Well done to MBM.

'Jo Farrell set out the force’s stance during an evidence session in front of the petitions committee this morning, speaking about a petition created by the founders of policy group Murray Blackburn Mackenzie (MBM), which has been under consideration since July 2021 and seeks to accurately record the sex of people charged or convicted of rape or attempted rape. PS also plan to engage with Scottish Police SEEN. More good news.

This feels like significant news and yet... astonishing that it's so astonishing!

MelOfTheRoses · 12/11/2025 14:32

It is stating the obvious, but a return to reality will be welcome.

ArabellaSaurus · 12/11/2025 14:33

IKR?

I look forward to the Foresty Commission confirming that bears do, indeed, shit in the woods.

This is great news but am I the only one thinking FFS surely all crimes should be recorded accurately re sex.
What's the point of data if it's inaccurate.
But anyway, progress....

teawamutu · 12/11/2025 15:06

About fucking time.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/11/2025 15:10

Good news, and yes, the objections will be revealing.

Yes. What about crimes that aren't rape? Indecent exposure, domestic violence, murder, accessing child abuse images, even stuff like shoplifting, it should all be recorded accurately.

MrsTerryPratchett · 12/11/2025 15:17

For some reason song lyrics popped into my head, "back to life, back to reality".

No idea why...

My thoughts exactly. Corrupted data is useless and allocating crimes committed by males to females whatever the crime may be does exactly that.

I would go further and state that trans identity should also be recorded in addition to sex where it is claimed.

Let's have accurate recording and a clear breakdown of crimes and those who commit them.

. . . a petition created by the founders of policy group Murray Blackburn Mackenzie (MBM), which has been under consideration since July 2021 and seeks to accurately record the sex of people charged or convicted of rape or attempted rape . . .

More than four years

PastaAllaNorma · 12/11/2025 15:55

MBM have been such stalwarts 💐

lechiffre55 · 12/11/2025 16:27

Copying my post from the other thread.

I'd like to cheer, but it starts "A Man who....."
I cannot but feel that this will be a qualifier, as in anyone who identifies as a woman won't be counted. The language has been so butchered I find it difficult not to look for the traps.

If it's true, I cheer this as great news, but I cannot help but be suspicious after all the language bending.

This.

"Massive increase in domestic violence by women" as a headline, might lose the impact if it's found that the data integrity is somewhat flawed - and that's a possible outcome of inaccurately recording sex.

If you want to record if someone is trans or not in addition to sex, then crack on. Somehow we don't get much support for trans visibility if we suggest this.

tobee · 12/11/2025 17:36

Great news!

But, blimey, it's all such a slog isn't it?

But onwards!

lcakethereforeIam · 12/11/2025 17:52

Further to my 15.11 post upthread, I think MBM are utterly fantastic. I'm worried I may have given the impression that I thought they hadn't done enough. If I'm disappointed in anyone it's the Police. This really shouldn't be necessary.

To be fair, probably not in any of the woods within the remit of the Forestry Commission...

I imagine that this is the thin edge of the wedge. In recognising that both biological sex [and gender identity if arising] can and should be recorded in rape cases, the question arises as to why this isn’t done with all crimes.
