Brilliant! I'm not into that sort of thing but would rather these awards went to someone who has done such good for women and children (and sport) like Sharron than some other luvvie type.

Excellent news. I was a swimmer in the 70s and 80s and the injustice of Sharron competing against the Eastern Block swimmers really switched me onto injustice. She is also a massive voice of reason on many issues.

I lived near Ms Davies for many years when she was married to Derek Redmond. As I was always taught "if you can't say anything good about someone, say nothing" I shall leave it there.

so you don’t like her personally, so what? She’s being ennobled for her advocacy and for protecting women’s rights, particularly in sport. I don’t think the committee canvases the opinions of old neighbours but you could always write to them and let them know you don’t like her if you think it’s significant

Saw the thread title and thought, obviously, "how brilliant". Next thought, however, was to wonder how long it would be before someone came along to cast a few subtle (or not so subtle) bits of character assassination or just protestations of her general unfitness for the honour. Open the thread. Pleasantly surprised by first three posts, and start to think I am an evil cynic who should not be allowed to form any over generalised opinions about the obviously generous and fair minded individuals who nonetheless take issue with any gender critical viewpoints which may arise on this board. Post four. Oh well, as you were.
