Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Your Corbyn/Sultana Party - Discussion thread - Part 2

The YP starting conference is in the ACC in Liverpool between 29-30 November so only three weeks off. With competing factions involving Islamic conservatives, every variety of Marxist/Communist, former Labour members, trade union activists, entryists from SWP and SPEW, splitters from the Scottish Greens, trans activists and actual left wing feminists [not the nice kind] it is difficult to underplay how much controversy there is likely to be. So we will need a second thread in advance.

Thus far following the internal drama of the UKs newest left party has taken a whole thread. It has been a wild ride and the party still does not have a name.

Is she just randomly saying stuff now for attention? Does she mean she wants state owned factories churning out food? Would they be able to import ingredients or will we have to turn the entire country into factories and farmland? What kind of food? Will we have a choice or will it be like rationing in WWII? We could go back to the days of the National loaf! It will save the NHS a fortune I suppose if McDonalds and KFC isn't allowed to trade!

Or maybe she looked at Rachel Reeves' farm tax and said "the trouble with this government is, it isn't liquidating the kulaks fast enough"

Maybe they should have called the party 'The Great Leap Forward' or 'Kolkhoz'. What could possibly go wrong?

JanesLittleGirl · 29/11/2025 12:50

I can't wait for JezBurgers. A Whopper meal will cost £20, will take at least an hour to cook and will be missing at least one essential ingredient because of "shortages".

Lalgarh · 29/11/2025 12:50

He (like most civilized people) wants the economy and state to work in such a way that food banks don't exist because they're not needed.

A while back there was a woman on a phone in who said she'd vote Boris because "there's loads of food banks now and a couple of years ago (under Labour) there weren't any".

So whilst you and most ppl might think food banks and initiatives to sate hunger are an obscenity, unfortunately there's a lot of other people who don't quite understand it like that. I remember back in the 80s they were pointing to the massive waste in the food industry with unsold products going to landfill whilst still in date, and how food banks developed as a way of distribution of that. I think with donation points in most supermarkets now these aren't going to go away.

Unless they are going to go for widespread factory farming of beef cattle and chickens, £20 would be a bargain! More like £50! Unless they go pure vegan- so potato and carrot burgers all round. Yum!

RainbowBagels · 29/11/2025 15:06

Sultana has refused to attend the conference today in protest at the SWP members being expelled! What is she on? Is she actually an idiot?

Lalgarh · 29/11/2025 15:08

Is she a useful idiot is probably what the trot suitors courting her are asking

https://nitter.net/PolitlcsUK/status/1994770204031946775#m

She's still got that 850k of members subs.

Someone needs to check if she's put down a deposit on a campervan

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/11/2025 15:17

Absolute scenes.

SionnachRuadh · 29/11/2025 15:31

This is exactly what it would have been like if Corbyn had become PM.

RainbowBagels · 29/11/2025 15:31

Is Sultana trying to spin that the SWP and whichever random Communist Parties, who have been around for decades are actually the future of progressive politics?
I mean I shouldn't laugh at the thought of Jeremy Corbyn's face after being called Right wing but he was a massive disruptive PITA during his 40 years in the Labour Party when he should probably have been in SWP or one of the other millions of Socialist parties . Maybe Sultana is his punishment!

SionnachRuadh · 29/11/2025 15:33

The SWP in one form or another has been around for 75 years. Zarah might like to ask what it's ever achieved other than Rock Against Racism, which was a good thing but happened almost 20 years before she was born.

Yes all his supporters blaming everyone else for plotting against him can't blame anyone else now. Admittedly people were plotting against him but probably because they knew what an utter disaster he is? Many of the people who opposed him in Labour knew him and had to work with him.

Corbyn, just because of his personality, is not a man who is capable of leading from the front. He dithers, he hates confrontation, he doesn't do detail. Corbyn as leader only works if he's a kind of constitutional monarch who's there to guard the party's values, and you've got people like John McDonnell or Karie Murphy or Seumas Milne who can actually do the detailed stuff.

He'd have been a terrible PM for the same reason Boris was a terrible PM. Boris actually wasn't a bad mayor, because he had a good team doing the boring stuff while he did the salesmanship that he excels at. But if you're PM there are lots of things you just can't delegate. At least 80% of the job is really boring bureacratic stuff which I don't see Corbyn having the attention span to handle.

Sultana is an odd case because she's a 2019 intake MP, she's not a veteran Corbynite, she didn't have much of a relationship with him or any of his core team. Everyone seems to have thought, Corbyn is pushing 80 and we'll need a co-leader or deputy who's a plausible successor and hopefully one who isn't an old white man. Sultana ticked all those boxes, but they didn't listen to people who knew her from the NUS and could have told them what she's like.

SionnachRuadh · 29/11/2025 16:35

Paul Holborow not Holbrooke, but otherwise broadly correct. Paul used to run the Anti-Nazi League, which makes him a big cheese in SWP world.

Lewis wasn't a big player in the 2013 events - he must have been in his teens then - but his name will appear on lists of supporters of the SWP leadership during the split.

Seems the comrades have dealt with their gerontocracy problem by just promoting the children of party bigwigs.

Dont JC's sons have jobs in his office? I'm sure they were coincidentally selected after an interview process!

Politics Home interviews Ayoub Khan, and it turns out he's got just the anecdote to divert readers' attention from the shambolic conference.

SionnachRuadh · 29/11/2025 17:38

I'm not sure how the dog-loving British public will react to that story, but to be fair to Ayoub, he used to be a Liberal Democrat, a party which has a colourful history with dogs.

I was just coming here to post that.

Lol that is a very funny review! As an aside, I haven't read the Indy for a while. Is it still quite leftist? I read it got bought by the Mailgroup.

ALERT

We interrupt this discussion to bring footage of Eryn Browning on stage at the conference an actual sex pest man in a dress who left the Scottish Greens as a council candidate because he got caught harassing teenage girls . {Those who follow the Scottish Greens thread may remember him I repeat he was so BAD even the Scottish Greens could not put up with him. Always a sign of a real problem.]

The thing that never happens has happened again.

Footage of Browning criticising the two Muslim MPs who knew biology was a thing and then being stopped for derailing conference.

“When this party started, it included two MPs who were openly transphobic.”

What about obvious nonces being in the party? How about that as an issue? Rather bigger than people being Muslim.

Please spread this news.

Another detailed article from Sienna Rodgers who has been great at following YP:

“End The Witch-hunt”: The First 24 Hours At The Chaotic ‘Your Party’
Sienna Rodgers

Corbyn is now being accused explicitly by allies of Sultana – and implicitly by Sultana herself – of overseeing a “witch-hunt”, in an echo of the fights over antisemitism that took place within the Labour Party when he was leader.

Responding to the claims on Saturday, Corbyn said: “I’m not running a witch-hunt against anybody. That is a fairly absurd thing to say. All we’ve said is you cannot be a member of two parties at the same time – that’s all.”...

Day two kicked off with a speech from Corbyn, who urged everyone to “be respectful of each other”. Members told PoliticsHome they thought the applause in the hall was muted when the co-founder took to the stage, considering his status on the left, and that this indicated members present were more supportive of Sultana.

The news later emerged that James Giles – an Independent councillor close to Sultana, who requested a pass for him as part of her team – had been barred from entering the conference.

Sources said a message sent to Sultana informed her that “James Giles will not be granted permission to attend Your Party Conference due to a private matter related to an ongoing investigation by the ICO”.

“I have never been contacted by the ICO about this or any other matter,” Giles told PoliticsHome. Asked who he believed made the decision, he replied: “Karie Murphy”. Murphy, the former chief of staff to Corbyn, who is attending the YP conference as a key organiser of it, did not respond to a request for comment in time for publication.

Asked what he thought Corbyn’s role was in the decision, Giles said: “I don’t think he has one. I think Jeremy is a decent, honest man who wants to build an inclusive, democratic, grassroots movement.”

“Regardless of whether you're team Corbyn or team Sultana – not that there should be a team Corbyn or team Sultana – I think all sides can agree that this has been a bit of a mess and we need to put an end to this psychodrama,” he added, also calling for “an end to this nonsense witch-hunt”.

Sultana has decided not to attend the conference on Saturday, “in solidarity with excluded members, including James Giles”, a source close to her confirmed. PoliticsHome understands that Sultana is still looking forward to delivering her speech on Sunday and is participating in online voting...

YP sources said many members are enjoying the conference and highlighted that a spirited debate was held today about the nature of the party being built, including whether it should be explicitly "socialist" or "working-class".

During the debate, one member suggested YP should work with Farage if there were issues on which they could work together. They were booed by other members.

ItsCoolForCats · 29/11/2025 20:11

I saw the clip of his speech on X and I knew I recognised him from somewhere. What a wrong un. Is Your Party going to be a home for all the people who are too much, even for the Greens? I wonder if Sophie Molly will join 🤔

And the trans liberation army, or whatever they're called, that ZS gleefully endorsed, don't seem like a pleasant bunch either.
