The Liberal Democrats are hosting quite the Fringe event at their upcoming conference in March

Liberal Voice for Women

Sex, Equality and the Law

Last April the Supreme Court clarified the meaning of ‘woman’ in the Equality Act. Nearly one year on, has anyone listened? This panel will
cut through the dithering and flanelling by the Labour government and discuss why the judgment matters and what organisations should do.

With Susan Smith (For Women Scotland), Akua Reindorf KC and Maya Forstater (Sex Matters).

Novotel, Meeting Room 1&2

Congratulations to everyone who made this happen 👏. Its about time political parties stopped sticking their head in the sand

Wow. How on earth did that get arranged? The Lib Dem membership will not like it!

I'm sure there'll be a big fuss when people notice.

MyPearlViper · 08/02/2026 14:14

Well, they have had a few TRA issues, notably Ian Bristow and Sean Macleod.

Had to revise their 'definition of transphobia' as it was illegal. So was their trans-women-count-as-women-on-committees quota policy, that had to go. Paid a lot of money to a gender critical woman for discriminating against her.

But perhaps the most egregious misstep was giving a prestigious award for women to a man.

I think the grass-roots have had enough.

Cue lots of tantrumming about being made to feel unsafe....

Kudos top Liberal voice for women!

ArabellaScott · 08/02/2026 14:48

Oh, fantastic. 😁

ArabellaScott · 08/02/2026 14:54

No response from Libdem Voice as yet.

I await eagerly!

Wow!

Iamnotalemming · 08/02/2026 17:36

Gosh that is a surprise. I had written them off as a party. I will watch with interest!

Bertiebiscuit · 08/02/2026 17:42

And that is how we know that all so called "trans women" are men, their male pattern violence when they can't get their own way is so male typical. Vile

MyPearlViper · 08/02/2026 17:58

Isn't it awful that my first thought on seeing this was - I hope the security arrangements will be good enough?

I hope their fringe event gets fully booked, maybe a high attendance at such an event might cut through the stranglehold the rainbow mafia has on the top positions and we can get a change of direction back to reality.

ProfessorRedshoeblueshoe · 08/02/2026 18:10

wow

Igmum · 08/02/2026 18:28

Brilliant event. Here’s hoping that the normal LibDem members are just as GC as the rest of us and attend in large numbers. Then maybe the higher ups in the party will take note. Well, at least until the next drugs company wants to donate.

EdithStourton · 08/02/2026 20:32

Bloody hell!

If this carries on, I might have to consider rejoining.

And well done that woman for getting compensation from them.

Wow. How on earth did that get arranged? The Lib Dem membership will not like it!

I'm sure there'll be a big fuss when people notice.

The LibDem TRAs who have managed to take control of the majority of committee seats and positions of power in the party, and are the majority of those who turn up to conferences, won't like it at all. The Party members, however, according to professional polling commissioned by Liberal Voice for Women, have views that closely match those of the electorate at large - in other words, they are generally on the sensibly terfy side of these issues. Many of them in local branches are probably largely unaware of how far off the rails the party has gone on this stuff, or are wary of speaking out because of the reaction they may get. And of course, many (mostly probably women) have walked away because of it. But LVW are at least inside the doors now, and are growing in numbers and visibility. Among the epithets thrown at them (nazis, bigots, all the usual) is now "exceptionally well organised".

PriOn1 · 09/02/2026 07:34

Well I didn’t see that coming!

I hope this proves to be the start of a significant change (and not the occasion of something appalling occurring).

There is some indication that, when things don’t go their way, that TRAs have a tendency to flounce, assuming everything will crash without them. I would love for them to do so here, thus leaving me with a party I could vote for again.

thirdfiddle · 09/02/2026 08:21

Ooh, I've left the green party now, looking for a new political home - I was a libdem voter until they said openly that they didn't want GC votes. Come.on lib dems. There are a lot of disillusioned labour and green voters out there who want to keep Reform out without compromising their values.

ArabellaScott · 09/02/2026 08:27

I'd be on Libdems like a flash if they came to their senses. Although the egregiousness of what has been done needs to be acknowledged to ensure it never happens again.

Cynically, I'm wondering whether Ferring has decided UK politocal parties are no longer worth courting.

BezMills · 09/02/2026 08:27

I've floated about between Labour, Liberals and the Greens. I'd love the LDs to be a party I want to vote for again, and this is an encouraging move.

RhannionKPSS · 09/02/2026 08:57

Well, this is interesting…let se if it actually happens.
Just a reminder that the Lib Dems took a lot of money from big pharmaceutical and Ed Davey utterly betrayed sub post masters.

Mootzler · 09/02/2026 09:01

Oooh I actually scared away a LibDem doorstepper - the only sort we ever get - by saying I wouldn't vote for them because of their anti-women agenda, Layla Moran etc. He ran, fast. And our shiny new LD MP emailed later to say he didn't believe in women's rights, not those exact words but that's what it meant. I might email him back asking if he's going to go to this.

ArabellaScott · 09/02/2026 09:09

I had a look at conference plan. LVW have got a great spot on the main floor. Circled in purple.

I had a wee look to see who is nearby - I guess years of women being heckled and harangued makes you wary.

The stand that may be expected to cause trouble is miles away. LGBT Libdems is stand number one. It's right at the entrance.

Pic attached with no comment.

According to a friend of a friend, LVW had to resort to lawyers and legal threats to be allowed a conference stand and fringe meeting.

That doesn't surprise me at all.

So LibDem friends of Israel and friends of Palestine can manage to rub along together, but women's voices talking about UK law are just beyond the pale?

Absurd.

Ah, well, that changes things a bit.
Not exactly a huge surprise, but yet another disappointment...
