One of those, please. In an insulated container, preferably.

My face may melt. I don't care.

lcedcakethereforeIam · 10/12/2025 16:00

Has anyone asked Balrog if she knows how to make these? Sounds right up her alley.

Igneococcus · 10/12/2025 16:01

My parents had one every year for Silvester (New Year's eve) unless they went to friends, tbf you need all the alcohol you can get to cope with German TV until midnight.

Is flaming Gluewein like a Feuerzangenbowle? With a sugar cone drenched in rum and set alight?

And rum schuss, yes.

Same procedure as last year, Miss Sophie?

Ach, too slow.

Just a reminder the Happy Birthday snug is available throughout December for those with birthdays this month. (NO Christmas decorations allowed)

Just placemarking for later - I'm doing parental taxi duties this evening so I'll be out and about in darkest Kent.
Thanks for the new thread Android!

FuzzyPuffling · 10/12/2025 16:50

Can Gesundheit do a crepe suzette for me please?

FuzzyPuffling · 10/12/2025 16:52

I do like the Birthday Snug ( with extra bunting). I hope it stays all year round. As a January birthday we need extra cheer to get past the "I'm sooo skint" moaners.

Well it's easier to spell, for one thing😄

I don't speak German, but I like what I know about how words are made up, resulting in v e r y l o n g words.

The resealable bags containing Lidl nuts used to have what I took to be German for 'resealable strip' or 'resealable bag' and as I remember, it was all one word, it occupied most of the width of the bag, and contained the element 'wieder' which I recognised from 'wiedersehen' so I reckoned it must mean 'again' or 're-'.

The spoilsports have it in English now, putting an end to my code-breaking.

Anybody got a German Lidl bag of nuts to hand?Grin

EdithStourton · 10/12/2025 17:00

I WANT ONE.
Please. Or a flaming gluhwein.

I've had a busy day and have just settled down after walking Brains and Batshit in the dusk - mind their feet, they might be a bit muddy.

Anyone fancy a mince pie?

Myrtle, I so hope that you feel better soon. Ir is rubbish being ill, and even more rubbish when you have important things to do.

It's my eldest niece's birthday today. She would love that. 😍

ErrolTheDragon · 10/12/2025 17:14

Ah, nice new place for Xmas.

I’m knackered. Today has included a brisk 5km walk while the weather was ok, fighting a French admin system (you don’t want to know) and helping DH replace one of the kitchen under counter lights. This entailed working out how to firmly attach the end of wire on the new lamp to the old one securely yet unbulkily enough to pull it up behind the cupboard to the junction box which is of course in the top of the cupboard. Then DH had to wire it in, in a confined awkward space; of course we’d turned the lighting circuits off so I had to provide illumination with a large torch. Which because of the positioning meant standing with it held in my fully extended arm - something like the Statue of Liberty - for a considerable length of time because he had to cut and strip the wires up there too.

then a retirement handover meeting - irl I’m on tea because I’ve another meeting soon but I’d love whatever the gerbils are making (i can light my own if necessary) , and a slice of a non-sentient copy of cake’s latest incarnation pleaseandthankyou.

None of my (many) bags of Lidl nuts is in German sadly.
It could have been "wiederverschließbare Tüte".

ifIwerenotanandroid · 10/12/2025 17:29

The gerbil H&S team are a bit worried about all these flaming drinks, so they've got the fire brigade on standby outside.

I think they just like men in uniform.

My evil plan has worked. rubs hands

Me to DH: Shall we just make a list of people to write cards to?... We'll need the address book... I'll find a nice pen for the list... Can we just check what cards we've got?... This one would be nice for your BIL...

... & now the poor sap is in the dining room, writing card after card MWAHAHA! This has never worked before. My best result previously was us doing equal numbers of cards each. Winner, winner, chicken dinner - which I will be making, so he's not too hard done by.

I've done my Christmas cards and posted them. DH has not done his.
Oh dear, how sad, never mind.

JanesLittleGirl · 10/12/2025 17:41

Can someone explain the logic behind a flaming drink to me please? All I can see is perfectly drinkable alcohol being burned to produce a rather tacky special effect.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 10/12/2025 17:42

I'm here for the rather tacky special effects.

The sugar melts and caramelises and drips into the mulled wine, also a lot of the rum ends up there too.

No, deffo not that, I'd have noticed the double S letter, and it was one word, I'm fairly sure...
If only I had archived an empty bag! If only Lidl had made a prior announcement about the anglicisation of their bags of nuts! Actually the rest of the info was in English, which made the word under the reseal strip even more intriguing..

Thank you for joining in my wordchase, Igneo, and I hereby absolve you of any requirement to continue further down this hugely unimportant linguistic pigeon-hole on my behalfSmile
That said, if you find yourself in the nut section of a Lidl in Germany.....Grin
