of "you". It is common to say "Thank ee" or "I will see ee tomorrow".

I had a pair of magpies sitting in my winter honeysuckle today. Don't think they can be thinking of nesting there - it's less than 6ft. Maybe they were looking for twigs?

WearyAuldWumman · 01/04/2026 22:40

flexes muscles

I managed a Farmer's Carry with a total of 36kg today. You're supposed to be able to carry around 70% of your ideal body weight, so I'm nearly there.

She looks so commanding.

What's the medal for? Has she been in battle? If so when did she find the time?

It was for this. She said it was some sort of rescue mission; but beyond that, her furry little lips were sealed.

Ee be Dorset, if I remember rightly?

The song 'Linden Lea' was originally written in Dorset dialect, or at least the writer's version of it:
’Ithin the woodlands, flow’ry gleäded,
By the woak tree’s mossy moot,
The sheenèn grass-bleädes, timber sheäded,
Now do quiver under voot;

Does that sound right if you read it out loud, JanesLittleGirl?
