I know as an ex leftie I'm not supposed to approve of Rod Liddle but I do like his turn of phrase (hope share token works as usually they don't for me).

Sorry it didn't work for me. 🤷‍♀️

I was able to back track it and I put in the Archive web site, this is the Times website info that can be used.

We are almost back to sanity in schools, thanks to JK Rowling and co

Tug gently on a thread of the ideology and it comes apart like a jumper knitted by an imbecile

What i detest most about the whole gender ideology shitshow is that it turned all the people i previously liked into morons amd all the people I previously hated into voices of reason.

Well, that and the whole sterilising and mutilation of kids, the men in female spaces especially prisons and refuges and rape crisis centres and toilets and sports and gyms and races and the wearing of fetish gear to work. All that too.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 15/02/2026 10:54

"..and the bravery shown by individuals who have been subjected to the most appalling abuse by the screaming mimis of the trans lobby and the blank-faced progressive commissars "

Such a great take, I wish I could write so fluently. 😁

I couldn't find out what mimis means but I took it to mean Zombies or something. 😂

(Oops cross posts, thanks but I got there in the end 😁)

PachacutisBadAuntie · 15/02/2026 11:05

I particularly like this:
"As ever with intersectional delusions, you tug gently on a thread of the ideology and the whole thing comes apart, like a pink mohair jumper knitted by an imbecile."

He definitely has a good turn of phrase

“When theory becomes an impediment to action, it is time to discard the theory and return naked, that is, without theory, to the world of reality. People become slaves to theory because people are used to meeting expectations they have not originated—to doing what they are told, to having everything mapped out, to having reality prepackaged. People can have antiauthoritarian intention and yet function in a way totally consonant with the demands of authority. The deepest struggle is to root out of us and the institutions in which we participate the requirement that we slavishly conform. But an adherence to ideology, any ideology, can give us the grand illusion of freedom when in fact we are being manipulated and used by those whom the theory serves.”
― Andrea Dworkin, Letters from a War Zone

I found this quote a few years ago and it applied to other things I have observed and been part of and was thinking about. It's not quite a perfect fit here but I often think about how it applies to your first paragraph, and the internal struggle it generates.

PachacutisBadAuntie · 15/02/2026 11:11

I think Rod read the mimis study guide too:

"The message of this story is
that acceptance shouldn’t be
experienced by trying to be
something or someone we
aren’t. Accepting our weaknesses
may help us discover our strengths,
but pursuing our weaker skills may
lead to being lost forever.
In this story the father loves his
son regardless of his weaknesses.
When the boy leaves, the camp
loses some of its much needed
diversity."

To be honest I think the struggle is over and I just have to accept I'm a (small 'c') conservative now 😁

In the context of womens rights, having won them wanting to conserve them seems perfectly reasonable to me 🙂

I still struggle, it's fecking maddening, but I'm not going to give any sort of authoritarianism a free pass no matter what it calls itself.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 15/02/2026 11:45

Thanks for finding the Mimis, it is a good metaphor. 😁

Oo that’s like me with toilets! I looked at what actually went on in them. Being safe is not conducive to inclusive design which is based on theory.

After a bit of trawling through Urban Dictionary (that ahem well-known scientifically founded and reliable source) I found this:

”a person who is very self-involved and constantly talks about themselves, their likes, their hobbies etc. while never really listening or caring about anything the person they are talking to has to say unless it related to them (the mimi). This person absolutely despises talkative persons because she hates having to listen to other people and it takes up time that they (the mimi) could be using to talk about themselves.

Classic signs of the mimi are:

  1. no eye contact while listening
  2. someone who talks over you when they realize you're about to talk so that you shut up
  3. someone who rambles on and on even though the person they are talking to is clearly not listening.”

Sounds more like it than ethereal Australian spirits.

Interesting choices of pronoun in that main paragraph, though. They - they - they - they - they - she - they - they …

Urban Dictionary: talking to

talking to: flirting with, probibly through texting or in real life at school. most likely resulting in a relationship

I couldn't find out what mimis means but I took it to mean Zombies or something. 😂

I took it to be the same as a "screaming queen" - overly camp, attention seeking men cosplaying as a caricature of women.

This is so true! I really enjoy listening to Rod Liddell on times radio. I do t always agree with him.

My reply, “hidden until MN can take a look at it”, contained a link to an Urban Dictionary definition of “MiMi” as someone that makes every conversation all about them, talks over other people incessantly, etc. Your definition makes much more sense given the context, though!

Just because he's GC doesn't detract from the fact that he's human garbage.

Screamingabdabz · 15/02/2026 14:58

You know that Rod Liddle is a member of the Labour Party?

I think he speaks utter sense every week.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 15/02/2026 15:06

I'm open to changing my mind on mimis, screaming drama lama's, me me type's, Zombie Apocalypse, they all fit. 😂

Oh is RL not an 'approved source', we can't listen to someone who doesn't past the purity test, oh deary no. 🙄

Come to think of it I'm not actually sure why I'm not supposed to approve of Rod Liddle, it's just a kind of folk memory, I'll have to research his misdeeds.

I had a quick look. He is certainly not very 'pure'.

He had a run in with Trans Media Watch in 2015 who had their complaint held up by the PCC.

He really doesn't like Jolyon. 🤣

SisterTeatime · 15/02/2026 17:06

He talks sense on this issue. I don’t have to agree with him about everything, or indeed anything, else to agree with him on this.
