For those who prefer not to click on a DM link this article apparently refers to the withdrawal of a Christmas Card from Sainsbury. Apparently the phrase. “I identify as” is no longer available to be used unless you are a trans identifying person because using the phrase “ I identify as” in any other context other than declaring a trans identity invalidates the lived experience of trans people.

I used to identify as a woman with a sense of the ridiculous, but phew, now I know better.

Card is pulled after being identified as 'invalidating trans people'

The card depicted the Dr Seuss character, The Grinch, alongside the caption: 'This Christmas, I'm identifying as a Grinch.'

Does that mean if someone has one that it is now a collector’s item?

People really need to relearn the sentence 'I don't care' and just get on with their day.

Imagine if the listing was removed because it was reported

Helleofabore · 18/12/2025 10:25

That would make it even more of a collector's item Isekaied.

Nothing quite like the Streisand effect to make a card so sought after.

Shedmistress · 18/12/2025 10:32

I'd take it off the shelves, triple the price, post all over social media and then put one or two back on shelves and wait for it.

Toseland · 18/12/2025 12:22

A single complaint?!

Helleofabore · 18/12/2025 13:01

Maybe it was the polycule's complaint so it held more weight?

onlytherain · 18/12/2025 13:10

I am not sure what I find more ridiculous: the complaints or Sainsbury's response. You can identify as a ton of characteristics including, but not limited to, non/religious, belonging to countries/ cultures/ nationalities, dis/abled, neurodiverse, etc. The egocentricity really knows no limits - and neither does the cowardice.

FizzingAda · 18/12/2025 14:53

A case of Grinchphobia.

soupycustard · 18/12/2025 15:08

I'm a grinch, according to my entire family.
Why can a card not represent my identity and lived experience?!
I mean allegedly, for these whining blokes, their identity as women and their lived experience as trans is super important....like really, really, bigly important...But mine?

It's very tempting to continually "identify as" something mundane or vaguely amusing just to wind up the holier-than-thou TRA brigade Grin

So does this mean they recognize 'i identity as' as meaningless bollocks?
