Mixed sex changing enables sexual predators to target girls and women

MrsOvertonsWindow · 09/12/2025 21:34

The Telegraph reporting what we all know. That the police data on mixed sex changing shows "at least 16 rapes, 80 sexual assaults and 65 acts of voyeurism were committed in sports centres in 2023, equating to three offences a week"

That's just the incidents in sports centres so presumably doesn't include all the stores, workplaces etc where women have mixed sex changing imposed on them.

Well done the Women's Rights Network for collating this. Worth noting that 10 police forces refused to supply data. Wonder why that might be?

My local swimming pool was refurbished to mixed sex, so I haven't gone back.

Which is the response of so many women isn't it?

Perfect timing WRN. Thank you x

MrsOvertonsWindow · 09/12/2025 22:08

Just shows how powerless women are in all this. Women and girls know and understand this yet mixed sex changing is pushed by so many of the lanyard classes (for others of course, not themselves).

Fucks sake! How many times do we have to tell them that mixed sex spaces where undressing occurs (toilets, changing rooms, shop dressing rooms, hostels, sleeper compartments on trains, homeless and domestic violence shelters, prisons, hospitals, mental health wards & residential rehab facilities, spas etc etc)
puts women & girls at risk before the people in charge of these facilities remember ‘oh yeah, that’s why we had separate sex facilities when these places were first built!’

Almost wonder if that was always the plan.

Is there any opportunity to give them feedback as to why?

We're all pestered for feedback and comments pretty much every time we use a service these days, but this is one occasion where I wouldn't mind giving it

Helleofabore · 09/12/2025 22:50

Thanks Mrs O. This is grim reading however, this is not unsurprising at all. In the past though we have news articles about mixed sex being unsafe, but I don’t think people really put much confidence in those. Maybe this will be listened to at last.

Well it is based on Police data so hopefully that will make a difference. Although 10 police forces unable / unwilling to respond. Can't help wondering what they've got to hide?

Judge Kemp could do with reading it.

My first thought too.

Over 800 plus comments under the article with lots pointing out the issues with the Fife judgment. Shows how people join up the dots when the press report issues openly.

Carla Lockhart in the HoC:

"Does the minister not agree that women would be more empowered in the workspace or on the sports field if their changing space or their toilets were not invaded by biological males?"

Who's the man behind her giving the dramatic eye roll?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 10/12/2025 13:24

Good for her. Presumably the eye roller's another male MP unbothered about safeguarding girls and women. Maybe he needs to be sent a copy of the WRN report

To put this in perspective 70,000 rapes are reported in the UK each year so 16 in three years is a miniscule proportion.

But they are 16 rapes that could have been prevented by having single sex changing rooms.

How many rapes in these spaces are acceptable to you before something should be done about it?

I was the victim of an incident in mixed sex changing rooms in a hotel's leisure facility. I alerted hotel staff and was told "Mr whatever his name was wouldn't do that". I then reported it to the police, who did nothing but smirk, I contacted the hotel again and asked for a refund as I wouldn't be returning. I could feel the vitriol as they metaphorically counted out the coppers to give me what they didn't want to.

I've just googled, they no longer have their leisure facility. I wonder if there were any other incidents, it certainly wasn't Mr whoever's first rodeo.

MelOfTheRoses · 10/12/2025 13:41

It rarely is.

You seriously wrote THAT.

I'm guessing you're not one of the 16, right? Or know someone who is?

Fucking hell.

Greyskybluesky · 10/12/2025 13:50

I never thought I'd see such blatant rape minimising on this board.

I'm honestly horrified.

Ok. Let me phrase it another way. What are we doing about the locations of those 70,000 other rapes because they matter as much.

I don't know, what are "we" doing?

Just stop digging.

Let's say I came up with a fairly straightforward plan that would prevent 1% of rapes. Would you say that the plan should not be implemented because it doesn't prevent all rapes?
