Well said, Tom!

I think the correct spelling is Hand Maiden. What a waste of space (to put it kindly).
I like the idea of FoIs on the review process.

More inertia in the City while 'waiting for the guidance'

The local elections are over now, although not the fallout. What will be her next excuse?

To no-one's great surprise, I imagine. Shows the level of capture in businesses today, though.

I did a depressing count up of school staff who’ve put hidden cameras in school toilets in the U.K. today. A headteacher, a deputy head, primary school teachers, secondary school teachers, a caretaker. It is in double figures and will have affected hundreds of children and staff. There’s a factor common with the staff who did this. Guess what it is?

Doctors are another profession in which several have had an urge to put hidden cameras in toilets too. Guess which common attribute they share with the teaching staff that did this?

Please explain more about this, with links. ( I am asking for genuine reasons.)

Hi
Annoyingly I can’t find the list at the moment, but it was all done through googling. I am at work so will look later.

This is a bit off topic, so I ask for forgiveness 🙏

Yesterday, my nephew called round with his girlfriend of seven years. They are both resident doctors in the NHS, struggling to take the next steps to specialisation. I had never met her before and really like her. She's articulate, grounded and a lovely person. When we were talking about the NHS, I asked how they were briefed as clinicians to deal with trans issues, making clear my negative feelings as a woman about terms like 'chest feeding'.

To my surprise, the girlfriend said they were encouraged not to talk about it and clamped her mouth shut. It was an odd moment in an afternoon of constant and easy conversation. I didn't press her, it being our first meeting, but I've been reflecting on it. Is something sinister going on? Or, more optimistically, has the NHS come to its senses and is taking steps to lower the temperature, to use a medical metaphor?

OhBuggerandArse · 08/05/2026 12:41

Or, (sorry), she is a believer in trans ideology but didn't want to fall out with you about it?

Chersfrozenface · 08/05/2026 12:48

Encouraged by managers not to talk about it to whom?

The general public? In case the general public find out what the NHS is up to and don't like it?

ArtShow · 08/05/2026 13:48

I think if you're in the NHS the best policy is not to have a GC opinion. Most Drs have been trained in being kind and trans identity

Would that be a belief in biology and facts by any chance, the very things which matter most in treating people correctly.

That's a possibility, certainly.

I think it would be hard to be in the NHS and not have an opinion but it would be the wise approach.

Reckon we get the guidance laid Today to bury it or Monday when the resignation speeches are on?

Well, today is David Attenborough's 100th birthday, and I believe I read that some low key festivities are planned. Could squeeze it in at the weekend?

UtopiaPlanitia · 08/05/2026 16:24

I think the Greens not doing as well as predicted in the local elections could settle the nerves for Labour (make them a bit less worried about losing votes on the Left) and make them more inclined to lay the guidance before Parliament but I'm not counting on it because Labour seems to exist to piss me off these days.

SionnachRuadh · 08/05/2026 17:54

Labour are very skilled at kicking the can down the road. If Starmer isn't forced out this weekend, then we've got the King's Speech next week when MPs won't want to disrupt government business, then if he survives another week it's Whitsun recess, then it's June and maybe the MPs won't be as angry any more.

It's very like the last days of Boris Johnson where it was just a matter of getting the boss through another day.

Bridget is following the same logic.

There was a direct quote from a government spokesperson in the Lords Monday before last explicitly saying that the guidance would be laid in May

So... May 31st then?

Ophelia, I agree, I think there is no incentive for Labour to do anything now except either replace Starmer as quickly and quietly as they possibly can, or spend the next few months propping him up with excuse after excuse , just to get them to August, and pretend we will all have forgotten about it by September.

It really is a mess for Labour. And, of course, among all the platitudes, excuses, and accusations from those who have lost, there's a lot of "we should have listened to the working people " and "we're out of touch with the people " and "we need a viable economic strategy to take us into 2029, and Keir doesn't have it" - not ONE word about having lost the confidence of millions of women. Not that I have read this evening. No mention of the word women at all.

Par for the course. Labour will always think of Labour first.

We'll either get a miracle laying of the guidance on 31 May, or the guidance will be quietly buried.

SionnachRuadh · 08/05/2026 21:25

Parliament returns on the 13th for the King's Speech, and rises on the 21st for Whitsun recess, not returning until 1st June. That sounds like a joke about MPs' working patterns, but it's just the parliamentary timetable. So Bridget has a window of about a week to lay the guidance, and if she hasn't done it by the 21st that's another firm commitment broken.

She might do it, but I wouldn't bet against her coming back with yet another Bart Simpson book report.

Pingponghavoc · 09/05/2026 01:23

I suppose a reshuffle isn't out of question. Maybe she's hoping its going to be someone else's problem?

ickky · 09/05/2026 11:08

Oh great, the same Harriet Harman who supported P.I.E. (paedophile information exchange).

Sure to be a wonderful result for Women and Girls.
