'Let people self-declare that they are legally male or female' says Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission

People who identify as transgender should to be allowed to legally switch from male to female (or vice-versa) on demand, the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission has said.

The commission has called on Stormont's Department of Health to change the rules accordingly, and the department in turn has pledged to "consider" the report.

It follows years of rising opposition to self-ID across the UK, and comes the wake of the UK Supreme Court judgment which delivered a blow to the self-ID movement by defining “woman” as an adult who was born female, not merely anyone who self-identifies as such.

We're going to be in a familiar situation where the loudest opponents of this are the most socially conservative parties like the Traditional Unionist Voice and the Democratic Unionist Party, who also oppose things like abortion rights, marriage equality, and even Irish culture, like bilingual signage.

It's interesting that the black and brown community point blank refuse any trans-racialism.
Just read the fascinating story of Rachel Dolezal.
We do not allow people to trans into any age they wish.
Or any disability or disease.
Yet trans, a mental illness at worst, temperament at best, is allowed to be re-defined as an identity not just mimicing the opposite sex (or no sex at all), but effectively hiving it.
Imagine that...we re-order society for those so mentally distressed they believe they are not their own inherent biology.
And we also re-order society for people who temperamentally wish to be the category they're not.

theres a lot of self identification in the neurodivergent communities where the growth of that “community” has negatively impacted on those with diagnosed/physical conditions. So that is a problem surprisingly

Right now in the US, on the right there's a major underlying political pivot to some sort of Christian renaissance, likely Catholic in theory and energy. JD Vance alongside Peter Thiel and the Cathedral. If people think Trump is terrible, they're gonna absolutely spit blood if Vance becomes President.
If my theory is right, and we are moving into post-liberalism, then the reaction to well over a decade of Great Awokening is not simply going back to the fairly relaxed 90s/00s, but something a lot more structured and authoritarian.

When the left were pitching a better future to me, I genuinely thought eg disabled people were really going to be front and centre in finally liberating a group from society disadvantaging them.
What I didn't realize was that a mental illness was going to be re-labelled as a liberation, and to realize that liberation, half the population were now going to be the ones being disadvantaged.
Imagine in a better world, where people with physical disabilities were held up en masse to break the chains of prejudice and lost potential, and those with invisible mental health conditions wouldn't be left in the shadows.
But no, it appears to embrace and hold high those encumbered with the mental health issues of body dysphoria, 51% of the population must shove over and shut their mouths.
Hmm, that's not what the left pitched to me before...

There's a discussion to be had - but not on this thread🙂 - about what 'Catholic theory and energy' means in this context - which Catholic theory and energy?

There is a long tradition in the church of being as critical of capitalism as it is of communism, for instance in the 1891 Papal Encyclical Rerum Novarum
The members of the working classes are citizens by nature and by the same right as the rich; they are real parts, living the life which makes up, through the family, the body of the commonwealth; and it need hardly be said that they are in every city very largely in the majority.
The public administration must duly and solicitously provide for the welfare and the comfort of the working classes; otherwise, that law of justice will be violated which ordains that each man shall have his due. RN33

The Catholicism I was brought up in was one of social justice, of
I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me

and I have a feeling that the Catholicism of JD Vance and co. does not take either Rerum Novarum or Matthew 25:35 as its guiding texts...

DUP and TUV lot will love that. NI can be a crazy place and this madness will just feed the fire.

Not my most elegant phrasing, lol.
Check out JD Vance, Peter Thiel and The Cathedral.
I always thought as successful reaction against The Great Awokening would be some sort of return to the kind of liberal standards we had up until a couple of decades ago.
But in my bones I think that a muscular Christian nationalism is taking shape in the US, via whatever neo-Catholicism that Vance and Thiel develop.
The fastest growing religion in America is Catholicism, both the more traditional version from the Hispanic community, and the politicized version of Vance and very rich influential white Catholic Americans.
That's why America is going post-liberal, started as Lionel Schriver says, c.2012 into the Great Awokening, and now into the reaction, initially in the person of Trump 2.0, and thence via Vance.
It's no surprise that Vance continually talks about Europe and European values dying, ostensibly manly about mass migration and the establishment of open borders to illegal immigration, but also other aspects of culture, trans ideology infecting elites governing of pretty much the whole West. America is the testbed for the reaction to these elites tenets and mantras.

Sorry not RTFT but…

So… in order to identify as the opposite sex to your sex when conceived, you’d first have to declare yourself to be transgender?

Then you can switch between sexes at will?

And no non-binaries, just male or female?

On the subject of trans age, if you want a bit of light relief, here's Emile Ratelband, a 69-year-old man who wants to legally change his age to be 20 years younger, debating trans age and transgenderism with Jane Fae (formerly John Ozimek, best known as an advocate for extreme porn).

For something more vomit inducing, google Stephonknee Wolscht, a middle-aged man who identifies as a 6-year-old girl.

The Guardian loved John Ozimek in 2008/9, what a surprise.

Identifying as a pensioner i can understand, all adult freedoms, and get free money to do so.
I don't see any benefit to identifying as a 6 yo girl, does that mean he needs 24hr childcare?

It's sexual, just as it is for middle aged males who suddenly decide they want to be women. There was another man who identified as a baby and demanded female carers to change his nappies.

People who identify as transgender should to be allowed to legally switch from male to female (or vice-versa) on demand, the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission has said.

Presumably because they think that those words mean absolutely nothing and there is no need to protect women's rights.

It's a bold move from a Human Rights Commission which, according to wikipedia, has 30 employees. They could apply the same philosophy to all the other protected characteristics and close the whole thing down by February.
