"A woman who is trans"

I've been noticing this terminology creeping in. Just thought I might highlight it, so we can keep up to date with their ever-changing attempts to control language and muddy the waters. Have you seen any in the wild?

Not a mention of the woman who’s trans, who did nothing wrong. This ruling is in direct conflict with the Gender Recognition Act. How is this happening? It is wrong on every level, and will be used to push trans people even further out of society and into danger

Trans people should expect no fair treatment or justice in the UK - the 22nd safest country in Europe to be LGBT. Biological Female 🏳️‍⚧️ Anti Free Speech.

The GLP:

On Monday 7 July, Good Law Project and a woman who is trans...

More deliberate obfuscation?

Most people hearing or reading that would think of a biological female who is a trans man, I think? Whereas India seems to be using it for men who think they’re women.

They are both using it for men who think they're women. But India and Jolyon just think that is a different type of woman. (Or at least they pretend they do 🙄)

And yes, clearly obfuscation. Especially since the SC "biological male" terminology.

I just wondered who else is doing it. We need to keep a watching brief.

That's something I realised the other day when I was vaguely musing about how I would go about defusing the situation if I entered a female single-sex space and was truly taken for a man (which is not gonna happen, hence the vague musing). It could get tricky explaining I'm female without sounding like I'm a transwoman.

And yes, "a woman who is trans," that's me, not Rose, dammit! 😡

silverwrath · 17/01/2026 13:03

Good catch.

God they're such try-hards.

But a woman who is trans is a transman. Surely?

SwirlyGates · 17/01/2026 13:05

They just keep changing their language in the hope of confusing people, because they know that clear, reality-based language will show them up as gaslighting twits.

AllThisFuss · 17/01/2026 13:09

It's their new version of "trans woman". They didn't like it when we wrote "transwoman". They went through all sorts of "Would you say blondewoman? Blackwoman?" nonsense as they thrashed around trying to pretend that men are women.

And maybe they realised that the general public were beginning to understand that "trans woman" means biological man.

So now it's "woman who is trans". Versus "woman who is cis", I assume 🙄

So is the rule of thumb that every time a transactivist says the word woman, it's a man?

The thing is, that although they claim to just want to be women, and fit in, and never be questioned, and despite all protestations to the contrary, the most important thing to them personally, IS the fact they're trans.

So even the deliberate obfuscation can't last, because unless their trans status is acknowledged at some point, they go up in a puff of smoke.

Because how on earth can they be constantly prioritised, if we don't know they're men?

Hedgehogforshort · 17/01/2026 14:50

I have stopped using the word trans altogether in conversations and say things like a man who thinks they are a woman or vis versa.

Very much so, @Datun.

Yep

The whole 2019(?) Clownfish Debate where the TRA started to claim to be female while also claiming that using the word female for women was misogyny.

He claimed to be female and so a woman or was it a woman and so female.🦧

5128gap · 17/01/2026 15:44

I'm only surprised it's taken them so long to work out that the bit you want people to take notice of needs to go first.

user1471538275 · 17/01/2026 16:11

They're believers. They're going to use the language that reflects their belief.

I am not a believer and it is important that I do not use the language of their belief system.

The problem we have is that we have been compelled to adopt their language, which has led to them assuming we share their beliefs.

It has been established that being gender critical - for me, critical of gender ideology/belief is a belief worthy of respect and that we cannot be compelled to use its language.

I think it is vital that we start doing this so that we become visible to each other and that they start to understand that they are not in the majority. Will this lead to some conflict - yes, but we must take courage and have these conversations where we make clear we accept their ability to use language that they choose and that we have the same right not to do this.

AlexandraLeaving · 17/01/2026 16:54

I ABSOLUTELY FUCKING HATE ALL THIS MESSING WITH LANGUAGE. The lack of clarity, the ongoing obfuscation really really fucks me off.

RNApolymerase · 17/01/2026 17:00

Wasn't the language confusion part of the problem with the census question?

It can affect surveys as well - if the general public are asked "should a woman who is trans be able to use the women's changing room" - how many will know exactly what is being asked?

Pingponghavoc · 17/01/2026 17:05

I think it is, in part, to claim woman as a gender, not a sex.

But even that fails because India would never call himself 'a woman who is male'.

5128gap · 17/01/2026 17:14

I think its to claim woman without a qualifier. But with the optional extra of trans at the end for occasions when it may be useful to claim additional protections on account of being 'women who have it so much harder than other women'.

Pingponghavoc · 17/01/2026 17:22

There was a trans activists a while ago trying to get into politics and had a list of identities, but didnt list trans and woman together, so appeared to be a 'trans socialist'.

So trans can be a difficult thing to just mentioned nonchalantly.

They know what they're doing. But then the general public starts to twig, so they have to find a new formulation...

Same. Clarity is needed.

deadpan · 17/01/2026 17:47

I've never understood why they say theyre proud to be trans but hide behind "woman" and "man". I know that's the way the TRAs try to obfuscate the issues, but why not celebrate who you are while still living in the real world.

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 17/01/2026 18:03

It's just the latest lie made up by the lying people, because other people were starting to get wise to their previous lies. <shrug>

I’d totally agree on reading that question I’d think they were talking about a woman who identifies as a man and they should use the female facilities.

The census question had a surprising number of people whose first language was not English identifying as Trans so it was thought that it had been confusingly written.

Yep. It’s deliberate though. If you can change language you’re half way there. It’s a power play.

OpheliaWitchoftheWoods · 17/01/2026 18:26

Yet another way to say 'man'.

It's getting silly now. It's nothing to be ashamed of!
