= "Oh, please beg me to tell you what SD did to earn my opprobrium".

Ha ha. And if it doesn't come with a diagram we're not interested! 😆

@IdentifyingAsAWoollyMammoth I used to work for a v large company. My manager told me SD had once telephoned in and actually said, " do you know who I am?"

No,said my manager! 😂

This is EXACTLY what she was like and why she was very unpopular locally (unlike Derek Redmond who played for our rugby team and was a total gent).

She may speak very well in the Lords on women's rights though I hate the hypocrisy of Labour shoving yet more Peers in the second chamber when it should be abolished.

Derek Redmond who shagged around on his wife Sharron? That Derek Redmond?

worrisomeasset · 10/12/2025 22:49

I don’t give a shit about whether she’s ‘nice’ in real life or a bit of a diva. I know that on most issues her political views are very different to mine but again, I don’t care. I do care that at a time when very few people in sport dared to put their heads above the parapet when it came to defending fair sport for women, she did so and was vilified as a terf for doing so and had opportunities taken from her as a result. She has been an effective and knowledgeable advocate for keeping men out of women’s sport and I’m happy she’ll have another platform to talk sense about sport.

😂This is where I still miss the laugh reaction emoji.

LeftieRightsHoarder · 10/12/2025 23:13

Good news! Sharron deserves the honour, and women deserve to have her decent, sensible voice speaking up for us in the House of Lords.

Good point. She and Martina Navratilova really made people who hadn't thought much about it (ie men), sit up and listen.

And of course the transes abused them and tried to cancel them 🙄

So, well done Sharron!

TheaBrandt1 · 10/12/2025 23:23

She’s brave. Properly really brave. Stood up for what was right at cost to herself. You can’t not respect that.

Hear, hear.

Citrusbergamia · 11/12/2025 12:44

wonderful news!

IkaBaar · 11/12/2025 12:50

I used to be a competitive swimmer and I looked up to her then and now! Her campaigning for fair sport (for women but also about doping) is fantastic. She also speaks up about the scandal of infected blood products as her mother was infected and subsequently died.

FKAT · 11/12/2025 14:04

All the women who have ever done something worth doing have thousands of people who 'know' them lined up to complain about them not being nice or ladylike or neighbourly. If you haven't got a group of people willing to show up on the internet to say how you're such a cow in real life, then you're doing something wrong.

Ha ha, so right. "She didn't smile and simper like a laydee is supposed to!" 🙄

Mum4MrA · 11/12/2025 18:56

Wonderful news and very much deserved for her standing up for women. 🍾🍾

BlueLegume · 10/12/2025 18:21

Excellent news. I was a swimmer in the 70s and 80s and the injustice of Sharron competing against the Eastern Block swimmers really switched me onto injustice. She is also a massive voice of reason on many issues.

Absolutely. I remember it well. I didn't understand it all as a young girl, when it all came out about the cheating. It was just so unfair on Sharron.

This exactly. With some festive bells on

ThatBlackCat · 12/12/2025 05:09

This is wonderful news.

Strange that @IdentifyingAsAWoollyMammoth and @CiderandSprouts both joined around November, and each only have 35 and 37 posts to their name, and have only posted on this thread in FWR and no other thread in FWR only this one.

Yeah. Thought so. I call bullshit. They don't even try do they.

BlueLegume · 12/12/2025 08:27

@ThatBlackCat I suspect @IdentifyingAsAWoollyMammoth and @CiderandSprouts are linked to our old friend on this thread howesitgoin….. who seems to have taken a vacation.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/12/2025 08:29

He’s on another thread today, confidently being wrong about the SC judgment.

BlueLegume · 12/12/2025 08:30

@Ereshkigalangcleg well spotted!

TheaBrandt1 · 12/12/2025 08:33

Well am similar age and live locally to Sharron and in our demographic she is worshipped as a goddess so I call bullshit too.

Ha, I must admit I read that first post and thought "I didn't realise that Sharron Davies had been married to Mr Motivator", then I googled, different Derek.

(I'm not really into sport).

Floisme · 12/12/2025 08:46

Well I was all set to loudly cheer and marvel at what a brave and strong minded woman Sharron Davies must be, given that she could so easily have carried on taking the pundit money and keeping her mouth shut. But now I've read that an anonymous person on the internet says they knew her 25 years ago and didn't like her, and even worse, that someone else knows someone who once spoke to her .... well I guess I'll have to rethink everything.

(Edited for crimes against commas)

BezMills · 12/12/2025 16:48

As a fellow mediocre man, I'd love to have his confidence

SionnachRuadh · 12/12/2025 16:54

If Kemi does nothing else as LOTO, she's done something we can be grateful for.

(I also like her nominating Simon Heffer and John Redwood. Not that I don't have disagreements with them, but they're exactly the kind of people who should be in the Lords.)
