Just seen this article in the Herald Sun (based in Melbourne, VIC) but unfortunately I don't have an account so I'm trying to find out more.

I do love the way they've highlighted the front page headline! And there are a lot of comments which I would love to read but can't.

I find the Australian situation fascinating, given their laws in respect of trans are different from the UK's.

The NHS was prepared to pay a private surgeon, but he declined.

This annoys me when I look at how often diagnostic tests or treatments for various conditions are withheld or delayed from patients due to funding.

I think that this Victorian government has a lot to answer for. This has been appallingly managed and the man who has sexually attacked a woman was released. There seems to be little confidence that Corrections has prioritised victim care here.

What strikes me is the Herald Sun desperately not using female pronouns for this man. And the result is some unclear sentences that have to be reread.

I consider this a good example of why trying to use neutral pronouns also doesn’t work to produce clear messages.

It constantly amazes me that not one Australian newspaper, even the non-woke Murdoch ones, have fully broken ranks with the Australian Press Council trans guidelines.

I’m even more amazed that a newspaper in the UK such as the Daily Mail still follow the UK’s similar guidelines.

Surely there is an editor somewhere in the world who can go, “you know what- fuck this. We will call a man a man and publish and be damned”.

The man being discussed on this thread IS a heterosexual man.

One very simple way to protect women from assault by heterosexual men is to stop allowing them to blithely wander at will into women only spaces just because they declare they are also women now really want to.
If this man had been told "no" then he wouldn't have been able to assault the woman he did.
He should never have been there.
