I would like to see the media referring to these people, as (for instance) "this is a 46 year old male who identifies as being a transwoman", because IMHO, there is no way they are identifying as a woman.

That's fair. I was thinking it was an improvement (and it is to an extent), but as you say even clearer language is needed.

He faked being cross eyed for his mugshot? Is that legal?

The Times did not refer to the abuser by any pronoun. They used his name, Natalie Wolf previously known as Ryan Haley at the time of the attack, and reported that (he) had been referred to as "she" during the court case, and that the victim had refused to do that and addressed him by name, as well as "he".

I thought that him referring to the jury as being "hypnotised" was wishful thinking, judging by that mugshot photo.

The abuser is said to have a personality disorder.

"Wolf, from Byker, Newcastle, has been held on remand in HMP Durham, a men’s prison, but was referred to with female pronouns during the proceedings."

I wonder if the court as well as the defence team used female pronouns? Presumably this trial took place after the change in guidance on pronouns.
