The Liberal Democrats are hosting quite the Fringe event at their upcoming conference in March

Liberal Voice for Women

Sex, Equality and the Law

Last April the Supreme Court clarified the meaning of ‘woman’ in the Equality Act. Nearly one year on, has anyone listened? This panel will
cut through the dithering and flanelling by the Labour government and discuss why the judgment matters and what organisations should do.

With Susan Smith (For Women Scotland), Akua Reindorf KC and Maya Forstater (Sex Matters).

Novotel, Meeting Room 1&2

Congratulations to everyone who made this happen 👏. Its about time political parties stopped sticking their head in the sand

I had a look at conference plan. LVW have got a great spot on the main floor. Circled in purple.

I had a wee look to see who is nearby - I guess years of women being heckled and harangued makes you wary.

The stand that may be expected to cause trouble is miles away. LGBT Libdems is stand number one. It's right at the entrance.

Pic attached with no comment.

By the first aid room, very handy, when they see how many people are attending the fringe event they'll all start having the vapours. 😂

I'd be on Libdems like a flash if they came to their senses. Although the egregiousness of what has been done needs to be acknowledged to ensure it never happens again.

Cynically, I'm wondering whether Ferring has decided UK politocal parties are no longer worth courting.

Given last week's detransitioner lawsuit in the State of New York, I would expect lots of big pharma firms have been revising their gender-related profits

I see they laid off 500 staff last October. Approx 7% of workforce.

Am I the only person who is childishly amused by the LGBT stand being between the male single sex toilet and the accessible toilet and at the opposite end of the entrance to the female single sex toilet?

ArabellaScott · 09/02/2026 21:22

It was the giant MAN sign that had amused me, tbh.

LeftieRightsHoarder · 10/02/2026 08:45

I’m glad they’re allowing feminists to have a stall. But it will take a lot more than that to make me even start revising my low opinion of the Lib Dems.

fanOfBen · 10/02/2026 08:56

Step in the right direction, but pity they had to be pushed into it. I'm also an ex-LibDem member who'd love to be able to vote for them again. Or anyone, really.

RhannionKPSS · 09/02/2026 08:57

Well, this is interesting…let se if it actually happens.
Just a reminder that the Lib Dems took a lot of money from big pharmaceutical and Ed Davey utterly betrayed sub post masters.

To be fair, if you couldn't align with a party for some unpleasant, or dodgy action in the past, you'd have to give up voting.

Oooh I actually scared away a LibDem doorstepper - the only sort we ever get - by saying I wouldn't vote for them because of their anti-women agenda, Layla Moran etc. He ran, fast. And our shiny new LD MP emailed later to say he didn't believe in women's rights, not those exact words but that's what it meant. I might email him back asking if he's going to go to this.

I did the same - told him no he couldn't have my vote, and BTW I'd just voted Tory for the first time in my life because Mr Libdem was the only realistic alternative and his party is anti women's rights.

He mumbled some bs about it 'takes all sorts' - wish I'd had the presence of mind to say something pertinent back.

MyPearlViper · 10/02/2026 15:45

The rumour is that they dont have a box to tick for encounters with voters around sex and gender ideology, so that means it doesn't crop up in their door-knocking reports

Running scared of finding out what voters really think on the issue. Why am I not surprised? The capture of the LibDems really saddens me as I used to feel at home with them and was even a member for a while. I voted Liberal or LibDem at every single general election from 1970 to 2024 when I cast my first vote for the Tories. Annoyingly, after a major constituency boundary change, we've ended up with a left-wing, hardline TRA, Labour MP, who has yet to even acknowledge my letters to him, let alone reply to them. 😬

Sounds very plausible.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/02/2026 17:11

Maybe people should start videoing the canvassing attempts.

Seriestwo · 10/02/2026 19:37

If my candidate went to this event I’d vote for him. He doesn’t even need to agree, but he’d need to go and listen in order for me to give him my vote.

Thanks for the link, it looks like a rock star line up, I expect the sound of the LibDems imploding will be heard all over the country on Friday the 13th in March. 😂

No, but I sent her two tickets.

ProfPerformativeBewildermentOBE · 22/02/2026 19:46

Silly question, but do you have to be a member to attend?

I am not far from York and would love to hear this line up, but I’m not a LD member and based on their general batshittery am not likely to sign up.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 22/02/2026 20:13

Excellent - I have bought an online ticket. Not a member (I am a former one) - no membership question was asked.
