And Phillipson who sits on the Women and Equalities Committee as does Rebecca Paul, listened with Rebecca to the PM say the SCJ had to be implemented at all levels and that he would look into this.
And then sent her government lawyers to a court case a day or two later to say the SCJ needed watering down and case by case.
Apparently wholly unaware of the years of experience and legal discussions on record, that any layman can read and understand, that the SCJ actually talks about the impossibility of a) having a rule that applies to some men but not other men b) in any way making this practically applicable and c) that regardless of the worthiness of the man, bless his little and special cotton socks, the moment he walks into a facility he has ended it being a single sex space that meets the needs of all women . And defeated the purpose of it being a single sex space, and ended the logical reasons and effect of making it single sex in the first place to meet the needs of those women. Which pretty much ends the legal discrimination permitted to make it single sex.
Look, I can manage to understand it, IANAL, and am a layman with no relevant knowledge or experience. So wtf is there apparently no one in Westminster who has read this stuff and managed the basic reading comprehension involved? Do they need to borrow a few MNetters to explain it in small words, because I'm sure there's a few mums here who wouldn't mind helping government with their homework?
And wtf is one woman on this government committee fighting for women's needed single sex rights to not be subordinated to men's self expression while another fights to get on with the subordinating?
And wtf does the PM apparently not agree with his cabinet minister so they're briefing against each other and seemingly pursuing two separate goals at the same time?
It would be less depressing if this wasn't an example of the whole bloody governmental and political mess in progress in all areas at the moment, but it is. It absolutely all.
