I know as an ex leftie I'm not supposed to approve of Rod Liddle but I do like his turn of phrase (hope share token works as usually they don't for me).

Lots of good stuff but pissed off with the punching down on teachers. And yes, it's punching down. We're not a 'gullible lot', we're mostly women often raising society's children and getting the boot put in from all angles. Having to listen to complaints that there aren't enough men in schools, and when there is one they're treated like gods and promoted to senior leadership within a couple of years. Every day thousands of teachers quietly explain to children (most of whom enter school full of 'boys do this and that's for girls'), that boys and girls can like whatever they want. It just doesn't make headlines and they have to do it quietly, as everything they do is judged by fucking everyone.

God, that felt good.

I know a couple of teachers and it's a job I simply could not do, you have my respect and my sympathy!

I googled 'why is Rod Liddle bad' and got a lot of Guardian articles back, and I used to read the Guardian, so that explains that I think...

Maybe it was this. I agree with you that previous 'right wing loons' like Liddle and Toby Young now appear to be the voice of sanity.

Rod Liddle: Maybe I was wrong to say I wouldn't sleep with Harriet

The former Today editor turned Sunday Times columnist Rod Liddle greets me with the words: "I have headlice. You know - nits." So, I smile to myself, there is a God. And He is a feminist.

Having read the whole article I've realised Liddle was originally a Labour supporter with 'interesting' views on feminism.

Each to their own, but I can't support someone who was cautioned for assault against his partner who was pregnant at the time, or his lenient attitude towards a teacher who groomed a pupil. However much I might agree with some of what he says about the trans "debate", I suspect we come at it from very different angles.

To be honest I think the struggle is over and I just have to accept I'm a (small 'c') conservative now 😁

In many areas these days small c conservative knocks progessive outta the park, but certainly where women's rights are concerned

That'll be it.

Having reflected on the Standard article, I've realised that he reminds me of Kingsley Amis - and now I am similarly conflicted about the funniness of the writing, and the awfulness of the man.

What i detest most about the whole gender ideology shitshow is that it turned all the people i previously liked into morons amd all the people I previously hated into voices of reason.

Well, that and the whole sterilising and mutilation of kids, the men in female spaces especially prisons and refuges and rape crisis centres and toilets and sports and gyms and races and the wearing of fetish gear to work. All that too.

Yep.

I know. It’s a horrible position to be in

There are some real laugh out loud moments in that article! Both the author and Liddle are very funny but, annoyingly, it doesn't say who the author is. Do you know who she is?

Replying to earlier posts - "Screaming Mimis" is WW2 slang.

These are the original screaming mimis.

german screaming mimis firing

If you heard the screaming mimis they might give you the screaming mimis - or even the screaming habdabs

😱😂

Come to think of it I'm not actually sure why I'm not supposed to approve of Rod Liddle, it's just a kind of folk memory, I'll have to research his misdeeds.

Probably at least partly that time in 2005 when he was arrested & cautioned after physically assaulting his pregnant (now ex-) girlfriend. Or his 2006 Spectator article with the charming gems below, or quite a number of other times when a tart turn of phrase & an ability to meet a deadline seemed the only possible excuses to publish him.
