The YP starting conference is in the ACC in Liverpool between 29-30 November so only three weeks off. With competing factions involving Islamic conservatives, every variety of Marxist/Communist, former Labour members, trade union activists, entryists from SWP and SPEW, splitters from the Scottish Greens, trans activists and actual left wing feminists [not the nice kind] it is difficult to underplay how much controversy there is likely to be. So we will need a second thread in advance.

Thus far following the internal drama of the UKs newest left party has taken a whole thread. It has been a wild ride and the party still does not have a name.

5pillars the hardline British Muslim news site interviewed Corbyn at conference the results were interesting to say the least:;

The Times review has a picture from the conference of the delegates. It looks like a pensioners day out! Almost all of them are White and over 70 I would say. Doesnt bode well for Sultana. They all look like Jezza fans. It also looks like, from the stickers that they are going to vote for 'for the many' as the party name! Surely the worst of a bad choice but also associated quite strongly with JezzatiArticle

Agree.. though while most people of any class would agree with him on trans, I suspect his other socially conservative views might be somewhat stricter than the average working class Brit. Most wouldn't agree with cousin marriage to preserve clan ties, for one...

Yes I completely agree. He sounds sensible in what he says but there is still, I believe a teacher from his constituency in hiding as a result of him showing a cartoon of the Prophet Mohammed. But these are the people Jeremy Corbyn chose to become involved with because of his tunnel visioned obsession with Palestine. He decided to overlook their other problematic views, including cousin marriage etc as did Sultana, until she came up against the trans issue and was suddenly shocked that they thought this way, despite herself being Muslim and from the very community that has the most problematic background with regards to cousin marriage,honour killings, clan ties etc.

There is a reasonably successful model of collective food production, but given it's the Kibbutzim I doubt she'd be willing to look into it further.

Sultana did address a fringe Muslim event this evening. Not sure if the other Muslim Gaza independents or 5 pillocks was there

Good point about Sultana being Mirpuri...Shabana Mahmood's family are a good example of Mirpuris standing up to this, but Sultana probably never will.

I've long suspected that Corbyn doesn't give a toss about womens rights or women in general and would toss Zarah Sultana or any other woman under the bus for a man who agrees with him about Gaza but anything else doesn't come into it

Yes, while I'm critical of Likud, I'm fed up with the wholesale demonisation of Zionism and Israel. Early Israel and the kibbutz system had some terrible failings (collective childraising worked no better than it ever has, and many children suffered abuse) but also important insights. It was commendably forward-thinking re women too.

I wonder what Corbyn makes of it all. Sultana, by contrast, doesn’t do ambiguity. Or friends, apparently. At lunchtime she gathers that hated press on the threshold of the conference centre, announces a boycott of the first day, and rails against a “purge” of Socialist Workers Party members.
With studied intent, she turns towards the entrance, then turns back — storming off to nowhere in particular. Nearby, a banner invites activists to “build the party Starmer will hate”. Not as easy as it looks. Instead they’ve built one that hates itself.

Interestingly if you search the general coverage focuses on arguments over money, the SWP, Corbyn/Sultana, Palestine, but no mention of the question which triggered a huge part of the division in the party.

There is mention of a sexist boy's club. Yet what DOES that mean? It would seem there is biological sex some of the time, but not all of the time.
