A husband and five other men have been charged with a string of sexual offences against his ex-wife over a 13-year period.

Philip Young, formerly of Swindon but now living in Enfield, has been charged with 56 sexual offences, including rape and administering a substance with intent to stupefy/overpower to allow sexual activity.

The 49-year-old has also been charged with voyeurism, possession of indecent images of children and possession of extreme images.

Five other men have also been charged with offences against his ex-wife, 48-year-old Joanne Young, who has waived her right to anonymity.

All six men are due to appear at Swindon Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Mr Young, who police described as a white British national, has been remanded in custody.

In this past year there has been the Pelicot case in France, and a recent thread on FWR about a man in Germany abusing his wife, another in Spain, and now this.

How many households is this going on in?

Tip of the iceberg I reckon.
Half a million men a month were logging into Coco.fr which is the site that Gisèle Pelicot's husband was posting rape videos of his wife on for his sadistic pleasure and that of 500,000 other perverts.

TheCooperettesShingaLing · 22/12/2025 23:43

Probably more than we know unfortunately .Online porn and file sharing has twisted some men's line of thinking and the depravity knows no bounds.

Well as the title doesn't mention the case not very obvious.

Think its really important given that MN FWR is used by search engines that something like this is made explicit.

Rather than just a general remark.

And also because it links to the Pelicot threads and the case in Germany helps spell out that this isn't as rare as people might have thought.

Half a million men per month were viewing the French website that Gisele Pelicot's husband posted rape videos of his wife on.

The website was called "a son insu" meaning "without her knowledge".
Half a million men consuming videos of women being raped by their partner while drugged.

There is likely to be many many more cases like this as it is incredibly easy for a husband/boyfriend to sedate his wife/girlfriend with prescription pills.
Pelicot drugged his wife using prescription medication.

The abundance of platforms enabling and encouraging the abuse of privacy, dignity and safety of women and children is sadly all the proof we need that men run the internet and tech world's and have a major hand in preventing their closure.
After a young South Asian woman was gang raped and set on fire the video was the most viewed on Pornhub in its history.
None of this content serves a purpose that's useful to society, in fact it encourages negative actions - to put it very mildly - and the sentences given to these men is woefully inadequate

JamesWebbSpaceTelescope · 23/12/2025 12:00

I can’t believe this thread is so quiet given it is the leading story on the bbc news today.

Poor woman and very brave to release her name, which means her husband’s name is also released.

WhereAreWeNow · 23/12/2025 12:51

Awful. Poor woman.

OutsideLookingOut · 23/12/2025 12:56

I bet many women would have prefer to think “Not my Nigel” and “Not all men” instead of that this is really scary and hard to discover.

I knew the Pelicot case would be the tip of the iceberg. I think it would be shocking to see how many men plan to do this or have done this - remember folks there was a group chat with over 7000 men discussing how to rape their wives, sisters and other family members and sharing their crimes. And that is just what was found.

Pleasantsort2 · 23/12/2025 12:59

Wt actual f is wrong with these disgusting monsters? And yes, this will is the tip of the iceberg, I fear . That poor woman. How do you get over that, ffs ? I do thing there should be women only communities but we all know what "women " would force their way into these .

Pleasantsort2 · 23/12/2025 13:00

sorry, typo *think.

I think we all know how depraved men can be, and how common such things are. Far more common than we probably imagine. What else is there to say?

orangewasp · 23/12/2025 13:07

Utterly terrifying and depressing in so may ways. I admire the victim for forgoing her right to remain anonymous to bring this into the light.

IwantToRetire · 23/12/2025 15:36

It was featured on Radio 4's 1pm news.

And they did read out the list of charges (gross) but didn't comment as now an ongoing legal case.

What is so strange in that even when there are such obvious similarities the MSM and SM will never, ever talk about the common link. Men.

If there were an online database where all reported cases of violence against women were recorded, and each day news reports started with saying how many cases, and that 99.9% were acts of violence by men, people would still not accept that it was a male problem.

People who see this thread, with its sensible clear name, can follow the link to the other thread that also has valuable conversation on it.

Tis all.

Utterly sickening and the figures of depraved men logging on to watch rape is just mind boggling.
These men must hate women but try to hide it from their wives/partners so they have a skivvy, a victim and a cover for their depravity.
It makes me literally shudder to think what these poor women have been subjected to.
There is no legal appropriate punishment for these monsters- who really don’t think they have done anything wrong. Women are objects, chattels.
Edit for spelling error

I wonder what, if anything, we could and should do to show our support for her? The support for Gisele Pelicot, with crowds of women applauding her at court every day, was heartwarming.

She's asked for her privacy to be respected. Is that code for "piss off journos"? My intuitive feeling is that it might also mean "please, no well-meaning blizzard of support postcards".

Bringemout · 23/12/2025 18:04

I think it’s the utter pornification of our societies, everything (i.e. womens bodies) is treated as entertainment. It’s utterly foul, I don’t understand how so many men are so depraved.

Yes this. Sickening case. She has waived her anonymity (not sure how to spell that!). She deserves whatever support she wants.

Too many men are like this. Either participating or complicit in their silence

SpangleSparkle · 23/12/2025 18:16

Ewww more twisted scummy men, hope they are all locked up for a long time

A police officer on a TV documentary about online child sexual abuse stated that if they arrested all the men who are engaging in it, there wouldn't be enough prison space in the whole country to house them all.

ArtichokesBloom · 23/12/2025 18:22

I'd be outside the court to show support if this was something she felt supported by. A quiet protest and show of solidarity

We could build more prisons. Doing so would employ people, so win-win.
